    Nice work! As a max user I’m amazed at what blender can do! Is the sculpting also done in blender? A couple of questions; Why did you need to create another mesh over the sculpted mesh? Thanks!

    • @benhardwiesner6963
      @benhardwiesner6963 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Timbo's antics Yupp that was blender too. Only the textures were drawn in substance painter.
      The low poly mesh he created over the sculpted one is way less graphicintense. Sculpts could never be used in a game. Thats why he baked the information of the sculpted model onto the low poly model to "fake" all the details by just reading them from a texturemap.
      Except for the sillouette you won't easily be able to tell the difference if even at all.
      All the ending screenshots have nothing to do with the sculpted model anymore. Its only the second mesh which he created over the sculpted one, yet you still can see all the details.
      tiny - in how it looks
      HUGE + in performance

    Yes! A slower version of your work. That means, I can more easily try to copy your amazing skills :D
    As a complete garbage blender guy who wants to try to create amazing, muscle detailed boxer character where you can clearly see the six pack and the muscles etc with nice skin. Do you highly recommend using substance painter with blender or can i achieve pretty much the same results with just using blender?

    • @benhardwiesner6963
      @benhardwiesner6963 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unique Games In theory you could achieve the same result with ms paint........ but for serious: substance has created a veeery powerful set of tools for the industry. they make your life muuuch easier. But still the former goal of blender was to be a 100% package. There is quite nothing that you just cannot do in blender... there only are other programms which give you the same results faster.
      I havent tried texturing in only blender 2.8 yet... for 2.79 I can say its very unappealing especially for starters but it does its job. but again. Substance is quite a King.
      If you happen to still visit any type of school you can obtain a free student license for personal use only where you can practice with the full versions of every substance programm. In my case even a scholar apprenticeship does the trick.
      I'd highly reccomend to not ignore those programms. its unbelievable how fast they flooded every game company... by NO MEANS it is easy for a big company to switch software, still substance became industry standard by now already. That alone tells me that substance will be the future for quite some time I guess

      @uniquegames3189 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@benhardwiesner6963 I see, thanks for the clarification.
      Well since it sounds so great, I will have to look at it in the future. I think right now as a beginner, I need to learn how to lift up my fingers at blender, then move my feets, and then crawl, before I try to walk with substance and blender. If you know what I mean haha.

    I apologize for my cursing but that was fucking fantastic, I was hooked from the start till the end, I even learn't some new tricks on how to model the hind legs on a model. One thing I was a bit puzzled on is why you spread the models parts out as you exported the model to substance painter. I cant figure out the reasoning for it when you then had the model snap back into its rested pose again to paint. ( I'm learning substance painter and this had me wondering).

      Lokesh Reddy 26:07 you can see the whole model. Under 17k tris is just phenomenally low poly for such detailed work ... Some crytec games use up to 100k for a single human character.
      Everything that makes it look prettier than what you see at 26:07 comes from texturemaps which he baked from the high poly sculpt onto that ugly blob.
      Thats the reason why he needed to model a whole new mesh after finishing the sculpting part. The sculpt has nothing to do with the finished product anymore

      Lokesh Reddy Eventho I completely abandoned the 2.79 already and never tried it, its save to say that both at least can read and export fbx files or similar alternatives.
      You maybe cannot start the same savefile from 2.8 in 2.79... but an exported object of every 3d tool works in every other one that supports at least one same fileformat.

      @@benhardwiesner6963 Thanks for explaining it in a detailed way man and coming to the version I did try to completely move onto 2.8 but after doing that, a couple of hours of modelling a weapon and it just crashed and wouldn't open or at least it would just open and close straight away. But I loved 2.8, it was really clean and professional but I think I'll wait until the stable version comes out which is gonna be in the mid of this year by my analysis. Also I think the entire body (with equipment) was around 30k(tris) and is still less when compared I know, I heard that Nate from Uncharted 4 was 100k. Anyways thanks again for replying man! Have a nice day

      Lokesh Reddy Hmm since beta release I couldn't experience a single crash yet. Especially the sculpting is soo much more fun with the improved visuals... Already I wouldn't want to go back as long as I don't have to.

      By the way I just noticed I mistook the polycount for the vert count. His model has 33k, not 17k. Doesnt change the fact that it looks gorgeous and still is more than ok for games

    May I ask why it is necessary to create the mesh again before overlaying the material?
