All Kirby 64 Abilities Ranked

- With new Kirby games striving to make every ability balanced and useful, it's about time we look back at the old days, when every ability was not created equal. Specifically, we're going to look at Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. In this game there are a total of 35 unique copy abilities due to the combination mechanic. Some of them are great, and some of them suck! I'm going to do my best to place the all on a scale of "The Forgotten Land" to "Star Allies"!

As a certified Triple Deluxe fan I feel attacked by this tier list

Just know that at its worst Star Allies is a B!
TD is a great game, (high B to high A for me) there's just better Kirby games for me.
You actually gain normal kirby movement as double stone. So it could be D... low D

I love how you didn't find out about the helmet that tanks the rock nuke until recently - I've known for over twenty years! XD
I wasn't expecting this, but definetly not disappointed! I always loved the power up system in 64! I agree with a lot of it too, and Ice even got some love.
I think all of the powerups are good in viable, though some definetly have a few extra bells and whistles.
Oh also rock-ice I think is a curling stone.
Shoutout to Fireworks ability as well

This game is so underrated, the story, cutscenes, music, combo copy abilities, boss battles, bonus modes, the shard puzzles etc
The main thing holding the game back is how slow kirbys movement speed is, lol
Honestly it feels like Sakurai made smash kirby have Cyrstal Shards movement speed, but he can be pretty fast like in Amazing Mirror

You love to some Kirby 64 love. This would probably be how I ranked the abilites too. A lot of them are kinda just...not great and slow. Fire Sword and Star Wars Kirby are probably my personal favorites. Mostly because they are just cool and fun to use.
(Also that Star Allies slander smh my head)
I'm very tough on games that release a lot of important content months after release lol
Return to Dream Land should technically be higher than Planet Robobot. 😉
Also Double Stone is far better than F. Really good for cheesing many levels and the speed is not that bad.
Btw you’re objectively wrong about Bomb/Cutter. That ability combination legit destroys bosses within a matter of seconds because of how spammable it is. Basically the Metal Blade of Kirby 64 even though you can only throw it in one direction (which was probably a deliberate choice given how much Metal Blade broke Mega Man 2).
And Fire/Spark is A because you’re completely invulnerable the entire time, you can change which direction you go as well as jump while it’s active, it lasts for a solid amount of time, and the movement speed is excellent. There’s no way in hell that dogshit ability combinations like Fire/Ice and Rock/Bomb are better.
I don’t really get ranking the abilities by game? Like just make it S to D tier. I think Star Allies has REALLY good copy abilities in terms of boss fights just not interesting in puzzle designs. So putting an ability in the Star Allies tier doesn’t really tell me much.
Like if you’re doing it by game why not make D tier Kirby’s Dream Land on GB which has zero copy abilities which would technically be the worst, right?
Otherwise I really like the idea of ranking all copy abilities within their own game, this is a fun video!

Ok so tier by game is funny, can’t deny that. But I don’t get how you classify it lol. Triple Deluxe is D and Star Allies is F, but Robobot is A and Forgo Land is S. So is Return to Dreamland B and C? (lol i kno this doesn’t matter, it just amuses me)

Fire + bomb is best
Woooah, double rock is *not* bottom tier. U move faster than regular rock.
U don't have to wait 2 seconds for the dynamite. U showed it a couple times it popping on contact with enemies.
You're not invincible as snowman. U even show that u took a hit at 14:44 while it was still active.
U say u can't jump with friction burn (fire+electric) but u show it at 20:55.

Heavy disagree on double burning being S tier. It's one of my least fav combos in the game. It has a high tendency (when I used it) to end right as I get to an enemy and drop me in their face damaging me, it's also impractical on bosses due to the forced movement. The forced movement also causes slowdown in many areas because since you can't move up or down or cancel the ability you are frequently left plastered into a wall until the ability ends and you can move normally again.
I also don't agree on shurikens being F. Travel time is pretty much nil, it's almost a hitscan weapon that just instantly lodges into an enemy and kills them. It also has a very fast "reload". And seeing where it goes? It's pretty much a straight line that starts just slightly above Kirby's head.
And while I agree that flamebow sucks I was surprised you didn't mention the lingering fire being able to hit enemies.
Overall though great list and I'm happy to see someone loving on this game. Still one of my favorite Kirby games of all time.
I only disagree with a single one, and that's the drill; you can spam it very quickly, making it nearly a screen-clearer
