A lesson learned for all of us about how hard people have to prepare to survive through winter with a family off grid or if something ever happened and the grid went down. It would actually be harder since most stores would sell out quickly. I guess it is good to be prepared at all times.

I totally agree with your concern about the woodstove in the summertime. What I do is I have a summer kitchen separate and outside. Many countries still have summer kitchens. Some people that I watch on TH-cam that are off grid have summer kitchens.

Pulled pork is great on a baked potato with onion, butter, sour cream, the works makes a filling meal. The tacos looked awesome. You guys do an awesome job cooking meals in the middle of no where. Your children have grown up to be really independent adults. Stay safe and healthy.

i remember when i was young we had a cottage in sturgen bay we were on a island and we had no hydro at first and we had to lug those 100 pound tanks up to the cottage but latter they put hydro on the island

Might I suggest getting a wood burning oven/stove and keeping the propane one for summer/warm weather use. I think y'all did a great job on estimating wood consumption. While you may have had to split more kindling you still had it available. As Dan and Pete can attest splitting wood helps warm ya up! As always such a great video and thanks again!

Outside kitchen for the summer that’s what a lot of people here in America used to do way back to keep the house cool they had an outside kitchen then you don’t cook in the cabin

Living in the deep south I never appreciated winter until well in to my adult life. I’m an outdoor girl and can rarely find me indoors. I love everything about spring and summer except mosquitoes, they seem to love me, in fact they wait outside my door for me to step out.

What you need to cook in the summer is a summer kitchen, a stove that's in a small building away from the main building, basically a roof without walls to keep the rain off.

Sounds great!
Something you may look into for the summer months of cooking is an induction stove plate. I've seen a few of the Australian TH-camrs getting away from the propane/butane stoves in favor of the induction setup for their rigs. With your battery setup, I would think that might be a viable option. For countertop anyhow. And as always, thanks for another great video!

I remember the old cabin no insulation waking up at 5 am 36 degrees ran out of fuel 32 degrees out side was a heat wave for sure , wouldn't trade that life for nothing , now cabins gone fancy high dollar log home with big tax,s state loves that , leason to be learned stay simple all the best

Since you heat primarily with wood(so do i) why are you useing so much kindling? I havent let my stove go out in 3+ months. I have used about one 5gal bucket of kindling since december.
I guess we let the fire go out a few too many times.

I just heard of an electric water heater by Rheem™ that heats water with a heat pump. It is designed for off grid systems. Not sure how much it is or how efficient it is.

The bible teaches us not to eat pork and other such non-defined as food things. In Rev it also shows how it keeps people from the Kingdom of Yah, essentially.
Sounds like your wood stove isn’t very efficient. A newer more efficient stove would burn up to 30% less wood and leave enough coals in the morning to where you wouldn’t need to rekindle the fire, just throw more wood on and take right off.

So what kind or brand of more efficient wood stove do you suggest? This question is for the person who suggested a newer more efficient woodstove. Mine was stolen two years ago and right now I am using some old one that I picked up at the landfill site's scrap metal pile.
@@billybrand lots of great brands out there. I burn a Jotul F45 and it has great burn times,good cooking surface and clean glass. Drolet is probably the best bang for you buck if your looking for a good efficient stove at a reasonable price. Other good brands are Lopi, Pacific Energy and Blaze King.
