Hi Kirk, I wonder if I can ask you for some help. The flagstone cladding in the lower wall of my house has come off. The flagstones are attached to a board that covers the length of the wall. The board is still in one piece and all the flagstones attached to it are intact. I called a contractor and he told me the solution is to stucco the wall instead of reattaching the board. I didn’t go with his idea because I want to maintain the flagstone cladding look throughout the exterior of the house. What can I do to reattach the flagstone cladding back to the wall? I can send you a photo of the wall if you send me your email address. I would be so grateful for your advice. Thank you.
Greetings Ann, buy a tube of Sikaflex Polyuathan caulking, this caulking is an adhesive and sealer, caulk these area's then push back into place.
Or you can you grout or Poly bond.😏
My friend's brick wall was hit by a car, I used one tube of Sikaflex adhesive caulking and put chunks of 6 to 10 back together in about 15 minutes, to this day 15 years later, still standing and kid walking on top of it. There are caulking with fancy and pretty names that claim to adhere many things together, they don't work. I won't mention names as this is a positive channel.🤔
So either order a tube or two of Sikaflex polyurethane caulking online or go the grouting method.
The man who said to skimcoat the entire wall is a fool.

Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. Kirk, you can’t imagine how overjoyed I am to hear from you. I found a local supplier who sells Sikaflex caulking you recommended. But just one thing, will the caulking be strong enough to hold the entire board + the attached flagstones against the concrete foundation wall? The board runs across the entire width of the house. Should I use extra fortification such as bolts or fasteners to guarantee it will hold? Just wondering. You are the master so I will listen. Thank you and thank you very much again! 🙂

I would recommend, absolutely to attach the panel to the wall, also.
There are many ways to attach a board to a wall such as lag bolts.

Evening LSE, its the smoothest finish that can be applied plus its an acrylic, which means it will flex when the home moves. Less likely to hairline crack. The best thing about this material is it's maintenance free if applied to a complete home.

Kirk! I love your videos! I just bought a house and I’m trying to smooth out the front. It’s a painted cinderblock house with real brick accents around the windows. The brick is not pretty, it’s rocky. How can I smooth out the house so it’s all flushed?

Learning a lot from your videos Sir. Need your advise please. So they are making a home for my family and I and they are applying acrylic stucco. They have used tyvec, insulation foam and sealed the windows properly but today I went to inspect it and they put a foam sealant underneath between the osb and insulation. Does that sound right? I live in south Texas where it gets hot, and humid. It also rains from time to time. I’m afraid the home won’t be able to breathe some it doesn’t have the GAp in between either. Should I be worried?

Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. thank you. I’ve been doing lots of research and learned he is not doing the efis where water drains. He’s using senergy level 1 stucco system. I was just a bit worried cuz it has sealant underneath and no drain plate at all. Seals around windows and everything else looks good. Thanks for you help sir. Peace
ive got a house next week that is smooth finish that i am going to repair its got cracks all over i dont want to use polyurethane caulks because ive heard acrylics wont bond to them any suggestions on using a cementitious or an acrylic?what to pre fill the half inch deep cracks before finish?Thanks Guys!!!
Evening Deekoh, Big stretch caulking has no sand and can be trowel on, all polyurethanes are difficult to blend in plus are hared to clean up.
You can also use Mor-Flexx caulking, it does have sand but with care can be applied and trowel with little sand showing.

I love your videos. I want to change the exterior color, and since i also need repairs done i was thinking about just adding a new topcoat to my old stucco. Do you have any suggestions? It looks like my old stucco is a medium or rough sand with a knock down sort of finish. Im sure uve probably already done a video about it- can u point me to it? Thanks

If your stucco is in decent condition, probably easiest way to change color is to paint. I delayed painting my stucco over misplaced concerns that paint would bubble or peel if moisture got behind it - but typical acrylic house paint is vapor permeable and breathes so it's not a problem (do not use elastomeric paint or it will bubble since it's not vapor permeable). Had a heavy sand lace-type finish that required a lot of primer (colored a few shades lighter than the finish coat for ease of quality control to ensure full coverage). Paint looks great and it was 1/10th the cost of what a new stucco topcoat. Color coat stucco is indeed 'lifetime' but color tastes change and stucco fades over time, so in reality, it's unlikely original color choices will last a lifetime.

I am writing to you for some advice after watching hours of your really useful TH-cam videos! I live in McAllen, TX (on the Mexican border about 60 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico). Since we are well outside of your business area, I feel like asking for some advice is ok as I don't think that I would be a client due to geographical inconvenience!
I am an avid DIY'er and am building a block wall for a patio in the front of our house. I will be stuccoing the wall once constructed. Thanks to your videos that helped fuel some other stucco projects around the house, I feel confident with this process.
My question is about the house itself. The home is a brick veneer structure from the late 60's. The brick has a "tumbled painted" finish on it and is structurally sound. For aesthetics, I want to stucco over the brick but because of the paint am unsure if the stucco will adhere properly. I have considered sand blasting, the application of a bonding agent, or the use of metal mesh.
If you have a moment for a quick response I would me most appreciative.

Evening Dave if it were me, I pressure wash then paint on a bonding agent and skim coat.
The idea is to get the wall as clean as possible so that the bonding agent adheres well. Then plaster away.

I'm trying to do a blend repair for the stucco around the door before I replace the trim, guy at HD says oil based n water based stucco spray won't mix, any suggestions on how to blend it so I can make it look like a decent repair
Good evening Michael, I've not heard of oil or water-based stucco spray.
Do you mean paint?
If so paint won't hide a texture, contrary it will enhance the obvious, that does not match.
You need to skim the stucco so that it matches the existing finish. Without seeing what you have to match I can't offer more advice.

@@StuccoPlastering thanks for the reply, I sent a photo on Twitter to you in hopes that your vast wisdom would help my inexperience. I'm going to place a piece of wood trimming above a door and the stucco only goes back so far, I have a test spot drying of Ready Patch, not sure if that's a good choice, but if I place the trim up you can see a section that is not stucco textured and doesn't blend or match, so I'm looking for the right product to do a hand stucco repair around the trim area of the door
Hi Kirk. This could be exactly what I'm looking for. The current beige stucco of my cinderblock wall is very sandy or coarse, and I want this white smooth stucco look. In another video (Preparing walls for chalkboard paint), you suggested that "Buy Hansons Lehigh White cement plaster. Now you would have to also go to Home Depot to buy white sand.
You mix three times the sand to every one part white cement plaster, then apply and trowel smooth." How is this technique different from this one here with IMAGE SMOOTH? Is this already premixed with sand and it comes in a bucket like in this video and all I have to do is to apply it over my current stucco wall? I'm attempting to do DIY white smooth stucco finish for my cinderblock wall, and if this method is easier with no mixing involved and would yield a white smooth stucco finish then it's exactly what I am looking for. Thank you so much!
Greetings Kevin, you buy La Habras, "Image smooth finish," already mixed and in buckets, plus its acrylic, adheres to most finishes.
The portland white stucco, when the sand is added, may not adhere to many substrates and or may need a bonding agent, plus depending on the sand will change the color and texture.

I have used One Pass
by Rapid Set. It goes on smooth exterior / exterior . Sets in 20 min. It can go 1 inch thick in two coats. Let me know if you tried it. Powder form. Thanks be safe .

When looking for a steel trowel smooth finish, why cant the final color finish be an Eisenwall stucco product ? Or the Lahabra Base200 with "30/30" sand as you call it for smooth? I'm looking to DIY this, and have the time to do it slowly and use a large tray or wheelbarrow to mix in, but would rather have a premixed product I can just add water to. With Eisenwall, I can just do a steel trowel "closed" (not breathing as you say) trowel finish for the areas I busted and re-stucco-ed using Eisnewall, and then do 1 coat WeldCrete for the painted areas and 3-4 coats Weldcrete for the raw Eisnewall stucco areas...Then cover that with Eisenwall as a smooth finish to match it up...Yes, no, or how would you recommend going about it? Yes I wouldn't mind and may like the natural cement like trowel color marks...sort of like Roman Clay or Venitian plaster looking diffrences(not the smoothness or color, but that change in the way it colors when you trowel over. If that makes sense.
Good Afternoon Phil, if your applying, say Eisenwall or rapid set stucco over wire netting, no booking agent is necessary. You can steel trowel it, a big deal if it hairline cracks as most quality primers and paints flood these hairline cracks. As Eisenenwall is light in color and sand is tan, you will have a light tan color.😉

Hi Kirk, I have had a few contractors come out and look at my 1939 home that needs to be sandblasted badly. I told 1 contractor that I want Santa Barbra Smooth on my home and he said its my choice but the Santa Barbra Smooth cracks easily and shows. What are your thoughts on that.
Good evening Susan, He's correct as even though it requires two coats the finish coat plaster is super thin 30/30 sand is the finest sand sold.

@@StuccoPlastering I live in Los Angeles, California, 90041. It's a long 4' height stucco exterior wall I'm trying to remodel, I watched many of your videos, My dad and I tried a few materials like La Habra Santa Barbara but it didn't give me the fine finish I am looking for, then I tried Wunderfixx which is pretty smooth and easy to work with but it comes only in gray - I like white fine, smooth modern finish- and also about that, I doubted if it's a good fit for exterior wall. The color pack didn't help much, We tried V/O repair Mix with CTS Cement and still is not white and when we added color some small cracked appeared, So Please advise what material you recommend we use, I contacted Image smooth since they are in CA but hasn't heard back if that's the case please tell me where to provide. Also, if you happen to know an expert here in the area I like to have someone do it this time for us. It's been a few quotes and it's ready for a final one. I wish I could of send you some pictures.
Good evening Ela, no worries, I will give you many options as one of these acrylic stucco's will be sold in your area,
First, Google, "plastering yards near me."🤓
Then ask if they sell either, Dry-vit, La Habra, Western, Carsons, stucco-flex, or BMI, acrylic finish coatings, tell them you want crystal white or similar.
There are more stucco manufacturers available but I like these companies, then ask for a 30/30 sand finish.
This is the finest sand for acrylic or cementitious finish coats made.
As far as choosing your contractor to apply, Use your gut instinct as to the right person for the task. I realize cost matters so check references also. Best wishes,

Don’t the people where you live believe in sealant joints, butting tight to Windows is a big no no, if I did a job like that, I would never get paid and yes sealant joints and expansion joints are mandatory in stucco, if they did not put them in I would not repair the job.
Greetings Ron, this was a repair from one contractor to another.
It was an easy repair, so easy I did it for free to sort of bridge any pointing the finger at others as finger-pointing usually creates more frustration than the fix requires. My reward is on its way if not already here, it's sharing one blessing with others.
