    Like soknik, you have to learn how to get used to rotary engine turning and also the dr1 has a lot of tail weight which adds to the learning curve. You will have to be patient flying the dr1. but its great once you get it.

    The german pistols have insanely high muzzle velocity compared to the other weapons in the game. At close to medium range, you don't even have to lead your target. Fun pistols for sure!

    very nice u demonstrate very well the lethal effectiveness of the fokker triplane, u should try a flat halfspin you look like you have a lot of skill so kick go very slow in the plane than kick in full rudder and as soon as u turn around put in full throttle and climb for a brief second than run the engine on 2 cylinders immediately to let u go into a steep dive then put in full throttle again for speed than climb after 5 seconds its so fun. please get rid of the mods its just not realistic i use the planes surroundings to help me aim

      Track IR

    • @Soknik01
      @Soknik01  9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I use a free version of the device BrooneyGloomer is speaking about. Its called FreeTrack. The software can be downloaded from their official site at no cost to you. As far as the hardware goes I removed the IR filter from a used PS3 eye cam (bought used for $9 US) and then placed a piece of an old floppy disk over the lens after cutting it down to size. This blocks out all visible light from the camera but lets IR light through with little resistance. Then I picked up a few inexpensive IR LED bulbs from radio shack and wired them up to a USB cable along with a resistor to make sure they got the proper amount of power. It is impossible to tell when the IR LED lights are on with the naked eye since they only emit Infrared light but by placing them in the view of the PS3 camera and using the FreeTrack software you can immediately tell when they are on because the view screen in the software will be completely back with the exception of 3 bright red points of light. At this stage the lights get mounted to a set of headphones, one on top and one on each side above the ear. Then you just tell the software the relative distance of the lights in relation to each other and it can then tell where you are looking based on how the lights move inside the view of the camera. Of course it would be impractical to have to turn your head a full 90 degrees in real life just to turn that same distance in game because you would no longer be looking towards your computer screen. To remedy this issue, the software allows you to adjust the sensitivity of each axis of movement so that you are able to simply point your face slightly off center in order to achieve the in game amount of movement you desire. Takes a little adjusting to accomplish but its certainly well worth the effort to get the results you see here. There are full instructions on how to build a FreeTrack system posted on their website. If you choose to make an effort to build one yourself feel free to let me know and ill be happy to give you specifics on exactly how i went about building and setting mine up. Thanks for watching!

    • @RSpraitz
      @RSpraitz 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Soknik01 WOW....who on earth could come up with such an imaginative home remedy like this?? You guys are tech geniuses way out of my league. However, I do thank you for explaining the apparently effortless tracking used in the video. I now have a greater appreciation for how much effort some players go into for the game. Happy contrails and Tx amigo!

    • @Soknik01
      @Soknik01  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Robert Spraitz I know how it must sound when i describe putting the hardware for FreeTrack together but it truly is far simpler than you are likely imagining it to be. As a matter of fact i can say with absolute certainty that learning to use a web browser is a far more complex and involved affair than building the FreeTrack setup once you are able to see some instructions on the process. The camera modification involves popping open the shell to the unit, prying off one filter and slapping another in its place before putting the shell back on. The wiring for the IR lighting just requires you to find any old unused usb device, stripping away the insulation on the end farthest from the plug and connecting 2 of the 5 internal wires to the LED lights in a series. Positive wire on the usb to negative contact on the first LED, then connecting a wire from the positive side of that same LED to the negative side of the next one and then the other. If you do find yourself even remotely interested i can send you info on where you could grab each part and also provide you with diagrams of the process so that you can get a better sense of whats involved. Dont hesitate to drop me a line if curiosity gets the best of you. I can tell you that after having experienced it myself, i can not even imagine flying without it. As a matter of fact, i dont think i'd want to. It is so natural to move your head a bit to look around compared to the multitasking and extra coordination required to manipulate the hat switch and reorient your brain as it jars your view from one angle to the next. I suppose i ought to mention that it tracks your movement not only up, down, left and right but also can tell when you are leaning forward, to either side (to peer over the edge of the plane downwards), sitting up higher to look below your nose or even when you slump down in your seat to avoid gunfire from the rear or a nasty cracked skull from nosing over when a Dolphin landing goes sour on you. Its just too much fun bud. I'd say that the enhancement it brings to the experience is on par with how much better a joystick and pedals feels when compared to trying to fly a plane with a keyboard and mouse.

      If you go to the rise of flight website you can find a huge collection of additional historical skins which you can download. Also, every year ROF pilots can submit skins they have created so they may be downloaded and used in online multiplayer. Have a look on the website- Some really excellent skins are available.

    • @Soknik01
      @Soknik01  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michal Jurkiewicz I use a joystick and rudder pedals.

    • @Michael5254able
      @Michael5254able 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you know really good program to calibrate joysticks or gamepads? Do you have one? I have a problem with this. System program in win 7 to calibrate is so bad.

    • @Soknik01
      @Soknik01  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is your joystick not detecting its center properly? Im trying to determine what problem you're having so I can offer you the most relevant advice possible.

    • @Michael5254able
      @Michael5254able 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joystick is dectected properly, don't worry about this, but when I move it very slowly its moves "aren't seen" by system win 7calibration program enough properly and this worry me a lot. Also I add that my joystick isn't damaged.

    • @Soknik01
      @Soknik01  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michal Jurkiewicz OK, for now don't worry about the windows calibration tool not properly showing your joystick output. The important thing is that ROF is getting the right signal from you. Open ROF and get into the game with your plane on the ground. Once you are there, open your options menu and click the tab at the top that says "Responses". You should now see a graph on the right that will show you one of your joystick axis. Move your stick and check this graph to see that the game is properly detecting the tiny movements your stick makes.
      Just to the left of the graph you will see a section where you can change which joystick axis you wish to view on the graph. Check each one and make sure the game detects your joysticks small movements. If there is no problem detecting joystick movement properly in the game, then you don't need to be worried about the windows calibration tool not working properly.
      Let me know how this test went for you. If all is well I'll explain some amazing things you can do in the "Responses" section of the options that will make flying your planes quite a bit easier.
      Hope this helps bud. If there's an issue, don't worry- we'll figure it out! :)

    This is awesome- where can the camera shake mod be found and will it still work with track ir running?

    • @Soknik01
      @Soknik01  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The camera shake is a video effect I added in production using Adobe aftereffects. I wish there were a mod that would accurately simulate the shaking a pilot would experience when firing two fully automatic machine guns hard mounted to a wood framed aircraft. My guess is that skilled modders have tried to make it work but limitations in the game engine kept it from being a viable option.

    Yet another German lover...

    • @Soknik01
      @Soknik01  10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Let me get this straight... You see someone doing something and this leads you to assume that is all they do or that they must not love something else just as much? Perhaps you find yourself so limited in your capacity to appreciate a wide variety of things that every choice that you encounter leaves you feeling the urge to strongly align yourself with one of two sides and show contempt for those who appear to you to have taken an option that differs from what you have deemed correct. This type of black and white thinking is known as a cognitive distortion and can lead one to forming a twisted view of reality that more often that not leads one to unknowingly bait themselves and others into completely needless and pointless conflict. Rather than reply to your antagonistic comment with hostile words of my own I'm simply going to enlighten you to the truth of the matter as I understand it.
      I love to fly German planes, yes-
      I also fly Entente planes and I adore them equally as much.
      My favorite planes to pilot could never be ranked on a list that forced me to place them in order of first to last as they all offer an experience so different from one another and uniquely gratifying in their own right that it would be a little bit like trying to get a parent to choose which one of their children they love the most.
      To me, there is no best or worst or right or wrong- There are however certain planes that i find most enjoyable to fly and the list is as follows-
      S.E.5a, Fokker DR.I, Spad VIIs and XIII, Airco D.H.4, all the Bristols, Fokker D.VIII, DFW C.V and the Brandenburg W12.
      In this video as well as a few of my others I happen to be flying the lovely DR.I against the AI and having a damn good time doing it. In online games you will always find me on the team with the disadvantage and flying whatever plane performs the role or completes the objective that nobody else wants to do. More often than not this means a long slow climb to 3k meters in a Halby that climbs like an asthmatic trying to drag a 100lb sack of rocks to the top of Mt Everest, which if I am being honest is probably my least favorite task to perform. Aside from the DR.I which in my opinion is an even match for its allied equivalent, the Camel, nearly every single German plane has an Entente counterpart that is capable of outperforming it on a level playing field with a pilot of equal skill. That said, If I were a "German lover" it would only imply that I am partial to the disadvantaged role of the underdog. If this were the case, that would be perfectly fine in my opinion, however, it's not-
      I positively- adore ROF and I've found that if I hop in a plane that absolutely does not appeal to me, if given a fair amount of time to fly it and recognize its strengths and weaknesses the outcome has without fail always been the exact same.
      I come to have an immense respect for the aircraft, the men who flew them to either victory or defeat. I'm extremely grateful for having been afforded the opportunity to fly along side the many friends ROF has given me from all corners of the globe. Nearly 100 years after the events that brought these warplanes into existence and resulted in such a catastrophic loss of life along with a bitter hatred shared by the people of opposing nations, something unthinkable has come to pass. Virtual pilots from the nations that were once at war are now flying together , talking and laughing with one another on the in game chat, teamspeak, the forums or email and in the best of circumstances they find themselves forming close and lasting friendships with each other. Friendships that effortlessly transcend their individual preferences for one aircraft or another. I encourage you to look at ROF in a more positive light and be supportive of every person who flys any plane they desire. Our community is far too small and fragile to toss around antagonistic remarks and more importantly, any person who possesses the amount of grit, tenacity and determination required to learn to fly these planes is deserving of your respect on those grounds alone.
      Thanks for watching.
      Salute!

    • @jarekjakis3116
      @jarekjakis3116 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, what a post. OK, my judgement was a little too quick.
      Anyway, today's dangers for the human race are no longer Bismarck or Hitler. It is globallist banksters and their puppets wanting NWO.
      Back to the subject of flight sims. I, as a Pole, with sentiment, can only be found in Allied planes. If I fly say a Messerschmitt, that is just for test.
      I am ordering ROF. I used to love Red Baron...

    • @Soknik01
      @Soknik01  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're going to love it. Be sure to keep an eye on the ROF store on the website as the holidays are coming get soon and they will most likely have a huge sale with all planes at half price. Hit me up when you get ROF installed and I'll help explain some things that will get you past the learning curve for some of the controls and engine management and into the air where you can put those red baron flight skills to good use.
