@@BriefCaseOfficial I'm a one woman show for this forgotten town. The most historical story of regional area is ignored, due to circumstances. The gateway to the Little DESERT. A magic place. I came for two years. In 1981.......LOL.
Mrs. Keller sounds like she was incredibly insecure about herself. The fact that she threatened an innocent girl who just happened to be beautiful and minding her damn business to get water for her family speaks volumes of that woman's character. I hate women like Mrs. Keller very much... blaming an innocent young girl/woman for her husband's wandering eye instead of laying into the man.
This unfortunately is not uncommon, even in the not so distant past. When I was in high school in Utah I the late 1980s my mom and I were trying to find a home for an exchange student from Mexico. We asked a Mormon woman with a large family because they had lived in Mexico for awhile and knew Spanish. The mom asked if the girl was pretty. My mom thought this odd so she asked why. The woman said she'd seen it before, that a young woman, maid or whomever, would steel the man of the house. Cracked me up because first of all, my friend would have never done that, plus the man was not attractive :) It bothers me that the women don't blame their husband's!
How about laying into no one? Her husband talking to a girl walking across his lawn while he's outside in full view...does not inherently add up to mean he's fucking her.
The husband knew his wife was insanely jealous. He should have told Clara to send someone else for the water instead as a warning. I don't doubt he was acting a little too friendly towards her. He should have protected her from his wife, especially when asked if he was messing with her. I feel like he really made things so much worse with his silence. His wife definitely murdered her.
This was a sad story about a young woman who was murdered because of a married woman's uncalled for jealousy. I blame the Keller's for the "horrific," murder of Clara Shanks. What is even sadder about this case is that justice wasn't served, inregards to who or whom murdered Clara Shanks. May her soul rest in eternal peace.🌹Great investigating, and presentation, as always.
I don’t think it was “uncalled for” jealousy Mr Keller clearly fancied her and enjoyed talking to her. He should have protected his wife he knew she was jealousy. However poor Clara did nothing wrong she was murdered for being too pretty.
And all of it was the result of one nasty-minded, jealous, lying woman and her bullied husband. The law might have let them off, but the stain of guilt was still on their souls. Thank God the brother missed, and that he had good neighbors who stood up for him.
The wife should have taken her anger out on her husband not young Clara...I feel the two women had a fight and Clara died as a result of the fight...I also believe the husband and his brother got rid of Clara's body...a very sad case and all because the husband was gutless and wouldn't tell his wife that nothing was going on...RIP Clara 😥💜
@Teri-Anne Elverd Just how did you come to THAT conclusion from the scant information about the encounter/autopsy/ court trial? That the Wife got into a fight and the Husband and his Brother disposed of the body takes a lot of extrapolation from the sketchy FACTS provided in the narrative.
How did he figure that attack was “unprovoked”? Back then, a rumor about a young beautiful girl acting inappropriately with a married man, true or not, could ruin her reputation beyond repair. So whether she was murdered or she drowned herself, Mrs. Keller’s jealousy killed that girl. Edit: I hadn’t heard of the second autopsy when I said that.
The moral of the story is that you should never accept charity from anybody if you can help it, not even so much as using their private property to access whatever public services you need. Beggars can't be choosers. By putting their daughter in this position, Clara's parents rendered her susceptible to all manner of the Keller's whims and b.s. They were also obviously dense if they didn't grasp the underlying issue after the first unfounded accusation against their daughter.
@@evelynzlon9492 Maybe they never thought a problem would arise with their neighbors who they had been friendly with, and knew their daughter to be of high character. It was common back then for kids to have daily chores, so maybe that was her chore. I'm not sure how they were supposed to know about the jealousy before ever hearing from the neighbor about it.
@@VioletJoy Life is unfair and character is generally less important than power. Nothing is free and if you take charity in any form, you reduce yourself to the status of a beggar which makes you extremely vulnerable. And you can't trust strangers based on their superficial friendliness. Her parents were old enough to know these facts of life. So much sadness caused by one woman’s insecurity and one mouse of a man. You’d think Dan Keller would have simply said, “Don’t be ridiculous. She’s our neighbor.” If a husband is flirting with another woman, the wife’s beef is with her HUSBAND… not the other woman. Your husband is the one who made the vows. Take it up with him. But such a bizarre case. Dan Keller was obviously lying about there having been an inappropriate relationship, when he easily could have just denied it and told his wife to knock it off. What was Dan’s payoff here for reinforcing these false allegations?
I think he must've enjoyed making his wife jealous. She was very controlling and always had to be right, so her husband told her what she wanted to hear. He may have even felt a measure of pride at being suspected of having an intimate relationship with a pretty young lady, not thinking of the scandal it would cause Clara.

This case is REALLY sad. Keller's had no reason to harm her. Tranishing her reputation was already a life sentence for Clara in the community . She would be forever the tart who sweet eyes married men. Clara's family , as the proud owner of the said tart , had everything to lose ..their morals and reputation would be tarnish as well, their daughters scorned and their sons opendly mocked. Why do you belive anything the Shanks said??? Their story of dreams and odd dinners only makes sens if you belive in fairies and warewolfs...
Mrs. Keller was a miserable, insecure woman who I’m convinced tormented and killed poor Clara. Even if Clara had taken her own life it was still her fault because she’s the one who accused her of doing something shameful that Clara would have struggled to prove was untrue. Her reputation in the community was ruined and even her own family seemed uncertain. This is such a tragic case.
groom her the gurl nothing happened that was the yelling of her brothers who started the rumors by yelling hey clara your fella so the rumor started from her ok
This is so tragically sad! Clara was just getting water and being polite! What an absolute maggot Mr. Shanks is to not have denied it all. He’s no true man and justice was not done. Seems the wife had too much idle time on her hands! Jealous wretch. Poor lass, Clara couldn’t fight them off while trying to get the gutless weasel to speak the truth. Cheers for another brilliant case, Sir.

Have you seen the cases that have been discussed on many channels from within the last 10 to 20 years? It really isn't that much different... You meet the wrong crazy, jealous woman, or the wrong crazy entitled man who can't take rejection, and boom. Sad..
I love your video documentaries BC. You're very knowledgeable. Do you think in the future you could do a video of the 1905 unsolved murder of 17 year old Mattie Hackett of Readfield, Kennebec county, Maine?
Oh wow a case that actually happened near me. From the sound of it, the locations mentioned are just a few miles from where I live. Might have to drive around one day and find them.
So sad that it was never solved! Sorry for her family, the killer or killers will get there punishment, after life. Her family had to move on knowing that who ever did this was still free.👍
Mr Keller must’ve been a “milktoast.” Afraid of his wife. She obviously wore the pants in their household. He couldn’t say that there was nothing going on between himself and Clara. Poor Clara!
We be up as working at a nursing so we Gota make sure we watch this channel it keeps up up loving the old stories ppl were crazy then and they still crazy in 2022
Dreams are a compilation of thoughts and memories . They are not premonitions, they are what we fear it would happen , combined with hauntings memories of what did happen. So her mother ~dreaming~ of exactly what happened is ..highly suspicious.
It's obvious who killed her...why they weren't charged is beyond understanding! She had no enemies except for the woman accusing her of adultery, but since she was found to be a virgin she wasn't raped and murdered, which IMO would be the 2nd obvious conclusion.
Great another new case from BC. Told very well. You really get a feel for the time the places the people. Such drama, a time where no cameras were telling half truths its a time where a person's word means something.
Thank you BC for this glimpse into American pioneering farm life. You brought it to life, and I was immersed in the story. It could easily have happened in rural Australia too, as a single woman's reputation was protected, being the means by which she was accepted into society. The Keller wife was deliberately destructive in the way she behaved, smearing Clara's good character. Clara probably didn't know anything about s*x, except if she watched any farm animals they might have had. I'm not sure about the cause of her mysterious death, or who was responsible, but we know that Clara was an innocent and virtuous victim of another's unfounded jealousy.
A lot of these stories have a sort of tragic vibe to them, but this one especially so. An innocent young lady died because of a jealous wife's imagination and a husband who wouldn't speak up. Two families who relied on each other, and then turned on each other. Many lives ruined by a misunderstanding. I think it would make a good, sad movie.
After hearing this one, I'm suddenly thinking, "what if someone in present time found an old diary that was either written by the murderer or a witness." 🥺
Evening football on tele my son wanted to watch it so I came to bed as I couldnt wait to hear this story. It was sad that a young lady was murdered because of a wimp of a husband. I’ve been swimming in Wolf creek falls many times as a child & young woman! Being aware of the local legend of Clara! Thank you, you put my tiny childhood adventures & hometown of Wallace Indiana for many to share.
When I research and write a script from a less well known location I always wonder if anyone who follows the channel may know the area, I had fun looking into Fountain and Parke Counties
Yes! Growing up as a child in Wallace, we heard many stories about Clara and the mystery surrounding her death!
12 days after her death, they exhumed her body and how many (7-9) Drs said that they were sure she was an honest and pure woman? Gross.
The kellers murdered Clara , Nannie Keller was a very jealous woman throwing accusations around . This is so sad
Hey man I've been watching your videos for 4 years now which is basically from the beginning and since the very first video I've been a huge fan of your channel . I love anything related to human history and crime so your channel was literally the perfect channel for me atleast . Plus your calm and soothing voice only makes it better . However I wanted to let you know about "Established Titles" which was featured in one of your earlier videos as a sponsor . I believe they've been exposed as a huge scam and I'm sure you would've never pitched it to your audience if you knew it was a scam but now that its out I think you should address it or reupload the video without the sponsor's plug . All in all keep doing what your doing love you content man and I know for a fact it'll only get better with time .
Thsnkyou so much :)
@@BriefCaseOfficial the pleasure is all mine:) As a long time viewer thats the least I can do bro . Also I just realised you actually read your viewers comments and not just like it to show that you care which imo is a sign of a great human being so more power to you bro and thanks for taking my suggestion :)
Yes I read the comments but I am not a big youtuber so I have far less comments to read, cool name by the way Pillow Pilots :)
@@BriefCaseOfficial You may not have the following like some of the biggest youtubers out here but I dont have a single doubt in my mind that you deserve to be one of the biggest creators on this platform and im sure that day will soon come :) . Thanks btw my name is actually based on the two man band Twenty One Pilots I love their music and they're great human beings too if you haven't listened to them you should definately give it a shot im sure you'll love em as much as I do .
I do not know the band but will check them out :)
Just so continuously wonderful. Thank you. So thorough and detailed. God bless you, sir. Your voice makes me feel safe even though you deal with horrors--you are not an exploiter, but a wise, kind man.
So nice of you
Clara's Poor Family loses her, then gets Blamed???!!! Why believe anything the Keller's said???!!! No one else had a reason to harm her !
My family has lived in Terre Haute since 1929. I found this very interesting and feel so sad for Ms. Clara
Thanks Carole
Good evening BC, we're celebrating today because Malaysia had a brand new Prime Minister and it's a public holiday today as a celebration.
Hi Dee, Hope all is good with you, did you see last weeks video
@@BriefCaseOfficial Yes, I had. 😃✌🏻
Cool, hope Malaysia continues to prosper. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Love,
Your Neighbour Indonesia 🇮🇩
💚
@@deedragongirl Congratulations on the new Prime Minister!!🎉
Thanks for the upload! Getting cold in Canada. We'll have snow pretty soon. Time to go and load up on Cup-A-Soup packets!
Such a tragic and sad case . I believe Mrs. Keller did it. Another brilliant presentation BC.
Thanks Greg :)
Another amazing story narrated by the one abs only BC. Poor Clara, so young and another life only partly lived.
Thankyou very much Berenice
It is always a good day when Brief Case uploads another great case
Another beautiful young woman with a very tragic end. No rest for her soul. 😥💔💋
Good morning, always happy to see a new brief case!
Morning Holly
What a horrible story! Thank you for telling this and all other stories. We love your narration of these cases.
Poor Clara, she was just living her life when a married man tried to groom her, and his jealous wife had her killed. The Kellers were 100% responsible
Agree with you completely.
Sadly still happens.
Also often the groomer will kill, to save the face.
groom her the gurl nothing happened that was the yelling of her brothers who started the rumors by yelling hey clara your fella so the rumor started from her ok
Truly sad! 💔 Thank you Brief Case, your delivers gives me always emotions. My respect and admiration to you. Wish safe and good week
Thanks for listening
This is so tragically sad! Clara was just getting water and being polite! What an absolute maggot Mr. Shanks is to not have denied it all. He’s no true man and justice was not done. Seems the wife had too much idle time on her hands! Jealous wretch. Poor lass, Clara couldn’t fight them off while trying to get the gutless weasel to speak the truth. Cheers for another brilliant case, Sir.
Finally ready to watch as soon as posted. Yet a new case to me. Sure it will be an intriguing case, skilled narrated as always. Wishing you BC and the rest of the gang a great new week. 😊
Thanks for listening
I've truly missed your wonderful narration. Thank you.❤💯
Welcome back!
I lean to the "they did it" side. The last autopsy had six different doctors and the first 2 could have been easily been botched. Also jealousy right up there after greed when it comes to murder.
I really enjoy this channel! I like the information you bring about through these stories. And you have an amazing accent.
Thank you very much!
I really do enjoy the format and delivery of your stories.
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you Brief Case for all your continued excellence in these true crime videos. I love coming back to a video or two of yours to indulge myself with. People are worse than any monster I know of.
Mr. Brief Case, Your channel is one of my favorites. I love that you do historical crimes as I am a lover of history, especially 1900 to 1950s. But, I also love your videos of older cases. I love them all.
I know sometimes you have guest narrators but, no one does these stories like you. Your voice is perfect for the narration of the story.
I have not seen all of your videos but, I am slowly catching up.
Thank you for doing these for your fans like me,.
I want to add that I love that you do intelligent stories. You treat your audience like we have brains and you never delve into trash or sensationalism. That has my respect
Thanks Diane, I would be interested to know how you think I sound on next weeks case :)
@@BriefCaseOfficial I'll let you know
Thank you again for this interesting video! I enjoy all of your videos, through and trough!
I wish you remember that you make me happy every time you upload :) And I'm not the only one.
Your voice is enjoyable, and your accent is the cherry on the top. Suits in these old-timey cases. Your narration is so spot on.
Lots and lots of love from Tampere, Finland! I hope some day you'd cover a case from here. I can gladly offer my help.
Thank you very much!
Thank you Brief Case
Good afternoon BC family, it 14:01 pm in South Africa, I've been impatiently waiting, thank you for the upload 🌹
It's amazing there is any beautiful ladies today. Seems like it was quite dangerous in the past and more of a curse for a tragic life in the past. So many of them were stolen from the gene pool.
Thanks for another video. I really enjoy mostly listening to them while I'm at work.
Thankyou :)
Have you seen the cases that have been discussed on many channels from within the last 10 to 20 years? It really isn't that much different...
You meet the wrong crazy, jealous woman, or the wrong crazy entitled man who can't take rejection, and boom. Sad..
I agree beauty seems to create a lot of issues
I love your video documentaries BC. You're very knowledgeable. Do you think in the future you could do a video of the 1905 unsolved murder of 17 year old Mattie Hackett of Readfield, Kennebec county, Maine?
Hello, Thankyou for the suggestion, I do not know that case but look foward to looking into it - Thanks :)
The first autopsy seemed rather sloppy
Thank you so much for another great case 😊
Thanks Rebecca
Thanks
Thankyou so much Irene :)
Alright Brife Case sensational job as always my friend keep up the sensational job
Thank you kindly
@@BriefCaseOfficial your welcome
Thank You, Brief Case! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Excellent, as ALWAYS! Enjoy your week!!🤗🤗💚💚💚🙋
Thank you Renee, You too
I live in South Bend, Indiana, Notre Dame University. This was a real treat! Thanks a bunch! 😊
I lived 2 miles from where this took place. Lots of eerie events take place along Wolf Creek to this day.
Thank you for another interesting case.
Awesome again BC, also sad and infuriating. Thank you for sharing your most interesting work. See you soon with your next story. 😎🍁🇨🇦🐘
A boot print was found by the pond if only the police had thought to cast it and try to match to boots belonging to the accused neighbors.
Quality channel!!!!!!!!!!
Yesss another video 💪💜 can't wait to watch later when I get a break!
Hope you enjoy!
@@BriefCaseOfficial I most definitely did enjoy the video! Thank you for everything you do!
been around fountain and parke county for years. the case is still discussed. well done, BC! pat briefcat for me!
Brilliant, its good to know where the nice people who regularly leave comments come from :)
Good morning from Black Diamond Alberta, 😍 Monday's. Thank you for another interesting BC. Have a wonderful week!
Thank you BC , Have a Wonderful Week!
☮️🌺🐝safe🖖🏼
Thanks, You too
Mr Keller must’ve been a “milktoast.” Afraid of his wife. She obviously wore the pants in their household. He couldn’t say that there was nothing going on between himself and Clara. Poor Clara!
I have never heard of this expression, only ‘milksop’. Wonder if they mean the same thing? 🤔Etymological Investigation shall commence post haste! 🧐
Just great channel love the cold cases Very interesting 😅😮
Thanks :)
I love this channel, the narrator voice is so relaxing, I listen every night at bedtime and fall right to sleep😴
Wow, thank you!
You are outstanding with your presentations to us just remarkable 👏👏👏👏👏
Thankyou so much
Another really interesting story. Poor Clara though.
Great story BV. Sad case indeed.
Thankyou
another great story, thank you.
Thanks for listening
We be up as working at a nursing so we Gota make sure we watch this channel it keeps up up loving the old stories ppl were crazy then and they still crazy in 2022
Clara's mother's dream brings echoes of the Red Barn murder. Maternal instinct is amazing.
Dreams are a compilation of thoughts and memories . They are not premonitions, they are what we fear it would happen , combined with hauntings memories of what did happen.
So her mother ~dreaming~ of exactly what happened is ..highly suspicious.
Omg. They sooo did it. Poor girl. Unbelievable! Great case though 😃
Thanks Elise
How sad, sounds like Clara was killed for being too pretty. Thanks Brief Case, God bless and have a great week 🥰
Thanks Dixie, You too
It's obvious who killed her...why they weren't charged is beyond understanding! She had no enemies except for the woman accusing her of adultery, but since she was found to be a virgin she wasn't raped and murdered, which IMO would be the 2nd obvious conclusion.
If Keller knew he hadn’t slept with her, why would he let his wife do that? And then help her hide it??
Well she should have stayed with her family and not leave expecially by herself. Great job briefcase. Your awesome
Thankyou
Victim blaming is very offensive and that’s exactly what you are doing.
Great another new case from BC. Told very well. You really get a feel for the time the places the people. Such drama, a time where no cameras were telling half truths its a time where a person's word means something.
Another amazing Brief Case. Mr. Kellerman should have been honest to everyone. That young lady was innocent
Love your channel.
Thank you so much Bren :)
This is a good one. Very interesting.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for another great video
Thanks for watching!
As usual well presented after obviously searching research. Keep it up , I think you pick out cases not as well known as they ought to be.
Thank you
A lot of these stories have a sort of tragic vibe to them, but this one especially so. An innocent young lady died because of a jealous wife's imagination and a husband who wouldn't speak up. Two families who relied on each other, and then turned on each other. Many lives ruined by a misunderstanding. I think it would make a good, sad movie.
"Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour" (Exodus 20:16)
After hearing this one, I'm suddenly thinking, "what if someone in present time found an old diary that was either written by the murderer or a witness." 🥺
Evening football on tele my son wanted to watch it so I came to bed as I couldnt wait to hear this story. It was sad that a young lady was murdered because of a wimp of a husband. I believe the Kellers murdered Clara poor girl. Thankyou BC for another brilliant narrated story from years gone by please keep them coming an avid fan
Thanks Susan
