    you are 100% correct Meguiar's should do some sponsorship since you just gave them free advertisement to over 150,000 viewers. Thanks for the review by the way. A good test would be a revisit of the same application 3 weeks later.

    Very nice you took the time to compare these! I do have some remarks though...
    1. Why did you use 3 paste waxes and one liquid? You can also get NXT Tech Wax as a paste. It would have made it even more accurate.
    2. Beading/sheeting isn't everything. Yes, it looks cool, but in fact it tells very little about the quality. Basically you can judge a wax on 2 criteria: gloss and protection. I know from personal experience that the Gold Class works best on dark cars and gives the deepest gloss/reflection. The NXT works great on lighter cars and stays on the longest. I must admit I haven't tried the cleaner wax and ultimate wax.
    3. It would be nice to add the differences in the type of wax. The cleanerwax is a synthetic all in one wax (cleaner, glaze and wax). The NXT is a synthetic sealant, made to give the most durable protection. The Gold Class is a carnauba wax, made from natural materials, giving the best shine but little durability. The Ultimate is a synthetic/carnauba hybrid wax combining a deeper gloss compared to the NXT and more durability compared to the gold Class.
    These remarks aside I still think you did a nice video and I really like your collection of cars!
    P.s. excuse my bad spelling/writing. I'm from the Netherlands and English isn't my mother language.

    From what I've read throughout the years, a carnauba wax will work best on a show car/ car that doesn't see the elements too much. This is because when it heats up the carnuba molecules tend to "open" up and trap dust. That's why cars are dusty when they've just been polished. The synthetic type waxes won't do this and resist the elements better... Down side is that it won't have that same deep colorful shine as the carnuba.

    Nice test, i use a lot of Meguiars for detailing my own and others vehicles. The last two are full polymer waxes ;so it makes sense that the water beads better and flows off better. The cleaner wax has its place if the car has embedded dirt if someone isn't inclined to clay first, and its cheap. The gold class has no cleaners in it but it has some carnauba and some polymer so you can get more depth on dark metallic paints.plus better protection The last two have no carnauba so you wont get much depth. All i noticed is the ring and watch. I actually took a Meguiars seminar when i trained at a car wash. Jewelry is not accepted. Just saying

      I heard Cleaner wax hurts clear coat; the Gold Class won't hurt right? I want that hydrophobic effect, so, dust won't cling on the car.
      Thanks.

    • @josephlahood4647
      @josephlahood4647 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I never heard cleaner wax hurts clear coat i you use top brands. I know cleaner wax has solvents and slight polishes in them that prevent you from building them. Any additional coats remove the previous one. Waxes like Gold Class and Mothers Gold can be used after a cleaner wax because they contain no solvents or abrasives.. I love those two after a cleaner wax or polymer wax on darker colors.

    Nice job on this video. I actually use the professional version of tech wax 2.0 which is called synthetic sealant 2.0. Amazon has it for $40 but it will last you an extremely long time and it lasts on the car a long time too. Great for keeping bug guts and bird droppings from eating into your paint. I like to use the carnauba wax, then sealer and finish it with 'Last Touch' detailing spray to really protect the clear coat from the elements. Water definitely beads off nicely and car washes after are easier to perform because dirt does not stick. Again great job on video, hope you get more thumbs up and hits!

    it seems strange that even a detailer doesn't know that the angle of water and how you spray it will cause differentiations in how the water beads you even can create beads on a surface that has nothing on it

  • @theclutch19
    @theclutch19 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Saw no difference... That you think the water repels faster on the more premium side seems like you may be looking for a difference. The control side on the right side seems to repel just as much or not that much of a difference. I think you got the right idea of doing the different sections, but the section widths are too small for us to see any discernible difference. The shine all looks the same. So in order for us to see the difference in water repelling, the width of the sample sections need to be wider. So next time, maybe you can just do 2 waxes on the hood and 2 waxes on the trunk? THANKS for taking the time to do this!

  • @philcuore
    @philcuore 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    i guess without removing the blue tape or without buffing it off, we would see clearer the differences, as when you have buff off the strip ... i think some of the wax residue has contaminated the blue strip area, thus from my eye point, i see a polished car hood, unable to determined which area is stripped to the core and which has the highest water repellent. Just my 2 cent, i would love to see more of your experiment.

  • @s3loma
    @s3loma 9 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    Hey, I see your in to this "waxing stuff"... I was there a few years back myself. You did a great job on the video comparison however I think the following information will be pertinent to you. Couple of things for you to know. The true test on the water beading is how well it runs off the car... not what stays on the car. I won't bore you with molecular structure of water and surface tension relationships but in terms we all understand water as you know will seeks its own level. The molecules stick together unless they are disrupted via surface tension of some sort. Depending of the gravitational pull the surface tensions is either strong enough to hold it in place (ie. the beads of water on the hood of a car) or the molecules release to again seek its own level. OK, how does this apply to Paint and wax? Well with the absence of surface tension the water will flow off the car and actually not bead up at all. But a coat of oil on the car and see how it won't bead up at all. What causes the water to stay on the car is tiny little imperfections like contaminants from the road, sky etc. as well as the hardness of water itself. Then you say what about the "freshly waxed car". Well to your hand it feels smooth as glass but the reality is there is minute clumping of wax on freshly waxed car also giving the water something to hold on to. So run off is better test. You'll also notice that there are some droplets bigger than others. Long explanation but bigger droplets are a result of the contaminates and hard minerals in the water itself and the size of the imperfection the water it being held up by. For fun, buy a gallon of distilled water and then use that on a similar test and you'll notice a lot more runoff because the hard water deposits in the water are not there to attach to other contaminants/surface tension. So your real test is not what stays on the hood but what rolls off as well as how long it last and also what I think is the most important aspect is "ease of use" and "depth and richness of shine". Any which way, the wax is used to form a layer of protection between atmospheric conditions and the clear coat top of paint. Clear coat protects the paint itself now so we use wax to protect the clear coat. Things like Industrial waste and hard chemicals and minerals in water and other crap in our air make an acidic compound that when left on your car etch the surface of your clear coat or paint and lead to various types of oxidation. We want our wax to protect us from that oxidation while giving us a beautiful shine with great depth to it. These newer polymer waxes have less microscopic imperfection once applied that allow less surface tension to be present therefore more water runoff while providing longer protection as a better barrier to the outside elements and sun.
    Lastly, as a tip to your fans. When washing your car don't use a spray nozzle on the final rinse. Take off the nozzle and turn on the water to med/low so its coming out slow enough to not be disrupted at the hose end and gently guide it over the hood and systematically work your self around the car over the windows down the doors etc. You'll find you barely have to dry your car as the water stays "heavily" attached to its self and rolls off nicely.

      That's because meguiars waxes have crappy durability (Meguiars gold might get you 2 months at best). Get either Collinite 845 (an easy to apply and remove wax that lasts 5 months) or Collinite 476 (a harder to apply and remove wax that lasts 8 months). P.S - I'm a car detailer and Collinite's what I use for my biz.

    ammo? The only problem with that is because they are pro detailing items, you cant buy them in normal stores which means ordering. I try to help the average joe with this channel and test things you can buy at any local store. Most people will never order away for car care products but will run down to Walmart or a car parts store for their items. Maybe in the future I will expand the channel but for now, I plan to stick to this setup.

Doesn't matter if it has wax in or not. It is just a wax maintenance spray so has minimal impact by time you wipe you car down, pre wax, wax and use sealant. They clay is just to remove the contaminents not the wax so you could use it with out stripping old wax off depending on the quality of the finish thats on your car.

      If the swirls are bad you'll have to buff it with a buffer. Cutting compound then swirl remover, which takes a layer of clearcoat with it. If the paint has a lot of surface scratches then it may need to be wet sanded. Truth be told, every new car could use a buff. If you ever look at the paint you'll see what's known as orange peels. Because the paint isn't smooth like glass, there's a lot of irregularities that looks like an orange peel.

      its ok, im no pro either. You really see the difference overtime and the carnuba will pop on my cars much more than the synthetics (tech wax and ultimate). All 4 waxes were fresh, they better not suck that quickly:)

      Acc0rd79 So which Would you most recommend? The gold? I couldn't tell from the video either, but you said the gold wax was easier to remove and it has the carnuba and makes it look better... or whatever. lol. Sorry, I don't really have any experience with this. I just bought the red one the other day and was planning on washing/waxing my car tomorrow.
      I'm down to take it back and get something better though.

    • @Acc0rd79
      @Acc0rd79  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** I enjoy that wet look to the wax that makes it pop more so I like the carnuba but for my cars that have to sit in the sun all day long, I use the Ultimate or Tech wax because they are synthetic which gives me longer lasting protection. But, my 2 garage cars always have carnuba based wax.

Thank you for a great video. One trick I have learned over the years which most people probably know already if add a little water on top of the wax in the container it makes it easier to use. All I have is a beater I got for free and fixed up. It had barely a scratch. Still, I do take care of it. Last summer I washed and waxed it (cheap orange cloured wash & wax combo). Next summer I'll use turtle wax because I have it. I don't believe in spending all that money though I can. Just my two cents.

    Mate just detail cars every day on price if that's what you want. Stop messing around with four waxes on one bonnet. Decontamination, wash, clay, polish, sealant, wax, glaze, glass, wheels on and off. Dry vacuum or wet carpet shampoo, trim clean and dress, engine bay and boot, door shuts. The list goes on. One good job leads to another. Meguire used to make an ultra safe alloy wheel brush. I used it the tip came off and I scratched a client Bentley wheel.

    Cleaner Wax is called that for a reason. Certain people don't clay bar their car to smooth it out, nor get rid of residual contaminants/pollution that the wrong kinds of soaps (e.g., dish soap) or a bad wash may not have cleared. So cleaner waxes help to bring those contaminants to the surface before you wipe it away, thus cleaning and protecting the paint. On the other hand, the non-cleaner wax, expects some serious notion of cleaning before application.
    That said, this isn't a comparison of apples-to-apples. They have different purposes, which you might want to consider. In your case you supposedly cleaned your car correctly, so a Cleaner Wax may be pointless. You may want to consider another video of not cleaning your car properly, nor using a claybar (I wouldn't recommend it, since it could also be damaging).

    nice video but I would say the most important thing is how the water seeps/sheets away not beads up, because ultimately thats what's you want how quickly the water runs off...when it beads up the water can just run a little bit but still sit there... when it slides down and runs off in one big sheet THAT'S WHAT YOU WANT... so with that said which do you think sheeded Off the best overall?

    There's more to a wax's performance profile than beading. Carnuba lends more depth but is high maintenance, cleaner wax is good for cleaning, really like the 3m product. A good progressive buffing is a must at least once. Hell even Ferrari come with orange peel. Nxt 2.0 is my favorite all around with Zaino a close 2nd

  • @jamesfowler6439

    So I've used all of these and I'll say that I decided on the Gold Class Carnuba over the Tech wax because the Gold Class with Carnuba actually lasts more than a few washes. The Tech stuff is fine. It goes on easy and comes off fast, but it only lasts 3-4 washes. Why do you think it's so hard to see when applied and so easy to remove? At that cost, it's just not lasting long enough. I can't see waxing my car every month to keep it protected. Anything with Carnuba is going to last you.

    Tech Wax 2.0 isn't even wax. It's a sealant. Based on this video alone the Gold Class appears to have the most shine from what I can see. But, the Tech Wax (being a sealant, not a wax) should outlast all the others. I guess it's just personal preference for everyone. I just use the liquid bottle of cleaner wax on the whole car right after winter, then I'll use the liquid bottle of gold class around July, and everything in between I simply use spray wax. However... I do use the gold class paste wax on my headlights clean lenses.

    I use the cleaner wax more to get of gunk, should there be any, and deeper scratches. Then used to go over it with Gold on whole car. Looks like I will be switching to the 2,0 or Ultimate. Also, shout out on the 4th gen Prelude. I actually have one now I got from original owner with only 60,000 miles. I am going to sell though cause I just don't drive it often and have too many cars. It was used as a show car and been a blast. Love those gen 4 Preludes!

    Why not clean / do a paint prep like using a new blue color paint prep that you can get from AutoZone or O’Reillys? Of course after washing to remove any cross traffic that maybe on the car from driving around town. That would be a much better solution than the Palmolive and is actually designed for automotive paint

    I don't mess with the cans. I'd rather Deal with the liquid in the bottles. I've used the cleaner wax it does ok. but I like the meguires wax. I can't find anymore of it so I'm having to switch to the cleaner wax. I've clayed my truck Friday the 13th waxed it this makes the second time since this passed december. an it's to a mirror finish. water gets on it, it runs right off an beads up nicely. when I first clayed it I compound it polished it then used the wax. Turned out really good. but since I did it agian the second time I didn't go with compound or the Polish I went to the clay then waxed it. it is 10 xs better than when I first clayed my truck. it has really brightened an shined the paint marvously. took Alot of the oxidation that was starting to set on off.

    A cleaner/wax or cleaning/sealant would offer some level of cleaning ability using either chemical cleaning agents, solvents and/or some type of abrasives and often times a combination of all three. Cleaner/Waxes are also referred to as One-Step products or All-In-One products. Cleaner/waxes can be used to restore neglected paint to good to excellent condition depending upon how bad of condition the paint is in and the cleaning ability or strength of the cleaning agents in the cleaner/wax.
    A finishing wax or finishing sealant would not contain any ingredients with the intended ability to clean or abrade the paint. Products in this category should only be used on paint in excellent or brand new condition or neglected paints that have been previously cleaned and polished and thus restored to new or excellent condition. (Autogeek.net)
    I wouldn't pay as much attention to the cleaner wax as it is used for a different type of job. The other 3 waxes are great to compare and I think you did a good job doing that!

  • @petethompson1282

    I found no matter what the car or my technique the cleaner wax lasts about 2 weeks but it also puts in instant swirl marks/scratches. Maybe this is due to cleaning ability or the micro abrasives are too harsh. Either way wont be buying again. I am trialling NXT tech wax 2.0 right now, seems to protect well 1 week on so far. We'll see. The one to beat was my sealant - Armorall for $9 as it lasts months

    There are two other consider, cleaning and longevity. Theses waxes have different properties by design. Shedding water is the only common characteristic. The cleaner wax has an abrasives where the others don’t. Also the actual wax properties are different which affects the longevity. So the water test is fine but you’re only examining one of the characteristics of the products. You should do a cleaner and longevity test to be fair.
