- John Mellencamp performs "Pink Houses" at Farm Aid III held on September 19, 1987 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp founded Farm Aid in 1985 and serve on the board of directors. The three agreed that family farmers were in dire need of assistance and decided to plan a concert for America. Farm Aid III was held in Lincoln, Nebraska at Memorial Stadium. Artists including Emmylou Harris, Steppenwolf, Vince Gill, Lyle Lovett, John Denver, Lou Reed, Joe Walsh, and many more performed.
Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's Board of Directors in 2001 to help further Farm Aid's mission of keeping family farmers on their land.

I just moved to Seymour,IN (John's hometown) and every time i go to check my p.o. box on Chestnut St.. I Can't help singing his "Incident on chestnut st" lol...Most of his family still live here..and his cousin is receptionist at my dental office.....Love John Mellencamp..
My mom was married to one of his cousins in the early 90s , I thoroughly enjoyed my childhood in Seymour.
I attended this so am somewhere in that crowd... what a great memory. The good ol' days. :)

Yep, I remember dancing like he is in this video. Had forgotten all about that. Being a fellow Hoosier from IU but from NW Indiana, I'm proud to have Mellencamp be one of our favorite son's. Him and Bob Knight, Lol...........!!

when you realize that the New-Grass/Progressive Americana genre would witness a substantial revival in the late 2000's, it kinda puts this particular line-up slightly ahead of their time.
He may Own a house there but his permanent (main) residence is a lakeside mansion on Lake Monroe in Bloomington,Indiana. I used to live about 2 miles from it , have since moved across town but it's HUGE ! Do a search to check out the pics of his Estate.
