Been using these weathering pencils for 12 months and highly recommend them. I mainly build German vehicles (WW2) and have been pleased with the results . Have also used them on figures again bit of practice and pleased with the end result.

Really good video, thank you. I'm a railway modeller and in terms of techniques I think we lag behind the military vehicle community (far too busy banging our heads under baseboards fiddling with wires). I did do a lot of wargaming so know some techniques but these more realistic and technical skills are very useful. I've tried this on a girder bridge which I wanted to still look freshly painted, but as an immobile structure rain marks and streaking is apparent almost immediately. These pencils are an easy to use product and thanks to your video I was able to approach the project with a bit more confidence. I am subscribing, thanks again. Adam (Weymouth)

Great tips. Especially the delayed multiple-pass damp brushing. New tools require new methods. Love these pencils. Just bought a set and watched a number of videos. This is technique is very "painterly" and as such is not for everyone. For me though, it's perfect.

I have several of the Ak Interactive Weathering Pencils & I have been happy with the results. Very much like pigments but with more control & complements Vallejo's weathering effects.

I read that they work better on a matt coat.

Does it matter if the model is coated in dull coat, matte, or gloss coat before you apply these pencils?

gloss makes it easy to blend and clean, matte makes it harder to clean, depends on how dirty you want it to look, but I always say beginners should start with gloss.

I cant deny there are cheaper ways to get products, when you think about it even enamel based weathering products are just thinned down enamel paints.

      @@rayfraser1773 They're a water-baed alkyd, similar to high-end makeup pencils

It's a terrible technique with these pencils. It is much better to simply use a sludge wash. Faster and more controllable.
