Hello everyone, I appreciate your interest in the modifications I made to my Wooting 60HE keyboard! I'd like to address a common misconception about the switches I swapped in the video. The Gateron Magnetic Orange switches I used as replacements for the stock L60 Lekker switches are indeed compatible with and support the analog features of the Wooting keyboard. In fact, Gateron is the manufacturer behind the Lekker switches originally installed in the Wooting keyboard, so the essential analog functionalities-such as customizable actuation points, rapid triggering, and the magnetic hall effect-remain fully operational with these switches. One of the few noticeable differences between the Gateron Orange switches and the Lekker switches lies in the spring tension, with the Gateron Oranges having slightly lighter springs. Some have also mentioned that the Gateron Orange switches are limited to 0.4mm Rapid Trigger. This distinction doesn't impede or alter the analog capabilities of the keyboard in any significant way. The core technology enabling analog functionality in the Wooting keyboard is inherent to both the Gateron Orange and the Lekker switches, ensuring seamless compatibility and operation. Therefore, despite the switch replacement, the Wooting's analog features, which many of us appreciate for its precision and versatility, are retained and fully functional. Your interest and engagement mean a lot-thank you for watching!
Hi, i just want to ask did you re-lubed the stabilizers? or you just wiped out the old grease and added new dielectric grease? did you use Krytox 205 or something else? BTW great video man, gained a sub from me!
hi, I just wanted to ask, when you swap out the switches, does the wooting still keep is extremely fast actuation speed? I’m thinking of getting the wooting and modding it since I actually want it to sound good while also being good for gaming. edit: I know it’s stated in the pin comment but I just wanted to double check 😅
I have actually found lubing the switches in the places where films would normally go, helps tremendously with the weird clicky sound that the stock l60s make when letting go ofthe key quickly
it definitely isnt great, but its better than stock wooting lol. luckily i never got the wooting so if i decide i want one, then i get to just get it with its new 60HE+ version, with the PC plate and crew on stabs and such. i dont know if i care enough about the hall effect to get one, since i am not competitive by any means, but the option is enticing as a keyboard collector :3
great video man! I just bought the same Tofu60 Redux with the brass weight, and bought my first set of keycaps! can't wait for my stuff to come in. mine will look super similar to yours, but I bought "retro" looking keycaps :D can I ask, at 8:31 you state you don't think you need the stand off screws; can I ask, just how many screws did u actually use to screw in the PCB? I think u forgot to tell us after saying "we'll find out in a second" haha. I heard not screwing some parts of a PCB allow it to sound better i guess? something about flex?
I used only one of the pegs on the bottom. But I used every screw. I’d rather not have flex on the Wooting since I don’t want to risk messing up the magnetic switches.
i’m not really a genius with keyboards but don’t you lose the speed of the switch when you swapped to the orange switches? or do you still keep the speed of the wooting
You don't lose the speed of the switch when you swap to the Gateron orange switches. This is because the Gateron orange switches are the same as the Wooting Lekker switches in that they are both magnetic and work with the hall effect. Therefore, rapid trigger and everything else is the same.
I’ve talked with one of the wooting people and apparently the bottom and stem mold is slightly different resulting in a worse bottom out/near bottomout feeling
Yo, thats pretty good, its basically a custom already and looks clean. I'd just play around with foams (no foam, wooting foam, tofu foam) and see what works best, it's got a pretty nice body now with the alu case and weight. Also you can try to get one of those small deskmats for keyboards to move it around, can make it easier maybe?
Hi! Thanks for the amazing vid. How do you know that tofu 60 redux's case will fit with your keyboard? I have a local 60% keyboard, and i'm not sure if tofu 60 redux will fit. As in, the layout is completely the same, but how about the screws and stuff?
You’ll have to check with your PCB manufacturer to see if it’s a universal 60% PCB and which cases it supports. If it’s a Wooting PCB it will be compatible with the Tofu Redux.
why did you change for the KS20's orange? The normal lekker's were not good enough? I mean, you could have lubed the lekkers ... I actually got the white's, but really wanted to understand your reasons for the orange's because they are very similar to the "normal" lekker's
6:45 - you put those on the inside of the redux case, on those sticky outty bits around the inside perimeter, so that the pcb rests on the rubber soft pads instead of the alu redux case
I got a PC plate with my tofu60 redux, it hardly makes any difference. I still decided to keep it installed, but, was disappointed. I went with the burgundy red case, GMK Pixel keycaps. I decided against swapping to the new Gat HE switches. It plays phenomenally, it doesn't have to sound like a creamy cloud pop for a buttery typing experience. Great video
Really? I was considering getting a PC plate since some people said it sounded better but I don't want to go through all that work if it isn't better. I also have the burgundy tofu case, gmk red samurai keycaps, and gateron jade switches. Also do you think the tape mod would improve the sound? I haven't tried it
@RealKyurem I prefer the PC plate sound signature, but the tape mod sounded a bit too poppy for my liking, so I went without it. I love this keyboard! I can't wait for my Wooting 80HE to arrive, but I'll have to wait for a nice case to release
a lot better, but feel like still sounds like keyboard from 2013 2014, like barely starting getting good.maybe it is personally preference, but still sounds very "blocky" and not crispy enough for me.
Do you think it sounds better with or without the foam? I'm currently using a tofu 60 redux with the brass weight and lubed switches and stabilizers, I quite like the sound of it but wasn't sure if the foam added or took away from the sound.
I think a reason why Wooting sounds kinda mute because the plate, if you can find a universal 60% alumium or PC plate it should sound better. Anyway it's very high effort video, I like it
It's the way the switch is constructed. Every HE board has a noticeable thud during the bottom out. It's in a similar vein to Topre. They have a distinct sound that's either annoying or amazing.
@@J7T800 not really, the new AKKO MOD 007B-HE with Akko Cream Yellow Magnetic switches sound about 3x better than the Wooting's. Aluminum chassis and like you said, the way the switches were constructed matter.
When you get the Redux case from tofu there is an option for the FR4 ANSI Plate and Carbon fiber ANSI Plate for the wooting 60 compatibility. Do you need them and which one would you recommend?
I mean can you actually feel the millisecond difference of activating and deactivating switches between a normal keyboard and a rapid trigger one... Most pros still use normal keyboards and play fine with it, I feel like rapid trigger is just a gimmick and not something necessary to compete at the highest level.
imo as long as the PCB isn’t replaced and you’re using Hall effect switches then it’s still a Wooting since the whole point of the Wooting is the performance benefits of rapid trigger and custom action which only require the PCB and switches.
