I learned a very important lesson from this video. About 5 years ago, we had taken one of our cats to the vet because he just wasn't the same. It ended up that his blood sugar levels were through the roof! She immediately gave him a shot and then explained that he had diabetes. All she told us was that we would have to prick his paw 2 times per day and then give him insulin. My wife went BALLISTIC! My wife told the vet that she couldn't put him through that kind of pain twice a day for the rest of his life. He was 12 years old at that point. I changed his diet but, he was a very smart cat. He would hide from me if he knew that I needed to get blood. He only lived another 4 months. It was the WORST DAY OF MY WIFE'S LIFE! Even back then, the vet didn't say anything about wet vs dry food. I have a big cat now. I rescued her from outside. She belonged to someone because she had already been fixed. I have been giving her kibble for the last 4 years. That STOPS TONIGHT! I NEVER KNEW THAT IT WAS BAD FOR MY BABY. THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO

@@chainamarie03 If you notice cats barely chew the kibble, they swallow. The best thing is raw food and under supervision you can give your cat raw chicken wings so he can chew and that will clean his teeth.

Never feed your pets any dry or "Man"ufactured pet"food." It's all poison. I lost my dog to Science Diet in 2018. I rescued a 5wk old puppy in 5/2022, and now I produce and sell her unseasoned food. Before WW2 and pet"food" the average age of a Golden Retriever was 19. Post WW2, and petpoison it's 12.

Me and my boyfriend's male cat was diagnosed with UTI or struvite stones 2 years ago and our veterinarian recommended dietary kibble/dried food. We were sceptical as we should be because there was no moisture in the kibble and his UTI or an urinary obstruction repeated which is normally fatal for cats. We were really mad at our veterinarian because he could've died because of this. So I did my own research and watched loads of your videos, I tried valerian tincture, L-teanine and I started to feed both of our cats with exclusively wet food which I mix with additional water because they don't drink a lot. Your channel has helped us so much! Eternally grateful

I started buying tuna, and the cat LOVES it, but I read that tuna can cause issues. So, I have cut it back to just a treat, every now and then. I will likely switch to cooked chicken and see if that helps. One thing I have found, I bought a ceramic pet fountain, and put it on the porch, I noticed the cat drinks much more water from the fountain, and ignores the still water bowl inside. I like that it is ceramic, and has activated charcoal filters that are replaceable. I have a 5 and 1 micron filter on the cold water inlet to the house, and also filter all the drinking water (for all of us) with the Brita filters/containers. I wash and sanitize the pet fountain on a weekly basis, and change the filter in the fountain every month. It's nice to see her sitting out on the porch drinking from the top of the fountain. I added a small fish tank heater to the fountain, so it wont freeze in the winter months when the temp can drop slightly below freezing for a few weeks. She has a cat door, and does her business outside, hopefully that encourages her to relieve herself frequently with no smell issues. I just want her to live a long, healthy, happy life and feel loved. :)

I feed them wet, breakfast and dinner, then keep a bowl of dry kibble out 24/7 for in-between meals.
I don't know what else to do...

I'm from USA but moved to Denmark to be with my husband, we got 3 Siberian cats. They were on a supposed "high quality" canned food, but I could tell by some of their symptoms and how their poop smelled and the consistency that it was, in reality, terrible quality food. Even though they were extremely active, they soon became lethargic, began gaining lots of weight despite feeding them proper amounts, had frequent diarrhea, and scooching across the carpet, not to mention their poop smelled so awful and strong it filled the apartment despite being in an enclosed litter box with a charcoal filter. My family in USA, switched our 2 Labradors to a properly balanced commercial raw food company and the health differences in them were astounding. So I spent months, hours everyday on the computer trying to find a proper raw food company in Denmark because it would be too expensive to make it on my own(organ meats are actually eaten regularly here). I ended up finding a brand of raw food, and it was way cheaper than what I was feeding the cats before. The first change was they had incredible amounts of energy again, they stopped having diarrhea altogether, their poop became nice and plump as it should be and hard enough to allow their anal glands to express on their own the way they're supposed to and that alleviated the scooching on the carpet. They began to lose weight at a steady rate and now they are where they should be. Their fur is 10x softer than before with much less shedding. Their poop, doesn't smell a stitch. I am able to have an open Modkat XL litter box now because there is 0% smell from their poop. Only smell the ammonia from their urine at the end up the day when its time to clean the litter box anyways. Please do your research on finding raw for your cats. Don't give up, because what you feed your cat will either spend more money at the vet or at home healthy as a kitten.

After you said Murray has reversed diabetes, I decided to do the same and cut down on dry cat’s food. We drastically reduced dry food to almost nothing. The super chubby one eats slower and is now perfectly slender, but at a healthy weight. The other was bloated, but now is perfect weight too. I figured, if I’m buying cat food, the money will even out too. I feed them 3 meals a day, plus treats. I’m hoping they never get the UTI issues. Even so, years ago, I decided never to buy the cheap dry cat food ever again because somebody said their vet told him that it causes urinary tract infections. Then, my cat acted like it had one, and I gave it an opened capsule of good probiotics on it’s wet food for about a week and she got all better.

Hi Registered veterinary nurse here. I agree that the dry pet foods don't contain enough moisture but I have a question; I was taught as a VN that wet food deposits more in the mouth which contributes to dental calculus and tartar? My cat does suffer with FLUTD and I use a prescription wet diet to help manage it. My problem with raw food is the higher risk of endoparasites? Finally, I wanted to show this video to a student but felt it a bad example to allow your cat to eat the wet food out of a tin with sharp edges, near his eyes. May I suggest (which you probably do normally) that you dispense the contents of the tin onto a plate or bowl to demonstrate best practice. All the best, Georgiana

J Bird13 - It is a reply on one of the many comments here. 😉 But i copied it for you:
I feed our dogs and cats raw for over 15 years. Hence we only have seniors 😉 Our oldest cat passed away last year, she was 27 years.
We only grind the raw food for our cats and here is the recipe of the mix.
30% - 35% meaty bones (carcasses, and legs from small animals)
      - this means about 50% bone and 50% meat on the meaty bones)
      50% - 55% muscle meat
      about 15% organ meat:
      - 8% heart
      - 5% liver
      - 2% kidney
      All raw of course.
Use as many different animals as possible, but at least 4 to 5.
Bones: rabbit, chicken, duck, goose, other small animals. No cow, deer, big animal bones!
Muscle meat: beef, deer, turkey, etc
Organ meat: from any animal, but try to find grass fed or wild animal organs for at least liver and kidney.
Chop and grind. Add 4 raw egg-yolks and about 1300mg fish oil (per 1000 grams meat) to mix. Mix it thoroughly, make and freeze daily portions.
An adult cat needs about 30 grams per kilogram bodyweight a day. But always feed with you eyes. 😉

My one cat will only eat raw if I mix in a little bit of kibble. So I feed him Stella and Chewy's or Primal raw and mix in 1 tablespoon of kibble. I wish I didn't have to do this, but I've tried everything else or over a year, and this is the only solution he is willing to agree to eating.

As I have researched the Human diet for around 10 years I have come to a realisation that it is the gut microbiome that plays the most significance in good health and in particular a healthy immune system. Dry food given for years destroys a lot of good microbiome. Restoring a Cats diet to a more natural state will help broarden the range of microbiome present in the gut. So I give my Cats raw meat including wild rabbit the liver and kidneys their most favourite of all. Canned Sardines, Tuna & Salmon with juice. Canned Beef & Liver. A few Iams brand dry bics for heathly teeth but only about 20% overall. They have beautiful shinny coats and never is a problem picked up with annual checks. I often find raw meat People food is cheaper than Pet food due to the small quantities and unlike Pet food it has no added preservatives. Just break it down to smaller amounts and freeze it in small portions. Also I always warm Cat food to be warm to the touch. For them it will smell better and I never have leftovers as I give them smaller portions and they will come ask for more at times. Don't give them continuous food, I only feed twice a day 7am & 7pm. They need Intermitant fasting also improves gut health just like what happens in nature every day when there is no food available, keeps them trim and energetic.

I sent you a question a few weeks ago about my cat. I thought she had a hairball blockage. Turns out the vet thinks she has some kind of non-reversable condition in which the intestinal walls thicken and she's no longer able to absorb nutrients from anything she eats. She's eating and eating and I'm giving her small servings of everything from raw cut up free range chicken thighs and shrimp to canned tuna (no grain) and fish food...basically whatever she will eat. I add water to everything because she won't drink but will lap up broth in her food. I'm also administering some gel cortisone by ear (for appetite) and subcutaneous fluids every day. She's not in any pain...She gets around but no longer jumps up on things and every 2 weeks or so loses another ounce or so. She's a walking bag of bones. If you have any magic solutions to try lemmeno. Yes, I'm on your forum and will email you this also.

I agree.....except we have a rescue cat who cannot eat canned food. She'll throw up. Even the slightest amount makes her throw up. Barbara Davis By the way, since Petco has recently stopped having any products and foods that have anything artificial in them, they are discontinuing the regular fancy feast. However, that company has now released a different fancy feast food that doesn’t have the artificial stuff in it (found at Petco). It cost just a little more and the cats seem to like it. And it is a better quality. However, I still don’t think it’s as good as some of the other stuff out there that is organic, etc. But you might want to look for it. It seems that the pate seem to be a lot more agreeable for some cat, for some reason.

Both canned and dry cat foods are both heavily processed. In fact the dry moreso. A high quality premium canned food will be your best bet, which is like a step down from a raw (which is a species appropriate diet). You'd be looking at food with the highest meat content possible and minimal/no additional ingredients like sweet potato, peas etc.

Although I will say from experience dairy products have been too much for a cat I knew, like cheese and milk, it lead to an ear infection. So if your cat has too much mucus, or gets ear infections, or too lethargic, I would cut back to a couple times a week. But if they seem healthy ,it's probably fine. I don't think you need to worry about cholesterol if you are feed whole foods,.

My cat's fur is much better now that I give her grain free kibble, boiled eggs and raw meat and intestines. She pretends to hunt those kinds of food so it's funny how she tries to scare and hunt down boiled egg yolks and chopped liver 😂 She doesn't hunt kibble so I guess that's her way of telling me what is more natural for her ❤️

And she also drinks less water and poops less on this diet because I guess there's less waste in these foods

I’m trying to change my cat’s diet, but he just doesn’t eat what I put down. Canned food sometimes eaten but the next day no way, tried raw chicken recipe absolutely not even touched. So is it true if they get hungry enough they will eat what’s given. It seems my cat fills up on water. Sometimes I think he has a digestive problem but the vet doesn’t seem to think so.

My cat growls at is food, for him to eat I have to liquidize his food. Don't know if he have a dental problem or swallowing problem. Also have glands swollen both sides of is throat

My cat got worms from one little piece of raw chicken breast. Raw food parasites??? Plus i have fed my cat Rachel rays dry food and fancy feast. Then i heard RR cat and dog food isn't healthy and had recalls awhile. So I'm going to try wet food only what is best kind? My cat is super constipated and I give her a little bit of coconut oil. And she drink's alot of water still constipation. I'm going to have to get her sedated again to get her to the vet cause she is a wild meaner than a junkyard dog. I can't go in with her last time cause of covid. Most vets won't allow it. So, I asked for leukemia test and parasite in her poop test, and a blood test and urine test and whatever she needed to make sure she's okay i hope she hasn't got kidney disease or infection esp a disease. She's 5 tortoiseshell cat. And i love her like my daughter. So, i think I'll change vets not sure. He's suppose to be a good vet and cheaper than any of the other's. He forgot to check her kidney's and parasites. I even took her feces he visually looked only
So please give me some tips. Her pee in the litter box is huge at time's.

I is possible it was tapeworms from fleas- very unlikely from the chicken. Have them figure out what is causing increased drinking/urination

@@VeterinarySecrets ok yes i hope she's okay cause she stays hungry too. I don't know if it's out of boredom cause she acts like she need's a kitty friend. But I'm going to have to take her back to get her checked with a written list. She did have flea's a couple year's back and that's around the time i seen the white wiggly worm's. I don't want to sound dumb but i didn't know at the time that could happen. Thank you for your advice. I would rather have a once a month chewable to give her. But the vets give centra guard topical behind the neck. is that safe? I killed all those flea's on her careful of her eye's nose and mouth and on carpet with food grade Harris diatomaceous earth. It worked too

I suggest, you cut the meat into smaller pieces, so he can get a hold of it well. Cooked shrimp, cut up in small pieces, my cat loves that.

I thought that liver was supposed to be a very small percentage of a cats diet.
I watched another of your videos and it had peas and carrots mixed in. No, I think it was sweet potatoes. So, I'm not supposed to be giving vegetables, is that right?
    I'm so confused.
    Thanks for your videos, Doc❣️

Thanks Doc. Heard a lot of bad stuff about dry kibble for dogs now cats. Ahh! I know on all wet the poop is also very er....wet so I guess its a mix. Idk about our cats as my daughter has them upstairs but my shih tzu doesn't like raw food. Fpond out her coughing is from a narrowed trachea. I actually think my jackrat injured her years ago but we didn't know til now. He got his longass nose stuck under her collar when they were little. Damn near choked her to death. But she was OK after I saved her and settled her down....but she's old now. I never heard back from you about your supplement for my pittie on Apoquil. Had to refill his scrip. Sorry about Patreon. Big mess up this month. I am trying to fix it.🐾😻

My cat can only eat certain food. She's allergic to dyes. She'll eat wet, but if she let's it sit a few hours, and then eats it, she gets sick. Any dry kibble has to be without dyes.

So is feeding them raw chicken and raw ground meat ok? My cat will eat it, but I am nervous/unsure I am doing the right thing bc the bacteria. Her favorite is when we do fresh baked whole fish for ourselves and give her some. I also wonder if there are any veg/grains I should be adding to her diet? Just meat is ok? I figure she will catch a mole outside or eat grass outside if she needs those kinds of nutrients?

Murray should have been hungry for a better test.
I've 4 cats....they eat only patè canned food.
They have always had a huge variety of brands from Wellness, Merrick, Blue Buffalo and Pro Plan along with some others. My oldest now is 20+ yrs and has kidney failure. I try to find wet foods that are low in protein.
In your test u used Canidae wet and dry foods. In ur opinion thats the best canned food?
When my girls finish their wet food sometimes I give them a sm handful of Solid Gold dry food....they all know if they don't finish the wet they don't get any of the dry.
My vets have always told me to feed my older cats wet food low in protein. Seems most older cats die from kidney failure.
