After seeing the fun videos full of fashion inspo from Ellbat (I Hired a $200 Stylist and $20 Stylist to Dress Me for a Week) and Mia Maples (I Hired 3 Stylists with Different Aesthetics to Style Me), we’ve decided to test the world of online personal stylists for ourselves. Today we’re testing Fiverr vs Stich Fix to see if any of these digital personal stylists are worth it. What is the cost? Can Ai really determine what we should wear? And can we actually find a new look in this process? C’mon, get ready with us as we try on a whole new wardrobe!

Honestly, them standing together in those outfits is definitely giving Steph Pat and Matthew.
I find it quite funny that the second Stitch-Fix outfit for Stephanie is literally just the classic MatPat outfit, red jacket and all. I doubt that the folks at Stitch-Fix are aware of him, which just makes this cosmic coincidence that much more interesting to me! I'm surprised that it wasn't mentioned in the video.

I was once gifted Stitch Fix for a year. I hated it. It took them months to realize that I hated sweaters, and by the end of the year, they had still not managed to give me anything that I actually liked despite me giving feedback every month. Very ick experience.
more like stitch ick!

Isn’t it supposed to be a white polo?
It's a white polo, it only looks khaki due to the lighting.

14:42 As a Fashion student, I have been taught that "Premium" means a brand that has a higher price point, sometimes almost the same as a luxury brand, however, it does not have any luxury aspects in its marketing and communication strategies! Some better-known examples are Isabelle Marant and Loewe
Gucci is not Premium but instead Luxury, mainly because of the heritage of their fashion house that they use as part of their marketing. (And heritage is one of the key defining factors of a luxury brand😉)
I'm not even a fashion student but I have hears something like that too before.
E
Both MatPat and Steph's second StitchFix outfits were somehow pulled from the alternate universe where MatPat did quit theater and became a professor and Steph was the one to start Game Theory!
A look into a Alter Universe
the part where the editor zooms in on the bright orange jacket was gold
FR THO, THEY WERE LIKE, HOLD UP🧐DO I SEE....ORANGE🤔
Orange not gold

Even better when Steph was holding the orange jacket, dropped it, and held the yellow one too say that it's orangey. 😂
Like, neither of them are colorblind, right? Right?? 😂🧡
Stephanie’s last outfit would match well with MatPat’s red jacket look
just wanna point out after that outfit, the cut scene was a matpat doll with almost if not same (dark inner clothing with red jacket) top (cuz the bottom part was covered) but yeah, very cute and matching
17:08 I'm with you, editor... the orange jacket is /literally/ right there and she grabs a mustard / yellow one to say it's close to orange.... wut?
Mat Pat and Steph realizing they might be colour blind via Editor's note.
I figured it looks red IRL😅 lots of screens read in between shades as more one way than another and red-orange looks more orange on every camera ive ever used
@@mangakoibitochan I was wondering if the color was off... UNTIL the editor did the thing, then I was like... yeah, ok, that one IS orange. 😝
Plus I would think the editors use the color wheel/clapper color correction technique to get accurate color, so that all colors are accurately represented in video.
I do think the colors are off. During the Stitch Fit outfit Steph liked she mentioned green, but I didn’t feel like there was any green on screen
I can't even see that being red in real life, the red jacket is right there, and the yellow jacket is also right there, the orange one fits perfectly in-between in terms of shade. That's 100% orange.

Steph's outfit at 23:30 shockingly accomplished the legs for day look on her. She looks taller with this one.
It doesn’t, all that loose fabric weighs her down.
Seeing Mats colors being organized ROYGBIV style makes me very happy. I also subscribe to this style of organization.
This makes me realize my wardrobe is almost entirely black, grey, white, and blue.
As someone who wants to look like an elfen faerie king isekai'd into a midwestern mall, I can commiserate with MatPat's frustration with the limitations of men's fashion right now.
In my opinion mostly a "mind" problem, nothing wrong with shopping in the female section as a male or the other way around. The only thing that matters is, that it fits and that you yourself like it.
Know a lot of man that wear woman jeans, cause they are cut better, while a lot of woman look for man jeans, cause woman jeans lack real pockets.
And especially when you look for colorful or bright, you often don't find it in the male section.
I relate to this on a spiritual level
as a guy who is very short and likes dressing a bit more androgynously, I've given up and just look to the women's section now, mainly for pants
I'm 6'4" and aspire to have that casual elvish prince look myself, but mens clothing suuuuuuucks and is painfully limited.
Fenn wenn my beloved
so based on the dress… is Steph a critter now or is Amy the true stylist of this video 👀
E
I hope it’s both!
I thought it looked familiar! I cant believe it took this comment to realize she was in the Laudna dress
BRIZZYVOICES?!? HUHHHH?!?!
I came to the comment section the SECOND i saw that dress! Bidet!
Steph last outfit with the red jacket looks like Mathew iconic style with his red jacket; same outfit!
YEAH THEY COULD MATCH NOW
And it totally works for her.
I'm so happy to see an honest review of Stitch Fix! I ordered from them a few years ago asking for an outfit I could wear on my birthday and they sent me athleisure!
The fact that stephs second outfit from stitchfix looks exactly like mats iconic outfit is insane 32:34
I mean, Matpat did end up becoming a professor. He became our professor from things like food, gaming, movies and style to being the chillest dude. Keep up the great work and have a great day.
Gosh the "job" section was just that final drop on how bad that stitch fix site thingy, also Steph being an absolute boss!
I love the idea of Professor Pat. I feel like he would either be crushed by academia, or be THE professor that everyone takes a class with because he makes life that much more enjoyable.
He is a professor in theoreticall style, game, film and food science on TH-cam and sadly will be retiring.
The thing that's funny is that I do get why they would ask that question, my guess for why certain jobs weren't there is because those aren't their normal clients, because your occupation does modify your preferences. I am however bothered that they just assume that only matters for women and that men will be the same in their preferences regardless...
I'm a guy I was asked the same question... it may have to do with how few selections he made
Yeah the C Suite point was a nothing burger. C Suite isn’t an industry- it was a list of industries. 🙄
17:02 This has got to be the funniest editor-interjection on a Theorist video ever. There is quite literally an orange _right there!_
That's what I was thinking. I was like "wait a minute? Am I color blind because I see an orange there." 😂
It probably looks more red in person. In fact the yellow they pulled out saying it was kind of orangey didn’t look close at all which probably means it too looks more red in person.
Yes orange
The one she picked looks yellowy orange to me. Like quite literally the same color as a not fully ripe orange. The one I'm guessing you guys would pick as the orange looks more reddish to me.
I just about lost it when I heard the "huh?" Literally the best editor-interjection I've seen thus far.
Well done bringing to light a gap in the industry when it comes to men's fashion! As a straight man comfortable in my masculinity, I'm always at odds with clothing retailers and second hand shops trying to find colorful pieces that work with my staples. I hadn't realized just how much I find myself aligning with what your preferences are, being color and structure. I can recognize that as much as I'd love to be able to wear more pastels and soft colors, the tone of my skin just happens to be complimented better by darker more solid colors. Not much I can do about that. I'd at least like more creative options in terms of available clothing tho.
I love how steph says "this feels like a different universe stephanie" my mind went straight to the universe if steph started game theory
I'm not sure, but I think what Catherine (or AI equivelant) might have done is taken your colour preferences, and then darkening it a bit for the winter/autumn feel. Still colourful, but more suited for the seasons. And IF this is the case, that is a VERY nice detail
I’m a guy whose used stitch fix in the past. I specifically remember that premium brands question. Either they’ve changed the survey for guys or one of your answers prompted it to not be asked
I took the survey last night for funsies after watching this video and they asked me the same question on the men's survey aswell.
I didn’t see the big deal until it asked about her job. I just thought it was weird.
@@brandonklotz1207 it's possible they asked so they would know if she'd prefer more office wear, maybe if she worked in a corporate environment but they should have asked Mat the same question
Ok but like. . . Steph in the red denim jacket made me immediately think of her being in an alternate timeline where she ran the channels while Mat stayed in the background

17:08
That was the best part of the video. „Huh?“
I‘m cracking up 😂😂😂
THAT WAS ONE OF THE FUNNIEST THINGS IVE SEEN IN THIS SPECIFIC CHANNEL IN A WHILE LOL
I think the problem with StitchFix, from when I tried it, was that they have limited (internal?) brands to pull from, and they opt for muted palettes even if they are colorful, which in my opinion allows them to lean SAFE even when they’re presenting you with new pieces. For me it also leaned just to femme (even though I’m cis female) and it never moved away from that aesthetic. I think you guys highlighted that binary very well in your questionnaire segment. The pieces I did like from my boxes and purchased I ultimately barely wore because even if I liked them they never quite fit the way I wanted them to. I’m bigger than Steph though avg height, and the general female cuts just don’t fit my proportions comfortably. Either too large and slouchy or just small enough to feel like I wanna hulk out at my shoulders. Fashion can be so frustrating but I do believe that when you find a brand you like and that fits well, it’s great to stick with them. Thrifting is also such a great way to find a specific style without many “replicas” but the downside is, the pickings are whatever your area has to offer. Interesting video can’t wait for part two!
Between MatPat's Ken core and Steph rocking that Laudna shirt dress, it's clear that their style is already peak.
I have a similar problem as Matt in the opposite direction. My ideal style is what I call "executive goth", where I really like snazzier, darker clothing but I also like patterns and pops of dynamic color. Think of Taliesin Jaffe from Critical Role. But finding pieces that I like is so difficult. Most of the store fronts catering the goth crowd look like they're run by Kingdom Hearts characters.
They simply opened the door to darkness. Xehanort has been a fashion designer since he lost to Sora.
@@MegaMew204Lmaoooo imagine being styled by the Seeker of Darkness 😂
I'd recommend 80-90s era prom suits. They have lots of dynamic patterns and colours, there's also the option of DIY if you find a nice jacket and have it tailored.
The discrepancies with men’s fashion questions and women’s fashion question is wild, im really glad that I watched this video because I thought about doing one of those online style quizzes but now I’m more comfortable going through Pinterest and liking certain outfits, creatively trying to use what I own and have and make something really unique and fashionable. But still myself. This was a fun watch I’m gonna miss you guys.
I think it's pretty presumptive to assume it's because of gender difference. I had a buddy (male) who got asked very similar questions using the same service. It probably has to do with how you answer the first few questions especially considering that it's an algorithm design to find "personality" from your questions
@gordonshumway1857 It might be a bit of that but how do you explain the different wording in the price bit?

I want to give some quick insight on Stitch Fix, as my mother works for them (I was excited to see if maybe she was one of your stylists - she wasn’t - ). They’ve been implementing AI into almost the entire process, down to having an AI system pre-write the personalized message as a suggestion for the stylists to use. The algorithm is a strict system that’s used based on warehouse inventory, and sometimes even limits what the stylist gives you based on your preferences from that survey. That inventory…often is pretty lackluster and severely limits what your stylist can give you. And I have personally seen that there are some very colorful stuff in there! But the STYLIST is who ensures the outfits chosen for you are best suited for where you are located and the current season. And yeah…their stuff is expensive, even if you choose ‘the cheaper, the better’. But the stylists are definitely worth at least seeing what they think would suit you that you might not think of choosing yourself. And Stitch Fix has actually expanded my horizons in terms of fashion, mainly just watching my mother work when I visit and the maybe 3 times I ordered my own box years ago
Insightful comment. Thx for sharing
32:43 Stephanies second outfit from stitch fit is like if you took MatPats iconic outfit tones it down slightly and made it for a girl
Oh man, Steph’s commentary on stitch fix was amazing
19:13: Credit where it's due: Married couples often have such similar style choices that it can be hard for an outside source to generate separate style options that can be identified for either party ... especially given the rise of unisex options in recent years!
3:16 was NOT expecting to see the Detective make a subtle return like that.
I agree on you guys having to research around more for a Fivver stylist. It seemed they were just experts in variations of Korean street wear and "trying" to tailor it to your specifications, nothing wrong with that style it just seemed that's what they were dialed in on and you needed to find someone who would be more knowledgeable in all fashion types.
I've read a few comments on trying to fins specific fashion in boxes but ultimately in the end its gonna take more on your own part to find the things you like from different places. Stitch Fix has certain fashion trends in mind in their algorithms that can fit anyone in any type of setting, the styles won't be extreme, they're safe/normal, which isn't bad, if you don't really know how to dress very well or lack color coordination, clothing pair ups it will definitely help elevate an average Joe in their style.
This isn’t not an ad for Game Theory Clothes but honestly for a person who watches TH-camr like TH-camr “merch” because lately designs have been settle and better quality than standard clothing. And video show it a few times like Steph wearing cloak sweatshirt in beginning and wearing the black dress shirt from critical role (I see that Launda design and it beautiful) and Matt showing his collection of rainbow jackets from their own line. Matpat, your closet looks like my entire room (closet included)! With so much color and quirky patterns I have also heard comments about a lack of order or cohesiveness in my wardrobe and room. But darn it, I love color and that won't be changing anytime soon!
I feel you, Matt. I am always the most colorful dressed man in the room. And the most accessible colorful mens clothing available is Hawaiian shirts, button ups or polos. So now I own like 100 of them, and probably in at least 50 different colors. And since I live in Florida, I have all the colors of shorts. First of all, I just got the oversized theory wear sweater while watching this, right now! And I love it.
Second; at 20:29 I think that shirt could have been cool on Mat if it was more colorful. Or had some colors at all.
I personally would have liked that shirt, I would use it as a summer jacket over something with colors on.
16:03 Is that occupation question not more 'what industry are you in' though? It doesn't specify a low-level job in the industries listed..?
I think this episode is a call for masculinists in the world of fashion. I knew there are male fashionistas out there, but I'm talking about ones who fight for equal fashion choices.
20:19
I think that looks like something I would wear. I'm female, btw. That being said, I think it looks better with the green jacket.
30:20
Ooh! I like that one! Maybe not with those pants, though. I think they're the wrong color with that shirt.
32:34
That's a much better combo! Looks like something you could wear in the autumn, drinking you pumpkin spice latte while surrounded by fall-colored leaves!
17:09 my thoughts exactly, although I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and suppose it's really an orange-adjacent red that's been messed up by the camera settings (either that, ot they have a different, more yellowy, concept of "orange").
Jerika's edits are really funny, always a fan she looks really internet knowing.
I felt stephs anger when stitch fix asked Steph abt her oppcation 😡
I find it really silly to act like we don’t understand how that question is relevant when styling women. It’s not stitch fix’s fault that soceitally we kind of have to dress for our environment in that way and if you’re trying to determine our style, our occupation is a very useful thing to know.
@@D-Fritz But then wouldn't that question be important to ask men as well? Also I think the issue was that it didn't offer any high position job options.
okay but whty doesnt that job include ceos or entrepreneurs @@D-Fritz ? and what about men, why didnt they ask mat what type of job HE was in? you're just making excuse up for obvious sexism
Actually, I can get the occupation question, it changes your mindset and preferences. The fact that it asked her and not MatPat is what's off though because it shows that they don't think that men ever have the same change in perspective
@@lillianabright03 The lack of those jobs is obviously problematic, though it could be an assumption that those in said position would use a more expensive option due to the increase in pay, but the fact that males aren't asked the question is ridiculous, but not from the perspective of sexism against women, but because the whole thing furthers the point that they just assume men only want one type of look, regardless of anything like how a job changes your mindset.
I could honestly picture Mat and Steph in classic 70s silhouettes and trends, being colourful and having awesome patterns while still keeping a fitted and somewhat professional look, I'm thinking blouses and sweater vests and some bellbottoms! :)

Y’all should do a style theory of ice could work as clothes 😭 I know it’s a silly theory but in Disney’s frozen Elsa throughout the series is constantly changing her clothing and color of clothing with just her ice powers I thought it’d be a little neat idea to expand on 😅 (ignore my nonexistent grammar)
ooh, can I second this and add other highly decorative materials? what about clothes made of glass, or decorative metal? there are so many cool fantasy options, though I'd definitely watch an episode about ice clothes!
32:58 Steph looks like if she started wearing matpat’s red coat
23:50 it just feels weird being super bummed about there not being enough color and theen immediately cut to Mat standing in his own black T-shirt and Grey jacket
Tbh it does suit him more than the fivers
23:09 the second matpat fiverr outfit is so normal it makes him look tired and overworked.
bro and i thought he FULLY retired but he is still here THIS BRINGS ME HAPPINESS
I’m AMAB non-binary and I usually dress very like alternative and goth. I tried using stitch fix when I was younger and looking for more style options and it was dreadfully bad. Like I’m talking “I just generally want something more professional looking in my area of style,” using Taliesin Jaffe as a style reference and the only things I kept at all were a knit sweater hoodie, another sweater, and a jacket I liked because it was plaid and looked pretty alt while still being professional. It really felt like “If I had the money, I could easily just go to a retail store like J C Penny or Target and find what I want myself.” They also have absolutely no concept of what a more androgynous style is.
I love that the title for this video actually allowed the big point in the content to be a surprise, made my personal viewer retention much higher since the whole plot wasn't in the clickbait title, there was something for me to stick around for.
So excited for part 2!
4:57 I tried one of those things, but there were no options that came out of it that I liked even a little bit. I do have a form of «alternative» style though, I guess
NO ONE ASKED
@@Official_Star.Inc87_ALT3 Input from any source, especially from a user of the service of topic is a great comment to leave on a video of this sort. If anything the video in itself asked
@@Official_Star.Inc87_ALT3 As someone that has an ✨ alternative ✨ style, I find this info very useful.
You are correct that nobody asked, but it's basically implied by the existence of the video that these are the comments that should be here
@@Official_Star.Inc87_ALT3 No one asked you to click the video.
