Why is the 765LT (1.46,2 min) slower than the 720S (1.45,5 min)? The 720S with Track Pack / Trofeo R had a very well balanced setup with perfect traction and a good drivability. In the 765LT it was the opposite. First problem: Entry oversteer when the steering input is a tiny bit too sharp (You have to work very, very sensitive on the steering wheel at the corner entry). Second problem: Less traction and snappy oversteer during accelerating out of the corner. Why is the 620R (1.49,4 min) slower than the 600LT (1.48,9 min)? Less topspeed in the 620R than in the 600LT (Parabolica: 600LT 271 km/h, 620R 259 km/h).

Couple of months ago, I have joined a McLaren track-day with Dörr Group and driven both 720S and 600LT in Hockenheim with GP setup. 600LT was very similar to Cayman GT4 in term of behavior, but 720S was in a different league and it was really scary fast. Hats off to McLaren - they have built really good cars.

Even the Sena has a 70mm tyre width stagger, should have had a 60mm tyre width stagger: 265/35r19 on 9.5's and 325/30r20 on 12's. That looked a handful, nice driving, I would not have the courage.
For the road with all the driver aids set to maximum it might be that the reduced gearing means the straight line acceleration is more impressive than the 720S though and on the road you don't normally drive like that around the corners, unless you are mad. So perhaps ironically perhaps this car is better for the road, the standard car better for the track, at least time wise.
From the reviews it can be either scary or playful depending with oversteer depending what mood you are in, and that is for good drivers. For me as an average driver who does the odd track day, if I had this amount of money I would probably get a Ferrari F8 and let the electronics help me out more whilst making the impression I am a better driver than I am :)
I'm getting old though, and more cautious.
Still a lovely car to look at from Mclaren and obviously extremely impressive speed wise.

Could it be that due to the more highly strung chassis setup and sticky tyres, the fall-off of the on-limit grip in the 765LT is more abrupt. Could it be that it would have been more efficient to find the right ESC setting (Variable Drift Mode has a total of 16 settings in Track mode and another 16 in Sports mode). I can’t verify if this is true, but I heard when you guys first tested the 720S, it was 4 seconds slower than the current listed 720S time and this was all do to setup/alignment. No actually, the first 720s time which was around 1:48 was done with factory corsas, the 1:45 lap was done with trofeo, which aren’t actually available for the 720s as a buyable option. • @valeriymanin1090
      @valeriymanin1090 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

They look to behave more reasonably on the corners. After some small drift the driver can accelerate easily with Porsche or Mercedes, but in this video he has to fight at first against oversteering and only then give full throttle. It looks like the suspension of McLarens was not designed in a proper way.
If have collected data of the 4 relatively new cars: 620R and 765LT from this video, and 911 Turbo S 992 and AMG GT Black Series from the previous videos of sport auto. I do not include the GT2 RS because it is relatively old one, although a very fast car. The times are:
      620 R: 1.49.4
      765 LT: 1.46.2
      911 Turbo S: 1.47.8
      AMG GT Black: 1.43.3
So even a heavy Turbo S is faster than a track car 620R, which is 300 kg lighter.
If we have a look on the top speed achieved on the Hockenheim:
      620 R: 259 km/h
      765 LT: 281 km/h
      911 Turbo S: 271 km/h
      AMG GT Black: 276 km/h
Here we can see, that the 620R is slow also on a straight line. Ok, 765Lt and AMG GT have much more horsepower, but Turbo S doesn't. That may be because of the larger downforce of the 620R, but it doesn't help on the corners because of the unsatisfactory suspension adjustment. But 765LT is good here.
If you have a look on the slowest speed along the track (that is on the right corner after the longest straight line):
      620 R: 42 km/h
      765 LT: 48 km/h
      911 Turbo S: 45 km/h
      AMG GT Black: 47 km/h
Again, 620R is the worst. 765LT looks better, but if you have a closer look, then you will see, that Porsche and Mercedes already accelerate, while the McLaren driver still fights for the trajectory.
If you have a look on the acceleration after this slow corner (on the next 3 gears after reaching the minimal speed on the corner):
      620 R: 0.7g, 0.5g, 0.4g
      765 LT: 1.0g, 0.9g, 0.7g
      911 Turbo S: 0.9g, 0.7g, 0.5g
      AMG GT Black: 0.8g, 0.7g, 0.7g
Again, the 620R has the worst acceleration, although it has a small weight in comparison to 911 Turbo S. 675 LT has a nice acceleration. And AMG GT has a very smooth one: the next gear supports the previous one in a perfect way. Mercedes has the best gearbox ratios for the track.
If you have a look on the speeds on the last left corner on the tack (it is also relatively sharp):
      620 R: 78 km/h
      765 LT: 86 km/h
      911 Turbo S: 81 km/h
      AMG GT Black: 83 km/h
Again, 620R has a lot of problems. 765LT looks great with the numbers, but again, it is painful for the driver: he can not start accelerating immediately: he struggles with the oversteering.
The maximum achieved lateral accelerations on the track, such that car was still stable on the curve:
      620 R: 1.2 g
      765 LT: 1.2g
      911 Turbo S: 1.3g
      AMG GT Black: 1.5 g
So AMG GT Black Series is a proper track car. And the both McLarens have problems with a stability on the corners. Even the heavier 911 Turbo S looks better.
And the last one is the breaking negative acceleration:
      620 R: 1.5 g
      765 LT: 1.7 g
      911 Turbo S: 1.4 g
      AMG GT Black: 1.7 g
So here without surprises: Porsche is the heaviest car.
To sum up: McLarens have significant troubles with the stability on the curves. And the 620R has some problems with acceleration also.

With such powerful cars it's no longer a matter of which car is actually the fastest, it's all about launch control and AWD. The Pista would crush a bmw m5 with 800 hp on a track. I am also pretty sure that the Pista would be faster in the 0- 200 kmh and 0- 300 kmh, as well as in the roll races. It's sad that Carwow is only interested in 1/4 mile times (on unprepped surface, which gives a huge edge to AWD cars)

Mclaren obviously had to nerf the 765lt to keep those people who just spent nearly a million on a Senna! Looks like they went too far and made it slower over a lap than the 720s, the one car its suposed to be quicker over a lap!! However all is not lost as after watching a few drag races on the street with cup2 tires and not even the stickier trefeos it did 2 runs of the quarter mile in under 10's!!! One run was a 9.8!! On the street, average road tires, no prep, normal gas!! The extra power,180lb's dropped in weight and different gearing ratio's has turned it into a drag machine! With all the right conditions on a prepped surface, trefeo tires and race gas we could see it do a 9.5 or even 9.4 and consistantley be in the 9's, so its a fail for the track weapon side but street drag racing production cars with no mods, its a win! I did notice the Senna did a 1.40, so Mclaren did have room to get the 765lt inbetween that and the 720s! 5 seconds a lap!! Thats huge!! Maybe Hokenhiem is a bad track for a car set up like the 765lt, we see it all the rime in F1 where some cars a bad and others good then the next track its all swapped around! Id like to see the 765lt and 720s do a few more tracks before condeming the 765lt to just a quick car in a straight line over the 1/4

And it's faster here doesn't mean it's the same case in other tracks. At sachsenring it's like only 0.1 faster than MR and Black series maybe faster. Alao GT Black series is already the faster road legal car around Nurburgring. Will be announced in a few days. Senna may have a hard time to actually go faster. And AMG ONE will crush all road leagal cars on this planet even GT Black series and the upcoming 992 GT2RS.

@Valkyrie 007 Oh you know what. I recognize you. You're that funny guy who are laughed at everywhere because you have a delusional feeling that Aston Martin cars are better than others. Why you change your name? Because too many people make jokes of you?

@Valkyrie 007 Poor guy. I don't think Aston Martin is ever gonna make that track car you mentioned. They have nothing successful in their history of making any cars. So they broke 7 times and now still can't sell cars to profit until Mercedes became their biggest share holders and give them the AMG engines and technology. But still, Mercedes only allows them to aim a very small market. It's controlled by AMG like its satellite brand but still Mercedes hasn't decided to fully buy them in which means there is still high possibilities that they broke again and disappeared. Anyway it doesn't matter. People already forget this car brand. 007 movies are not that popular anymore. Nobody cares any car of A M
