I would love Skies of Arcadia, Shining Force, Dragon Force,, and Phantasy Star being active again. Newer but I would also like a new Valkyria Chronicles game Maybe a 7th Dragon collection Edit: And a Sakura Wars turn based games collection preferably having at least the first five main games and the two GBC games. And we know Phantasy Star IV wasn't the final battle against Dark Force so there's no reason there couldn't be games set later.
Just revive old good Overworks (AM1+AM7) series like Phantasy Star, Dragon Force, Magic Knight Rayearth, Sakura Wars (original games), Skies of Arcadia, Valkyria Chronicles, 7th Dragon, Shinobi, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, The House of The Dead. All their franchises are now barely alive (Valkyria Chronicles, Sakura Wars, Phantasy Star) or dead.

A full Shining Force 3 remake/remaster would be the best thing ever. We only had one CD in the West, whch is such a shame! It was such an ambitious title! Pretty much what Radiant Dawn would do, 10 years earlier!
Remasters of all the Shining Force games would be awesome, especially for those of us who've never finished the old games since our Sega Genesis/Megadrives couldn't handle multiple hours of play time.
Shining Force series (maybe 2 gets the treatment Resurrection of Dark Dragon got), and the Phantasy Stars series would be so great to see with some more modern updates. Always enjoy the energy you bring to your videos
SF would need a more radical rework in order to be a competitive product nowadays, because of how the public is so used to optimized and refined srpgs. Even the SF Gba remake is very rough for respecting too much the old formula. A modern SF (remake or not) would have to be optimized in the same sense of how Fire Emblem after the Gba gen was heavily optimized compared to the early games. Now I just don't have a definitive opinion about going 2d or 3d. Or if it goes 3d, I have doubts about the characters being either more cartoony/deformed (3ds FE) or less deformed (Switch FE).
Hey Dave, did you know that most of the team that did Phantasy Star IV created Skies of Arcadia? And it's funny that you should mention landstalker being reminisce of Alundra. The Landstalker team made Alundra.

About that... i have serious doubts if a possible modern PS (remake or not) would be turn based. Sega doesn't seem to value these games after all since they are abandoned. So there are chances that it's turn based and chances that it's another thing.
New Phantasy Star would be great! I'm making prayers to gods of blast processing that Sega really brings back lotsa old game series, new games and remasters! :)
Don't play with my heart, David. There is only so much I can handle, and a Phantasy Star revival might be too much (specially Phantasy Star Portable 👀)! 😍
Phantasy Star, Altered Beast, After Burner, Alex the Kidd, Ecco the Dolphin, so many great, great games that have gone dark since Sega stopped making consoles. I cannot wait to see some of these revived. Phantasy Star in particular had some remasters that never made it here to the states, that I wanted to play so very, very badly when they were announced. I'd LOVE to see those brought over.
Phantasy Star being my favorite rpg of all time (IV to be exact but love the series as a whole as well) never clicked so fast on a video of yours. That image you used for Alis is pretty nice I got to say. Where did you nab it?
My idea for a new Phantasy Star: a thousand years or so have passed since PSIV. The Algo Star System has advanced and is peaceful. Colonists from Motavia and Dezoris are now settling a distant star system. All has gone well so far, but now a power struggle has broken out due to disagreements about what direction the colonies should take, and how much they should have to obey orders from back home. Your characters would belong to the familiar races (Palman, Motavian, Dezorian, Android, Numan, Musk Cat) and would hold familiar jobs like Hunter, Biologist, Machinist, Thief, Doctor, etc. So it would be a new story in a new setting with zero connection to the Dark Force saga, but it would use familiar tropes (abilities, equipment, enemies, etc.) and would have loose ties to what came before. Separate enough for new players, but rooted in lore enough to make old timers happy. Make the battle system, menu system, and overall anime-inspired look similar to what existed back in the day but update to current standards and tastes as necessary.
I remember buying a Sega Genesis (back when it was new) and asking the shop keeper for an RPG recommendation - as I had just gotten into them. They recommended Phantasy Star IV and it was such an amazing title. I would love a collection of the titles, both Genesis and the spin off GameGear ones for completion sake. I know other companies have done great collections recently - Capcom for example throwing in extras in theirs like promotional art, sketches, etc. They (SEGA) can do the same here. Go the extra mile, and include the original ROMs of the games - but also enhanced versions of the first three bringing them up to something closer to PSIV in terms of visuals and such; plus fixing of bugs, etc.
a new modern Shining Force is probably one of my biggest wishes of my entire life, make a good looking modern SF 4 and I will buy it full price day one! and a Phantasy Star 5!!!
If only Sega wasn't blind to the potential of a modern SF. I have little hopes because nothing has been made... so Sega wasn't convinced of investing harder on SF even after the global breakthrough of Fire Emblem in the 00's. Like, there was that Gba remake of SF1, but it wasn't that good and clearly not enough. Sega in the 00's missed both the opportunity of the warmed up market for srpgs, and the opportunity of the handheld fever (Gba, Psp, Ds, 3ds, etc). Tragic, because an ambitious SF project (remake or not) had the best chances of doing great at that time, maybe on the Gba or Ds.
Remake and give sequels to ALL of them. Phantasy Star, Shining Force (And for the love of The Lord, KEEP THE OLD ART STYLE! And also less Humans and more Non-Humans.), Skies of Arcadia, Dragon Force, Panzer Dragoon Saga, etc.
That's legit amazing news. Sega has more banger abandonded franchises than most of their contemporaries have franchises period. As much as I played PSO, the original series ending has been a 30 year tragedy.at this point. I'd lay down serious coin to see the series continue, or even just to see remakes of the original in the vein of the Generation remasters they did of 1 and 2 on the PS2.
Those games are lame...The whole point of reviving the PS franchise is to bring back what made the CLASSICS great, not the generic schlock they call PS now.
@beebs_magoo Phantasy Star Universe was one of the best jrpgs on the PS2, it had a killer soundtrack, a story that kept you engaged, whether you played solo or co-op, likeable characters that were the just the right balance of serious and goofy. Also the theme song for both the base game and the expansion are all time classics to this day.
@@deathbykonami5487 Ewww, gross. Even back then, I couldn't stand it. They've abandoned the aesthetic and magic from the classic games in such a way that it could've been named anything else and nothing would've changed. Forgettable characters and music. It bums me out that this is what people think of when PS comes up. Generic animoo BS
I played my first Phantasy Star game this year with PSIV on the NSO service. I did enjoy it a lot, enough to make me want to go play PSI and II. However, I am not sure if I want to deal with the older school sensibilities (I have found the 16 bit era is about as far back as I can comfortable go as someone who started gaming in 2000). Turns out, I won't need to since PS2 remakes were made back in the day for PSI and II, and, while passed on localization, fans have translated them. If anything, Sega needs to remaster those two and use them as a foundation to also remake III and IV (originally they were going to do IV for PS2--but not III) and/or build out into new numbered titles.
Seeing a new Phantasy Star RPG in the same vein as Metaphor ReFantazio would be great ... but I dunno, what if some yahoo on the Sega executive board decides to "reimagine" Phantasy Star as a looter shooter, or a hero shooter? What if the idea is that only the name brand has value and not the classic game design philosophy?
love that style of anime aesthetics ,phantasy star is a great setting so that could be a hit in my book. I think having strayed from what made their money in the first place to chase trends and MORE money to end up wondering "where money?" is endemic to the gaming industry these days so you are on point there David.
Phantasy Star IV is a good choice. Phantasy Star III is an even better one. Why touch perfection when there's a perfectly good diamond in the rough that could actually benefit from such polishing?
Interessing how you like PS III. Is rare (i'm too like it)! The concept os generatiosn and choices on game was inovations, and to came some re-play's factor. Without count the grafics of sprites, is beatifull, most beauty than the PS II (my prefer, was my frist). Only thing is not nice is the battle system...these enemy's sprites move only one frame is very terrible!
David, I was SO happy to see your video title this afternoon. I clicked on this video in .25 seconds man! I only had a Sega Mega drive growing up. My first RPGs were Shining Force followed by Phantasy Star 3. I know PS3 gets a lot of hate but that’s all I had as a kid and I remember loving it. I’m so happy these have a real shot at coming back. I love the new reincarnation of these older style games. They bring me back to a better time. They are more relaxed and still tell a great story. Even the newer IPs like Octopath and Triangle Strategy are great. Phantasy Star Remakes of 1-4 would be amazing followed by a new 5th one. Why did they ever stop!? Wish I could subscribe more than once pal love the videos.
Shining Force and Phantasy Star are clear winners, if possible. Huge bonus if we get even just a port of Shining Force CD. What a fantastic game. Pretty sure it's on that recent retro console thing I can plug into a TV but I'd rather just have it on PlayStation (along with the whole series).
David, it's ONLY in Western countries that we see PS4 as being the literal "end" of the Profound Darkness and Dark Falz. At no point was this actually the case in Japan. They were going to make PS5 and were already planning it out before the Saturn was heavily pushed with online features, and instead of PS5, they decided on making a Phantasy Star Online experience. PS5 was never an issue, as it was the end of the Algol star system as the defacto holding cell for the Profound Darkness. Another 1,000 years or so and she'll be revived, as this is already baked into the lore. You can't destroy her, ever. Just defeat her physical form and she returns anyhow. It's just that she's no longer bound. Phantasy Star 4 was also deliberately chosen to take place BEFORE Phantasy Star 3; roughly 100~300 years. Meaning Dark Falz exists AFTER the defeat of its master. Meaning the Profound Darkness is just in reclusion as an energy source and unable to take form or have an individual will and direction. This is due to Eastern philosophy of good and evil versus Western bullshit. You can never truly destroy evil, as it's Yin and Yang and part of the whole. So long as light exists, so does darkness. Positive, so to does negative. You can overwhelm the other side, but the former will always be restored as it's intrinsically part of the system and existence. The profound darkness is more like the birthing of a will of darkness as a result of a lot of dark and evil deeds being carried out, alongside a need to balance existence as light takes actions, darkness has to also build itself in equal measure. It's just now an overwhelming situation as how do you write a story where the Profound Darkness can now spawn anywhere? Can hide itself? Do you take it from the perspective of tracking it down over multiple new games, by following the spawns of its will in the form of Dark Falz/Dark Force?
This year I finaly played Phantasy Star 1 from start to end, next year I will Phantasy Star 2, I hope we can have a PSO1 Remaster or a PH1 remake or a PH5
I'm pretty sure they will continue changing own turn based franchises into button mashers, like they did with Phantasy Star, Shining Force, Valkyria Chronicles, and Sakura Wars. It's Sega, and they never learn.
A collection of all four Phantasy Star games would be great, they didn't all come to the Genesis collection on Switch, only 2, 3, and 4. No idea why the first one didn't get added too.
I had the chance to buy the collection before it got delisted. I played through all 4 during 2020, and IV is indeed amongst the best from this era. Visually stunning, with an epic story. I still prefer PS2's somber tone personally, but it's great.

As much as I played PSO, the original series ending has been a 30 year tragedy.at this point. I'd lay down serious coin to see the series continue, or even just to see remakes of the original in the vein of the Generation remasters they did of 1 and 2 on the PS2.
Hopefully this means we're getting a remaster of Phantasy Star Universe, which has both the base game and the Ambition of the Illuminatus expansion.
I hope so. I poured nearly two hundred hours in the base game but never got around to play the DLC. A remake that combines both would be perfect.
It’s definitely a good time to be a Phantasy Star fan!
But it's truly naive to believe that a possible new PS would still be turn based, for example. That could happen or could not happen as well.
Albert Odyssey was a banger too. My favorite game on the Saturn for sure. Damn I’m old lol.
My first ever rpg is phantasy star 1 and this is my beloved series that I love ❤️
man what i would give to see some new shining force games or even a full HD release of shining force 3.
Phantasy Star Online was incredible!! But no, I don't need another one. I don't have the time to sink into something like that again 😂
love that style of anime aesthetics ,phantasy star is a great setting so that could be a hit in my book.
God I hope so the old none MMO type Phantasy stars are some of my favourite games of all time and new Panzer dragoon games would be welcomed.
Remaking good stuff is smart, plain and simple.
Don't you do this to me David. Don't you dare give me hope!
I'd love to finally get to play Skies of Arcadia as I missed it back in the day. It looks pretty neat.
This year I finaly played Phantasy Star 1 from start to end, next year I will Phantasy Star 2, I hope we can have a PSO1 Remaster or a PH1 remake or a PH5
Good luck. Phantasy Star II is very unforgiving and ruthless.
Shining force better not be another generic anime action RPG, they better stick with the Camelot soft magic
I'm pretty sure they will continue changing own turn based franchises into button mashers, like they did with Phantasy Star, Shining Force, Valkyria Chronicles, and Sakura Wars. It's Sega, and they never learn.
But isn't SF technically only the srpg? The arpgs are "Shining [something else]".
Lol took me 6 minutes to realize the background music is from phantasy star.
I will insta buy any Phantasy Star remake.
Dear sega.....skies of arcadia
Dear capcom....breath of fire
Thank you
Fingers crossed for Phantasy Star and Shining Force 😮
Thanks for the news. Subbed. Happy holiday, David 🎮
You're welcome and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
A collection of all four Phantasy Star games would be great, they didn't all come to the Genesis collection on Switch, only 2, 3, and 4. No idea why the first one didn't get added too.
Never got to play Phantasy Star IV, and I think the collection that had it got delisted from the eshop. 😔
Bummer! Thats why im oldschool and buy physical whenever I can, they can never delist my physical copy!
I had the chance to buy the collection before it got delisted. I played through all 4 during 2020, and IV is indeed amongst the best from this era. Visually stunning, with an epic story.
I still prefer PS2's somber tone personally, but it's great.
I remember the old sonic cartoons too David
