One of my favorite games of the year and kicked Red Rising out of my collection. The Cold Waters expansion turns things up a notch and the Tribes module slows down the pace for more of a build up, but not in a negative way
OH wow I can't wait for cold waters to come in the mail!! I think the pacing is great as it is but i'm really interested to see how tribes slows it down~thanks Mark!
It would be interesting to see your game collection in the background :) I love the clean background also, but games in the background gives more games to explore. Love the video.
that's so fun to hear! it's excellent at 2 players so it certainly hits our table very often as well~ hopefully we get our cold waters in at the same time!
Can you exploit two different locations during your main action to gain enough coins or power? Or can you only exploit one? I am just now getting and learning this game. Some cards need 6 power and not sure how to get that much without exploiting two cards
I feel like the only thing I disliked about this game was that whoever triggers the final round also gets to take an additional turn in addition to the turn where they triggered it. The creator said whoever went first isn’t really an advantage in this game, but I tend to disagree. I think a good house rule is to add a first player token. Thoughts?
Tim, your video convinced me to buy Aquatica from my local store and I'm trying to learn the rules, but something isn't clicking for me. I started watching your video again and your sample turn at 4:16 is confusing me. Can you only gain the benefits of your location once per turn? ("exploit") How come you started sliding up your cards after exploiting them? I thought the "raise" action slides a card up. Do you automatically slide a card up after you've exploited it? Thanks.
You can only exploit a card level when it shows an icon at that level. After exploiting you shift it up a level. Raising a card one level can always be done (provided the card has at least 1 level left), even if the level shows a blank. No benefits are gained, unlike in exploiting a card.
@@joostjonker7308 Thanks for your reply although I have learned a few things since I posted the question four months ago. I don't think what you wrote is correct ("Raising a card one level can always be done") for cards with blank spaces. I learned that to get past a blank you need a different card with an up arrow to raise the card with the blank. At least that's how I've played.
@@jacobjslee You are correct about the blank levels, they need another card. Also he said in the video you can only exploit one level per card per turn, that isn’t true. It clearly states in the manual you can perform an unlimited amount of additional actions on your turn. Additional actions are anything that isn’t a main action. A main action is playing a card, recruiting or buying a location.
Just bought this game because of your review! So glad I found your channel. Video production is so good! And this is even an older video.

"Tribes module"? Is that something in the Cold Waters expansion? I didn't notice this when I got the expansion.
Excited to see what you thought of the game! I really liked the sliding up mechanic
thank you!! and YES it was interesting at first...and then the more I played it, the more i loved it.
wow that card sliding is crazy, you've convinced me hahah
had this delivered yesterday, learning this morning :) 🦈🐙
I feel like this game is right up my alley. Really itching to try it! Great video as always!
One of the finest water based combo builders ever..

Love the video.
Patty and I have been enjoying this one quite a bit the past two months. I can't wait to get my hands on the Cold Waters expansion.

thank you for the video!
Can these cards be sleeved or are the notches too tight? JW

You can use each location once, but you can use more than one location card during a turn!
@@TimChuon thank you!!

@@jacobjslee yes, indeed, you need to exploit another card with the raise icon at its top, still visible level to perform a raise.
Enjoy the game!

Board doesn't hold sleeved cards 😢
With the sliding feature . Can the cards still be sleeved ? Anyone knows ?
Unlikely! I’ve tried but even really thin ones wouldn’t fit
@@TimChuonthanks for the reply :)
Way too solitaire for me
Was curious about picking up Aquatica and was so excited to see you’d reviewed it! And with a glowing recommendation at that!!! It’s so tempting… 🥲🤩
