Tim Faust is a basso profundo, with a five octave range. Note the one octave drop after his solo.

This song does give a false sense of Tim's actual depth of voice. For his solo, he barely dips into bass... then coming out of the solo he does the octave drop a lot of people miss.

Thanks for the reaction video, as a Home Fry myself I am always glad to see someone finding them for the first time!

Anything you find by Home Free is impressive. They have covered classics like "When A Man Loves a Woman" (Austin, the front man in this one, takes the lead) and "American Pie" (with Don McLean). They do humorous, Christmas, classics, country, and more mainstream. Each member also has their own side projects and collaborations that are equally as good.

Several reactors/music teachers have described the bass, Tim Foust, as a basso profundo because he can sing much lower, and has a 5 octave range. He has been known to blow out subwoofer speakers.

Home Free is the real deal. They sing all genres of music not just country. Tim, the bass, is incredible and has a 5 octave range…not kidding. He can sing lower than that and sing up with the tenors. Austin, lead here, is the high tenor and can yodel. The beatboxer is amazing and was doing the harmonica, drums and other noises. Chance (last one in the video) is the baritone/bass and was doing the mouth harp sound at the beginning and end. Rob (glasses)is the tenor. They are super talented. Try Helplessly Hoping, Brothers in Arms to hear more incredible harmonies. Good reaction.

Home Free is known for their tight harmonies, walls of sound and their humor. Their version of Helplessly Hoping is a beautiful song with no beatboxing that allows you to hear all their voices. It could almost be a tutorial on how to build tight harmonies and chords. It is one of their shortest videos but breathtaking. No matter what kind of song you want to hear, you can probably find something in the Home Free catalog to interest you. Soulful, powerful, funny, sad, happy, country, pop, R&B....they really can do it all.

This group has great range: while they bill as a country group, they sing different genres equally well; you can find funny songs, serious songs, love songs, patriotic songs; they don't really have a "lead" singer but use whoever is best for a song, so have great versatility. They mostly do covers, but also have some originals, too. The more you listen, you begin to realize they just have great hearts and are very respectful. If they make fun of something, they step up and put the joke on themselves so as not to insult anyone else.

Home Fry here (Home Free fan). Loved your reaction to the video I saw first and was immediately hooked by! Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole (you’re so doomed, but in a good way) … and Home Fries will come and point the way (but don’t worry, on the whole, we’re a pretty enthusiastic but friendly group🙃). I caution you not to react to Mayday until you know the guys and what they do. 😉
Let’s introduce you to our guys:
Front left in the video, we have the silky smoothness of tenor Rob “the beard” Lundquist. His lead in End of the Road is a must-see. I also love him in Bless the Broken Road and Blue Ain’t Your Color.
Back left is baritone/bass Adam Chance, called Chance due to another Adam in the group. He took over for co-founder Chris Rupp, who left on good terms to pursue other things. Chance is the one doing the mouth harp here. I love his lead in Sea Chanty Medley, Winter Song, One Man Band, and Brothers in Arms - a fantastic tribute to troops and an absolute must see!
Center is the high tenor, the fabulous Austin Brown. When A Man Loves a Woman.
That’s all that needs to be said.
    Seriously.
Back right is founding member Adam “freak of nature” Rupp, tenor/beatboxer/vocal percussionist. He has several good drum solos (look for the one with the red plaid shirt), and to see his genius for arrangement, Do You Hear What I Hear, which (in my opinion) not only shows all individual talents, but also how well they blend as a group. In that video, you also see Chris Rupp. I highly recommend watching Adam’s “nomonica” in Ain’t Goin Down (Til the Sun Comes Up), which is only on Facebook due to some kind of copyright issue (but you can react to it on YT). It is amazing. In a rare video where you can hear him sing (he doesn’t often, and apparently doesn’t like to solo), How Great Thou Art.
Last, but not least, front right, basso profundo with a 5+ octave range: Tim Foust, who is apparently part dragon. His range, control, and breath support on his low notes is out of this world. He co-leads in Brothers in Arms. You should also check the collaboration with Avi Kaplan (former PTX bass) in Ring of Fire. I also love him in Hillbilly Bone, In the Blood, My Church, The Butts Remix (which should be watched for comedic value alone!), All About the Bass, and Champagne Tastes (which he wrote). There are several videos of “Uncle Tim Runs His Mouth” or “Story Time With Tim” that are pretty funny and worth watching.
To see their amazing harmonies, see How Great Thou Art, Helplessly Hoping, Mary Did You Know, and (again) Brothers in Arms. I also recommend Tim’s collaboration with Peter Hollands in Misty Mountains. These guys switch leads depending on who they think will be the best. They have no egos, and collaborate with other groups/artists frequently. They lean country, but obviously do many styles of music. They are amazing, talented artists and genuinely nice, funny, down to earth people, too. Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole. It’s deep, but you’ll never want to escape!

A fun bit of trivia about this song.
It was published in 1913 by Dick Burnett, a partially blind fiddler from Kentucky. The song was originally titled "Farewell Song" in a songbook by Burnett dated to around 1913. A version recorded by Emry Arthur in 1928 gave the song its current titles.

You have just been introduced to the best a cappella group out there. This song blew me away when I first heard it. These guys are all so talented. They lean towards country but they can do any genre. They all can take the lead depending on whos voice is best for the song. They are known for their tight harmonies. Tim Foust is one of the best bass singers out there & their beatboxer vocal percussionist Adam Rupp can simulate any sound. Some of my favorite songs are "Take Me Home Country Roads", "In The Blood", "Hillbilly Bone", "American Pie", "Blue Ain't Your Color", "Helplessly Hoping", "Seven Bridges Road", "How Great Thou Art", "Elvira", "Butt's Remix", "When A Man Loves A Woman", "Sea Shanty Medley".

Emma, welcome to the Home Fries fans for Home Free..... The diverse genre of music they bring to the table is simply amazing. This group is amazing in the diversity of their vocal range. Between the 5 members They have two guys that can make bass come alive, there are at least 3 or 4 that can deliver the baritone range, 4 with the Tenor II range and 3 with the Tenor I range. They sing a very wide diversity of music genre that include gospel, country, patriotic, rock n roll, blues and they are superb with their video interpretations for the songs they perform. They have well over 100 covers and also have original songs they have written too. They don't put out junk. The beat boxer Adam Rupp is an amazing artist that you will find in about 90% of their releases. The other times he sings as well. Each of the singers could have a solo career in their own right. They are simply that good!!! Enjoy the rabbit hole. I discovered and started listening to them about 2+ years ago and rarely listen to any other group. They keep things very interesting routinely releasing a new cover or song many times throughout the year.

Thank you for your kind reaction. I would suggest you listen to their cover of Johnny Cash's song. Folsom Prison Blues. Complete in prison attire.

The lead is SOOOO versatile! You should hear him on their cover of "When a Man Loves a Woman"!

Great reaction, I love this group! If you get a chance, listen to Misty Mountain with Peter Hollens and Tim Foust (the bass here) he has a 5 octave range. Also, Tim does Doo Wop on his own

New subscriber. Great reaction, too! I love it when people discover Home Free. They are a freakishly talented group of fellas! They can make you laugh sometimes, they can make you cry sometimes but they always impress. Here's a cheat sheet on the group: Adam Rupp, co-founder of HF and the awesome beatboxer. Tim Foust, bass. He has a five-octave range. Robb Lundquist (glasses and beard) Tenor Harmony. Austin Brown, Lead Tenor. Adam Chance, Baritone ( goes by Chance). Chance replaced Chris Rupp (co-founder) who left in 2016. Take Me Home Country Roads is phenomenal but you might also want to check out Dreamer, When A Man Loves A Woman, End Of The Road, One Man Band, I Swear, Blue Ain't Your Color, and Folsom Prison Blues. For some funny ones: Butts Medley, All About That Bass, Champagne Taste, Hillbilly Bone. For some serious ones: How Great Thou Art, Go Rest High On That Mountain. When you are familiar with all the boys and their vocal roles, do Mayday. And last but not least, Brothers In Arms. It is haunting and beautiful. Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole!

Great reaction ! These guys are amazing ! For awesome studio performances, try one of 'Helplessly Hoping', 'When a Man Loves a Woman', 'Brothers in Arms' or 'How Great Thou Art'. You will not be disappointed in any of their efforts - some are totally amazing. For instance, their cover of 'End of the Road' is better than the original Boys II Men version (IMHO - no hate please !)

Home Free 101: Group started in 2000, and beatboxer Adam Rupp is the last original member. Tenor Rob Lundquist (second solo) joined the group in 2008, about the same time the group went full-time. Tim Foust filled out the bass slot in 2012. Tenor Austin Brown (first solo) met the group aboard a cruise ship, then came aboard in 2013. HF won the "Sing-Off" reality show later that year. Baritone Adam "Chance" replaced founder Chris Rupp in 2016. All four singers can get below C2 and above C5, all can beatbox, and all sing lead.
