Classic track and is solely the reason I’m a Joey Bada$$ fan til this day 🙌🔥🔥🔥. Also great to know Joey is doing his thing as an actor now which he’s not bad at doing, just talented all around 💯

Imo, the fact that Joey is taking the old school classic sound and morphing it with a personal and new school touch is far more respectable than just spitting over old school type beats which have already been heard (not saying that 1999 is bad, its one of the best mixtapes I've heard, I just believe this album is gonna genuinly FUCK SHIT UP from all sides). I don't understand how this hasn't jumped over 10m views yet. this was the first Joey song I ever heard. had this on a playlist back in 2012. I loved how he used the PAC sample. his pure talent was rare for a youngin on the come up in the rap shit at the time.
Had to come back to this classic after J Cole dropped his version. I don't know if it's because I listened to this so much that I became bias toward it, but this will forever be Joey's beat. Not to take away from J Cole's version cause he was spitting some real shit on there and I like the little chorus he added, but Joey's flow, lyrics, video matched this beat so flawlessly that made this the perfect song. Could listen to this for hours on end. After Cole, no one should rap on this ever again. Joey murdered it and Cole buried it. Period.
I first heard this song as a high school senior back in 2012 when it first came out. This song introduced me to Joey Bada$$ and eventually the rest of Pro.Era. Which then introduced me to Flatbush Zombies and The Underachievers. New York hip-hop is great, man.
Adam Grabowski Jay Z flew him out to meet him at the Rocnation headquaters to discuss music business with him. It was a good thing. Of course he would care, any musician would care if Jay Z randomly flew you out for meeting.
Adam Grabowski Umm because hove is a fucking legend maybe? His music may not be consistant to his older shit but when someone whos been so successful doing this and making one of the greatest albums of all time, tells you that you have a dope song-- i imagine brings on a damn good feeling...
Yeah bro he mentioned this in the Combat Jack interview. Did you hear the 2 new songs that were previewed from B4.DA.$$ "Blue Collar" and "Check My Style"?
Adam Grabowski Verse 2 of this track starts out with Joey saying he won't stop till he meets Hova(God or Jay-Z's other moniker in-case ya didn't know) and his momma in a Rover...listen...dammit....
Look, J. Cole did his thing on this beat for False Prophets, but this... THIS RIGHT HERE is an untouchable classic. Shouldn't even be up for discussion. Drop ya location if you want to debate this physically.
Kristian Kolev that's not what i meant, both of them stole the beat from Freddie Joachim without asking him. At least, i haven't heard either of them reference Freddie. If you know about either of them mentioning him for making the beat as an album release, i would like to know about it. (by the way, Freddie Joachim made this beat for himself, and the track is titled waves.)
I still come back to this ALL the time. That should tell you something. This will LIVE forever. Thank you Joey and also thank you Freddy Joachim for such a beautiful instrumental. I could listen to this beat ALL day and never get tired of it.
Man, 2012. Was a good year of ups and downs, but this song right here got me through it. Still does, Joey forever one of my favorites from beast coast!
I would kill to find a radio station (a legit one not Pandora/Spotify/etc...) that plays rap like this instead of constantly hearing "Anaconda" and all sorts of shit rap like that.

Period.
If Pac was alive im very sure that he would have been very proud of this guy.
he would be proud at allot of people TDE, Pro era, freddie gibbs to name a few
AguycalledRoel and me
***** And me and my homies! We no longer throw litter on the streets. We pop that shit straight in the trash can. One love... for the earth too man!
deez723 your comment has me dying !! Cx
I first heard this song as a high school senior back in 2012 when it first came out. This song introduced me to Joey Bada$$ and eventually the rest of Pro.Era. Which then introduced me to Flatbush Zombies and The Underachievers. New York hip-hop is great, man.
+weswagginout Flatbush is good though
+weswagginout But Joey smokes all of them make great music
+weswagginout bro you can't say underachievers aren't good, there dope as fuck. Herb shuttles is one of the most lit songs I've ever heard
This album is 10 years old. Still a timeless collecion
Savor of hip hop
So true
Yea, I like the way hip hop tastes too
Jay-Z said to Joey 'That waves track, that is it'. Imagine hearing that. Amazing stuff.
why would joey care bout what jay z thinks of his album?
Adam Grabowski Verse 2 of this track starts out with Joey saying he won't stop till he meets Hova(God or Jay-Z's other moniker in-case ya didn't know) and his momma in a Rover...listen...dammit....
he made a classic at age 17. incredible
Look, J. Cole did his thing on this beat for False Prophets, but this... THIS RIGHT HERE is an untouchable classic. Shouldn't even be up for discussion.
Drop ya location if you want to debate this physically.
Brandon Kidd come outside slick"
Brandon Kidd iight fuccboi. I got you, but first, lemme study for my finals coming up next week. Im tryna succeed in life.

I listen to this song everyday ...... Just to motivate me
Look at him now. Still throwing 🔥
Most consistent rapper I’ve ever came across. Rarely does he make something that isn’t loved by his fan base.
We STILL here in 2022! Stay focused and blessed everyone! 🙏🏽 keep fighting the good fight.
still love joeys version over coles, just way more vibes
Unknown 757 Facts.
i prefer the Freddie Joachim version of waves.
Cole made False Prophets on that beat way after Joey Made that song (both are amazing though)
Joey gave credit, its on the video description.
There just something about pro era’s videos that still slap in 2020
Quality lasts forever quantity fades
2023 and this song hold a special place in my life and saved me back in the day. Thank you Joey 🙏
Why? They'd be censored
SiriusXM is the best
Triple J- Australian radio station. They pump Joey Bada$$ all the time
I feel that one
They can't play this. This is backpack rap. It doesn't even have a chorus it's just rapping to a beat
Man I remember during my high school times. This was the song everyday
listening to a kid paint pictures like this while i was a kid I feel really helped me mature and grow mentally
4 years later cole blesses this fire beat too!!
troll?
no.
november 2019 still bumping this classic
When you got to re-listen to this to make sure Joey still went harder on this beat than Cole....
Leoven lol calm down nigga
+Leoven there's no competition it's all love chill fam
Opinion though, I just love Cole's delivery
sound even to me but joey is better
Under J.Cole videos of his new song using this beat I'm putting 'Joey Badass - Waves' so ppl will come back to listen to this.
This song takes me right back to being 11-12 years old. A timeless classic with such a nostalgic beat
Happy 4 year anniversary 1999
Respect.
