I was positioned next to a really cool farmer from Iowa who held up a Harkin Bill button all day - finally paid off during Cougar’s set when one of the cameras zoomed in on the two of us for .84 seconds! (Not in this clip, it was after he spoke with a woman named Bobbie(?) about the plight of the family farmers.) So many great memories that day!
This song changed my whole way of thinking about the world I was entering into at 18 after HS graduation in 1985. Thank you so much John, you changed a lot of people's lives during your time with your excellent music.

I honestly wonder if Ryan White or if any other teens his age remember this concert. I do know that Ryan White was one of the Cougar's biggest fans, and so'm I, and I wasn't even born yet!!!
aside from my agreementness about the greatness of kenny aronoff, I want to note that this is how music is done....this is a band....nuthin fancy...not a zillion tatooed dudes grabbing their crotch and waving their hand and no emo dupes jumping like they are a human pogo stick. just some dudes playin some heartland heartfelt music

Developers are trying to get it but to honor our family we told them to fuck off. It will soon be homes all around it & we will still be proud. Money aint everything.

It was an innocent symbol of being proud of your roots and a symbol of the white working class. All of this bs about it being a racist symbol started about 20 years ago when the state of Georgia removed it from the state flag (a decision made by southerners, btw). You probably have no idea about the subtleties of American history back in 1985 and before.
