I secretly feel like Linus spies on what I am currently in the market for... I start looking at cars, videos of latest car tech comes out, now here with the Adaptive Cruise Control that i've been wondering about... Linus, I love you.
Since cruise control has become adaptive, and you can't turn that part off, I never use it anymore. I should be able to rely to do one simple thing: that it is keeping the speed I want. Keeping distance I can do myself, indeed by changing the speed on the cc.
My mom's car has the sensors on the back that tell when you get to close to another vehicle or object. Very helpful feature, although I would still advise using it combination with the rear view mirror.
i've been using adaptive cruise for more than a year.. and i have felt the pos/cons of the technology i many driving situations: Pros: 1- of course it liberate you from managing your speed and cruise control every time someone slower than you moving front you.. 2- it's nice that you can look more at your surroundings while driving.. because you relay on this technology to slowdown when something comes ahead of you.. the nice thing is even when you are distracted.. as soon you feel the car slowed down, it will help you pay attention to road again! 3- it's so ideal in medium traffic wide city roads with medium city speeds, so if you live in these areas.. this system is perfect for you! 4- a must have option for unskilled drivers or for old people.. it could save their lives! Cons: 1- in many cases in highway and interstate drives , there are so many bad drivers out there.. there are alot of idiots who drive slowly on the fastest lane.. you will feel that you are trapped behind a slow driver and your car just obeys their speed...sadly your car won't go close enough to make the driver front you open the way for you and i don't thing ever this technology will evolve to get a bit closer to other drivers.. (for safety and such).. i found my self pressing gas often to make my car get closer so the other drivers move away!!! they won't move away while you are far from them! 2- As your car stuck behind a slow car.. another car behind you wants you to open up the way for it to pass, and it's stuck on your tail.. many drivers still uses old normal cruise controls, they tend to requests drivers to move away from fast lane because of how slow your car and the one front you are driving. i found my self switching lanes going left and right because of that slow car front me. these bad drivers are headache in highway.. and in some cases disabling the cruise control because the lane i want to switch to has even more slow cars and i don't want the car to panic and hit brakes! .. it defeats the purpose of this technology.. 3- i already trust the technology in terms of it's safety.. while driving 140km/h or more.. but at same time at that high speed, the the stakes are higher.. and i know the car will hit the brakes if anything goes wrong.. sadly i came to hate that idea of pushing the car into tight situations that may end up causing the car to panic and hit the break.. you don't want whoever with you in the car to jump off their seats when the car hit the break.. no way... obviously this technology won't be as good as skilled human driver . so i end up disabling the system to deal with tight situations until the road clears up a bit.. again it defeats the purpose of this technology.. SO should you get adaptive cruise control??.. the answer is.. it depends on where you live and where you go.. if you live in low traffic city and you don't hit highway rarely, this tech won't be as a life changer to you! if you have so many bad drivers in your city.. maybe it's good idea to just drive the car in your own..
I wouldn't mind seeing a Techquickie on impedance. I know it was briefly discussed in the speaker wire video, but a more in depth look would be interesting and appreciated. Thanks for the continually great content!
Great video. I just got a new auto with adaptive cruise. But I bought it for the safety features. Collision avoidance. It does brake when it thinks you are going to hit something. And I got blind spot detection. It warns you when something is in your blind spots. And it beeps to warm you of issues. Great features. I feel safer. As I do not make as many dumb mistakes
@@allan1062 hahaha. If someone pulls out in front of you going slower the adaptive cruise brakes to slow down. And then automatic speeds up when you are clear Obviously you don't have adaptive cruise on your vehicle
Adapative Cruise Control became standard on the Toyota Corolla for the 2017 model year. They call it Dynamic Radar Cruise Control because it uses a radar which is behind the Toyota logo on the grill. This is just one several safety features standard as part of Toyota's Safety Sense pacakage. www.toyota.com/safety-sense/animation/drcc
the best part about ACC is when you are passing a car going around a curve and the warning lights flash and your car brakes hard "thinking" you are about to hit something. Didn't need any coffee that morning.
That's funny, I've been searching to buy my first car these past few days, and I'm looking at getting a car with adaptive cruise control. Cool video :)
Idk if every cruise control has this, but mine has plus and minus buttons that change your speed by 1 mph every time you click it. So if you are coming up on someone pretty fast, just click it 5-10 times, lowering your speed by 5-10mph.
How do similar Radars not confuse each other As Fast as Possible. If all cars start using Radars, how does the radar know what beeps are his or from others?
Question for Linus: not so long ago you did a Techquickie on radar speed controls and people buying stuff to interfere with it to avoid getting caught (spamming signals so it can't tell the real and fake signals apart). Would that also interfere with the radar system these cars would us for Adaptive cruise control?
I'm not sure if yo have done one or not but I would appreciate a fast as possible video on wired vs wireless such as headsets, mice and keyboards. mention of Bluetooth as well. thanks
Do a Techquickie on CAR RADAR DETECTORS, some have digital mapping and GPS as well as Forward and Aft antennas (to aid in source disambiguation) .... there are several YT channels dedicated to testing Car Radar Dectors as well ...
+edwii123 It's a group of people. They make vids on 3 of their own channels. They are sometimes funny. They're running out of ideas fast, but make 200 segments. You're welcome.
Question - Why do video games need updated drivers from AMD/Nvidia? If a game was developed on the latest and greatest video card hardware with the latest firmware/drivers for said graphics card, what's the purpose of coming out with newer drivers by the video card manufacturer?
So im going to build a new pc very soon. These are the parts im going with Motherboard - Asus maximus viii hero Cpu - i7 6700k paired with a corsiar h100i v2 liquid cooler Ram - 16gb`s Of Corsair vengeance lpx ddr4 3000mhz Gpu - Two R9 390 In crossfire Psu - Corsair rmx series rm1000x What do u guys think?
I wonder what is your education Linus. I'm learning these things in my university like network design, difference between various PC components and much more u discuss here.
Unless your buying a fully loaded Camry the last thing to add is adaptive CC and its only 900 bucks. But there was only one in the fucking country when I was buying my car. I should have just not bought it for that reason.
I work on trucks everyday that have these systems. They have fault issues on a daily basis. On average the systems reset themselves while being driven about 4 to 5 times a day. One of the biggest issues they have is called ghost breaking. Basically nothing in front of the vehicle, and the brake lock up and bring the vehicle to a stop. I would never have this on a car that I own. Stop being lazy and drive the car yourself.
I bought a 2023 Jetta sport manual and I was pissed that mine did not have the adaptive cruise control and lane assist option, but maybe I lucked out. It sounds like these systems are not all that reliable and probably crazy expensive to repair. Apparent it is either adaptive or nothing also.
Brake?1 Did you know that adaptive cruise control uses the brakes on your car to slow down? It's like car manufacturers haven't heard about shifting down.
Ok so I am a complete computer noob, I don't know anything about them, but I do enjoy games. My computer recently started shutting off after showing a black screen for a while and the fans going crazy. This happens whenever I play pretty much any graphics intense game. I read about it online, and found out it was probably due to overheating, and sure enough i found out that my graphics card was reaching up to 105 degrees celsius when playing games. So I tried cleaning the inside of my computer from dust, but that didn't make any difference. I recently tried underclocking my stuff aswell, but that too was futile. Please help! D: (I do have a pretty decent computer aswell, and it should be able to run most games)
+DDDE44 Many Cameras can do 4k 30FPS but for 60 FPS they would need to decrease the resolution which would mean the image would look worse at high resolution screens ... it's funny how self driving cars are a thing now and we thought they were years away from us 6 years ago
Finally, a car related tech quickie.
Semis have had these for a while now. it's definitely far from perfect.
That's funny, I've been searching to buy my first car these past few days, and I'm looking at getting a car with adaptive cruise control. Cool video :)
Linus you forgot to mention lane keep assistant (LKA)...thats also a part of Radar cruise control😉
Just as a side note, I checked out FreshBooks and it's absolutely Fantastic! Perfect for our small business :)
0:10 adaptive cruise control is the closest thing we have to autonomous vehicles?
But what about the Tesla Series?
those are not completely autonomous
+Tech12 Computers Yet they have more features then that he listed, like auto-stir and auto lane changing (look it up)
Tech12 Computers I know its not. but i'm pretty sure it's much closer than autonomous vehicles than adaptive cruise control, no?

Adaptive cruise control - why pay attention when you can pay cash?
PS - Real men use speedometers. And Flintstone it.

Have you ever done a video on DVI vs. VGA? I would like to see one on that
I ordered a new pickup truck that has adaptive cruise. But it didn’t cost thousands. It was a $500 option.
I had to implement adaptive cruisecontrol for my automatic control exam last year in matlab. Was a nightmare.
