  • St. John's is the capital and largest city of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador, located on the eastern tip of the Avalon Peninsula on the island of Newfoundland.
    The city spans 446.04 km2 (172.22 sq mi) and is the easternmost city in North America (excluding Greenland).
    Its name has been attributed to the belief that John Cabot sailed into the harbour on the Nativity of John the Baptist in 1497, although it is most likely a legend that came with British settlement. A more realistic possibility is that a fishing village with the same name existed without a permanent settlement for most of the 16th century. The city was founded by Spanish fishermen from the Guipúzcoa port of Pasajes de San Juan, who arrived in those lands at the beginning of the 16th century in search of fishing, settled and called the place San Juan de Pasajes, today is known as San Juan de Terranova.[13] Indicated as São João on a Portuguese map from 1519, it is one of the oldest cities in North America.[14] It was officially incorporated as a city in 1888. With a metropolitan population of approximately 212,579 (as of February 9, 2022), the St. John's Metropolitan Area is Canada's 20th-largest metropolitan area and the second-largest Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) in Atlantic Canada, after Halifax.
    The city has a rich history, having played a role in the Seven Years' War, the American Revolutionary War, and the War of 1812. Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi received the first transatlantic wireless signal in St. John's. Its history and culture have made it into an important tourist destination. St. John's was referred to as Baile Sheáin (Johnstown), in the poetry of Donnchadh Ruadh Mac Conmara (1715-1810), and among speakers of the Irish language in Newfoundland.

    I was there for five days of a 3 week visit to The Rock in late July. You should see my goggle map's route for that last day. I did not want to say goodbye! I didn't get to see everything I wanted to
    I think about it every day.

    Did you film on a weekend or is the population just low ?

      You can easily answer that. Low is also relative.

    Anyone watch Hudson & Rex? In that they always show the outside of the Police Headquarters in St. John's, with loads of Police personnel walking in and out of the building. I was wondering if there are doughnut shop(s) nearby (like within walking distance)?

    • @mysticalarrow1
      @mysticalarrow1 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Honestly yes , the real police headquarters does have a Tim Hortons next to it. BUT that is a TV show and the police headquarter's on it show actors and is shot at the University.

    Hi I will be in St John's in couple mouths as international graduate student. As far as i'm aware of i what saw up now on youtube. NL has low population rate. kind of bad news for finding job on ease dispite the important vacancies i've heard. still as a person who likes quite places with closseness to nature NL is the best.

      Job searching here is hard but not impossible. Few tips though. Let a hiring manager see your face. While applying for jobs online is certainly a thing. You have a better chance of interviewing and getting hired if a prospective employer gets to meet you in person. It's hard but not impossible. Good luck.

    I'm thinking about moving up there in the near future. Currently I live in Florida. I know what you're thinking, "you be crazy! Why would you want to go from sub-tropical paradise to the land of ice-bergs?" Look what's happening to the climate, to the weather. It's not just global warming, it's abrupt global warming! The only question is how far will it go. To further pontificate, the issue has been politicized, as would be expected. Conservative types don't believe it's happening, or that it's a conspiracy or that it's no big deal. Your boy Jordan Petersen thinks it's a hysterical social contagion. Well when push comes to shove, as a member of the reality based community (R.B.C.) I believe what the scientists say, and 98 o/o say it is happening, and it's man made and it's very serious and only going to get worse.
