LYRICS
It is the night
My body's weak
I'm on the run
No time to sleep
I've got to ride
Ride like the wind
To be free again
And I've got such a long way to go
To make it to the border of Mexico
So I'll ride like the wind
Ride like the wind
I was born the son of a lawless man
Always spoke my mind with a gun in my hand
Lived nine lives
Gunned down ten
Gonna ride like the wind
And I've got such a long way to go
To make it to the border of Mexico
So I'll ride like the wind
Ride like the wind
Accused and tried and told to hang
I was nowhere in sight when the church bells rang
Never was the kind to do as I was told
Gonna ride like the wind before I get old
It is the night
My body's weak
I'm on the run
No time to sleep
I've got to ride
Ride like the wind
To be free again
And I've got such a long way to go
To make it to the border of Mexico
So I'll ride like the wind
Ride like the wind
And I've got a long way to go
To make it to the border of Mexico
So I'll ride like the wind
Ride like the wind
Gonna ride like the wind
Ride
Gonna ride like the wind
Gonna ride

ABOUT CHRISTOPHER CROSS
Christopher Cross burst onto the music scene with his 1979 self-titled debut album produced by Michael Omartian. The lead single “Ride Like The Wind” spent 4 weeks at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and was quickly followed up by Cross’ most popular single to date (and first #1 hit) “Sailing”, which later became known as the archetype for the Yacht Rock genre. In 1981, Cross became the first artist in Grammy history to win the “Big Four” most prestigious awards in a single night; Record of the Year (for the single “Sailing”), Album of the Year, Song of the Year (also “Sailing”), and Best New Artist. Later that year Cross released “Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do)” which he co-wrote with Burt Bacharach, Carole Bayer, Peter Allen, and was the title-theme for the 1981 film “Arthur” starring Dudley Moorre and Liza Minnelli. The song earned Cross his second #1 and the Oscar for Best Original Song at the 1981 Academy Awards. Cross’ sophomore album “Another Page” was released in 1983 and featured the singles “Think of Laura” and “All Right”. Cross has sold over 10M albums worldwide and his songs have been covered and sampled by NSYNC, Puff Daddy, Avant, Shirley Bassey, Dione Warwick, and many more.
Listening to Christopher Cross and Michael McDonald on this always puts me in a better place!
The Best !
Good music will always do that for sure!💫🎶❤️
Michael McDonald com uma humildade gigante participando até dos coros. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Like a fine wine, the older this song gets, the better it sounds, it's ageless!
Yeah compered to the trashy modern music of nowadays, yeah baby!
Can’t believe how great they both still sound
That's because it's real & every word you can see in your mind. Truly makes you wanna hop in your car & speed off.
We're so lucky that Michael McDonald's voice has hardly changed in 40+ years. It really is amazing.
This video is 23 years old, btw. But he does still sound great today
@@thenerktwins You're right I didn't realize this was old. They do look young for being released on Y. T. 3 days ago, thanks 👍
Michael McDonald stinks
This is ageless!
Finally Rick Beato can hear the outro 😊 ! Just had to stop what I was doing and listen to this....Thank you Cris
ha, I thought the same thang ! too funny.
One of the most underrated guitar solos in pop music.
@steffendass4169 So true! It's so buried in the mix on the debut album.
Why would they bury a great guitar solo? It should be up front.
@@Watching-h5r... Well it turns out.... Blazing guitar solos, and rock and roll, promote Western masculinity. According to the ayatollahs. And, toxic masculinity, according to the feminists. So, they're gradually phasing all of that out. Someday in the near future, you'll forget they even existed. And then I will get is..... Cardi b, and Taylor Swift...
Brought to you by Ticketmaster. And P-Diddy.
For a deeper analysis, Rick Beato did a video on the best guitar solo you never heard featuring CC's 'Ride like the Wind'. It's worth checking out. Cross' solo is smoking hot!
Timeless masterpiece. Damn, Chris is also an incredible guitarist!!
The album version of this song needs to be remixed to justify how good the guitar solo was and how good is Christopher Cross as a guitarist.
Indeed! I never knew it was him playing the solo. Always assumed it was a session musician.
Yeah, for so many years, I didn't know. I heard that out guitar-solo uncovered when Rick Beato featured it in one of his videos, and he recommended turning it up at the end so you can hear it.
Some years ago he appeared with America and did an absolutely ripping solo in the middle of a very extended Horse With No Name. It was really eye-opening.
You are right. Most of us thought someone else was playing the guitar. He sings so well we all think of him as just a singer
@@gordoh7634 Yes, the Rick Beato episode I think was titled "the greatest guitar solo you can't hear" because it was really mixed in pretty low-key. Rick has the separate tracks for this song so was able to play JUST the guitar part.
I love Christopher Cross. He and Michael did an awesome job!
Nice to see Chris up there. It had been probably 20 years since 'Sailing' and 'Ride like the Wind.' He had a great style.
The Album "Sailing" was launched in 1979. En los Grammys de 1980 recibió en una misma gala y por primera vez en la historia, los 4 premios principales: mejor grabación, mejor canción, mejor álbum y mejor artista novel. De este álbum destacan las canciones “Sailing”, “Ride Like the Wind” y “Never Be the Same”.
Try 40 years.
@@JohnSmith-gq9gn This happened in 2001 friend.
@Timothy-Lemm Yeah.Michael and Chris look like grandpas now.😊🥰
Two great songwriters together.
Superb vocal blend too.
Great stuff.
So many people have no idea what great guitar player Cross is!
Thank You Also Michael McDonald for Your Talents ! Love it ! ❤❤😊😊
This song is one of those song where you were like "nah" the first time but the second time you listen to it you're in love with it.
I always loved it.
I disagree the first time and every time there after it made the hair on my arms and neck stand up
Christopher Cross, truly an underrated great of our time.
Thank you so much Mr. Cross! You have no idea sir.
Thankful for that fateful southwest US roadtrip.
I have always loved this song along with Christopher Cross & Michael McDonald!!❤❤❤
What a band! The camera didn't spend much time on all the other band members, but I recognized Steve Gadd, Alex Acuña, Dave Koz, Bobby Shew, and Kim Carnes. And, I agree with others -- Chris can kick some major arse on guitar solos! Rip away, man!
Alan Parsons...
And Steve Porcaro
Kim Carnes, Bette Davis eyes ?
Steve Porcaro on Keys
@@nataliac.7863 Yes! 🙂
The band and backgrround singers understood the assignment!
A lot of people don't realize what a great guitarist Christopher Cross is.
he's my cousin. A Geppert.
Stevie Ray Vaughn bought his first guitar from him. Amazing! I agree Chris is a great guitarist.
Absolutely fun to see and hear this! All on stage nailed their performances. Loved the backing vocalists' punchy harmonies. Thanks Chris!
Its a miracle..my blood pressure just left the building..no medication but this phenom is needed..🇨🇦
Both those gentleman have given so much joy to the world with their talent. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and bless you.
C. C. is an underated guitar player. In a longer version of this song it's apparent 🎸
I had the good fortune to see Mr. McDonald in concert, oh, about 20-years ago or so. Such an incredible singer and song writer.
My husband and I saw Michael McDonald in concert as well unbelievable!❤
I've seen Christopher Cross twice 💫1st time was a no alcohol concert in Branson, before they made the Branson landing and a free concert at the Jordan Valley park in Springfield, Missouri 🦩I'm a huge fan of both Christopher Cross and Micheal Macdonald ✌️💙🤩
best guitar solo you can barely hear
Agree! Recorded version, too ... Rick Beato does a nice job isolating that guitar sound in one of his videos. Really is a nice solo.
Still can’t hear it. Turn off the backing vocals and let’s hear his solo. Damm
Yeah, indeed, the background singers drowned out the solo, Ugh!!
He's doing pretty well as far as I can tell as far as the guitar solo is maybe you should turn your phone up
@@kellypatterson2537yeah Rick played it but seeing it is so much better.
it is such pure pleasure to hear Michael McDonald and Chris! Wonderful!
*The Music Never Dies- Still has the glitter and the sparkle ❇️‼️👌💯*
Some of the best music of my childhood starting in the seventies for me
Finally, the best rock solo you never get to hear is finally heard..... 🙂 Great music from great musicians and singers, from a great era
I'm a rocker slash heavy metal dude, but this shit I've been loving since my childhood....... I'm 49
I'm 48, grew up with Boston, Sabbath, Ozzy, KISS, Metallica, Maiden, GNR, AIC, Scorpions, Head Bangers Ball, etc etc in my room. But I also heard Motown, '70s Singers & Writers, Outlaw country, Yacht rock, 80s soft rock, Synth Pop, etc from my parents and much older sister.
It all creates a purer sound pallet. Nobody interesting just listens to one genre. Even our Thrash and heavy heroes grew up on much different music than what they themselves play.
@Resistculturaldecline I agree 💯 growing up I also heard lots of music from my parents & older siblings. That's why I love VERY diverse genres of music. My playlists would confuse anyone. 😄🎶🎤
Last year just for fun we went to see 2 of my mom's favorites, Johnny Mathis & Barry Manilow. Both actually gave VERY impressive shows, even at their age their voice and energy is very high quality and quite impressive. 🙏🏻
Same, 55 here, grew up in the Upper Mississippi River Valley of SE Minnesota. I don't even own a Yacht and blast some Yacht Rock🤘 Michael Mcdonald is a machine💪
Out of all his songs this is my favorite. This is what I call a story song...you can see it happen in your minds eye as you listen. Well done. 🎉🎉🎉
Love this song. I would crank up the radio everytime it came on!!!
Such talent, and such a great song. And yes, I stayed for the solo! 🎸🔥🤘😍
I grew up listening to this man since the 70s i love him so much named my kid after him. Christopher cross. ❤❤❤❤

Mike has his own voice in is own category
This is one of my favorite songs
Chris Cross was in a band called Heather Black in Houston, TX in the 70s. I met him at a joint called "Village Inn Pizza" in the Montrose area. He played a Les Paul Custom (Black Beauty) and he tore it up. He's a very underrated guitarist, and his lead on RLTW (original recording) was so buried in the mix that it's a sin. What an amazing first album he made.
This song is so nastalgic. This remind me of my childhood..This song would be playing in every store on Fordham road in the Bronx Ny while we did our first day of school shopping
yacht rock at its finest. those gorgeous vocals by michael mcdonald and that solo by christopher cross. dude can wail on the guitar!
I'm glad he made sure to include the solo at the end!@
This song has SUCH a great groove...the bassist and drummer are as tight as a gnat's you know what!
Fantastic performance and solo break was amazing
The level of musicianship in this performance is insane, pure pleasure to my ears
Einfach immer noch ein toller Song.
These two guys are Great. The belong in
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Quite a statement to have an artist the caliber of Michael McDonald comfortable in this backup role, augmenting Chris but not at all stealing his limelight.
The best music and decade I’m so glad this was my childhood 😮
You and me both, theres thousands like us out there, Happy holidays, stay safe.
@ thanks you as well
The greatest drummer, percussionist and singer of the 80s.
Love the memories this brings up. Love you guys!!! ❤
Another of the great ones that Rick Beato has helped people to recognize.
Two amazing voices together are untouchble! Great duo live performance. Awesome!
The best.....lovin it from Toronto Canada 🇨🇦
Y'all made my night! Much love Chris & Michael ♥
Cross and Mcdonald compliment each other
McDonald compliments everyone.
Beautiful harmony.
Michael McDonald had/has a voice that always melded with everyone/group he played with!!!!! He did more for others, before and after DB's.
I love the music of Christopher Cross. ❤
Thank gosh just beautiful music without auto tune. Loved this collaboration with the entire team.

Underrated legend.
Amazingly gifted artists! Think about this....they each have been entertaining us for 50+/- years!!! A combined 100 years of talent! And they sound as good, if not better than ever!!!! Not to mention....looking fantastic!
