YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!!! Jimmy Page is the guitar "riff" god in Rock n Roll!!! And Robert Plant is always thinking how to deliver the meanings of songs with his vocals. No. That vocal is all Robert Plant and unique. Now you have other singers that follow trying that style...but nothing like Robert Plant!!!😊😊😊 He is the Rock god of vocals!!!😊😊😊
Sweetie, I lost my mom in '04. At her memorial service, I had them play "Way Over Yonder" by Carole King. Everyone agreed that it was a spot-on choice because of how she'd relate tales of her childhood on the farm. She may have been happier living in the suburbs and working in the city, but she'd never forget the fun she had back then. Hugs, my friend.
They wrote this about their 1971 trip to and concert in Iceland. Plant and Page said they actually thought of it as a humorous song, describing the trip in terms of the imagery of the Viking explorers and were surprised at how many people took the song seriously and literally. I was in Iceland with the US Navy at the time working at a facility remote from the main base tracking Russian submarine activity in the North Atlantic. I wanted to go to that concert so badly that weekend, but I was on duty. There were about 10 other people who I could, and often did, trade duty days with when something was going on in Reykjavik I wanted to see. This was the only time time I couldn't find anyone to trade with. Everyone I asked who didn't have duty was going to the concert! I was even more disappointed when everyone came back and talked not only about how fantastic the concert was, but also the massive party afterwards where Led Zeppelin partied with everyone after the concert. Even the pilots of the British Air Force "Red Arrows" precision flying team (equivalent to the U.S Blue Angels) were spotted doing LSD at the party. They were in Iceland for a show at the base the next, which they did still perform flawlessly. Still a bittersweet memory to have been so close and unable to attend.
There is a film clip of the Zep’ airplane at Rejkiavik airport, off loading equipment on the DVD of concerts, from 2003. I flew Icelanair a few times over to Europe, Chicago to Luxembourg. When I first flew in 1985, the airport looked like in that film clip from 1971. Next transit in 1989, very modern airport. Someday, I want to leave the airport and explore Iceland. That concert DVD has an awesome concert film from Australia, daytime concert at a Cricket stadium (can be found on youT’)
@@jonathanmurphy3141 Yeah a lot of changes there over the years. Hope you do get to explore there on one of your future trips, it's an amazing place. I returned for a couple of two week vacations in 1988 and 2019. Still hoping to get back once more in my lifetime :)
It was definitely used in Thor Ragnarok, and it's perfect for it, and yet it basically refers to just kind of the history of Northern Europe and a certain point in time a long time ago. Centuries ago.
WoW i have been in mad love with Jimmy Page & COURSE Led Zeppelin since i first heard them when i was 8 years old ha & i "GOT" them even then & they have always had the power to make time & space disappear for me & like out of body experience & in other Universes & places & just the emotions their songs bring out & yea just right to your soul def a roller coaster of Wizardry & Magic to me anyway & WoW i LUV your reaction ha whoa i luv your way with words & how into it all you are YAY Thank YOU made me smile & if ya are going down a Zeppelin Rabbit Hole i am all in Weeeee so gonna go subscribe right now RockOn!!!
Can't even begin to tell of the thrill of hearing this come screaming out of the tinny little speaker of my bedside clock radio in the darkness of my nighttime bedroom, at age 12. Nothing I'd ever heard before prepared the 7th grade me for this. It was weeks before I was able to hear it on a proper stereo system, so I got to be blown away by a first time experience twice with one song. Oh, btw, in the US we pronounce that Icelandic city Rake-yuh-vik, though I'm sure it makes Icelanders roll their eyes when they hear us say it.
At a newspaper I worked at in the early '90s, I asked Ace Frehley of Kiss what book he was reading and he said Lord of the Rings because he wanted to understand Led Zeppelin better. This is more about Vikings but LOTR references are abundant in Led songs -- Misty Mountain Hop, Ramble On, The Battle for Evermore and Stairway to Heaven for instance.
You said you listened to the majority of the 2nd album. There is no song that should be missed by Zeppelin, so I really hope you circle back and catch it all. And yes, the 1972 official live version is really cool. Jimmy does a cool solo on that one.
Yeah, this song is an example of why LZ is considered the progenitors of metal, although they themselves didn't like to be labeled that way. Page is quite the creative genius, no doubt. They all were. Thanks for a great reaction! I do hope that you go back to album 2 and listen to "Ramble On" and "Moby Dick". :)
The first album by a band that I bought with my own money was "Led Zeppelin III". The first song on the album was "The Immigrant Song", and I was fascinated by it. My mom was a little shocked. It just leapt out of the speakers on my parents console unit, they don't exist anymore, and I was hooked on Rock and Roll for life. That was in 1970. Still going.
I don't know which Zep songs you've done but if you do them in order you won't have everyone asking you to do the ones you've already done. Ok my bad there's always that guy. But Zep only has a couple dudes so it's worth it
When he wants it to be, Robert's voice is every bit an instrument as the guitar drums or keyboards. A mastererful vocalist.
As a "viking" immigrant... their lyrics are amazing. Ramble On includes references to Tolkien, while churning out that incredible rock!
Yep!

……absolutely correct sir, “Riff God” (Jimmy Page) with Iommi & Blackmore right along with him 🎸🎸🎸🎸
Probably the most badass song of all time.
When my twins graduated Highschool in 2004... they were playing Zeppelin.... yeah! Proud Mom 💖

This is probably my favourite LZ track. Not a big fan but they certainly have my respect. At one time they were the biggest thing on the planet.

@ShawnSalvadori The *real* question is if Jimmy is worthy to wield Mjölnir?
Mjölnir: "I'll allow it."

Heilung: "Anoana" (off. video 2022). Nordic pre-viking masterpiece, amplified with a stunning video!
Rock Gods and Legends. Love all of it

Um, that's 1971. LOL.
One of their very best! Jimmy Page is a master on the guitar, absolutely! This entire band is phenomenal. =)
Yes it was in Ragnarok, also in Shrek.
It was also used in the movie The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
"I don't watch alot of MARVEL movies".......... Whoa! Shawn.... come aboard bro! Once you go MARVEL you never go back!
Just watched School of Rock. Jack Black sings a little of this. 🤘
