    I honestly didn't think the overclocked 730 would do this well. Also nice find, an i7, 16gb ram and ssd for £40 is a great find

      Amazing that it was nearly a 40% overclock on the memory on the GT730! It did go higher but that was just for personal shits a giggles plus it was getting hot 😂

    Pull one of these from the trash about a year and did nothing with it. Inspired by your video I've cleaned it up and bought it back from the dead. It had an i5 vPro cpu, which I've retained, swapped out the original 8GB of ram for 32GB of Crucial Ballistix-sport 1866Mhz, added in a 2GB Radeon R7 240 gpu and a new, obligatory, SSD boot drive. The previous owner must of dumped it because it was full of fluff and probably over heating, plus the weedy onboard graphics not being up to much. Apart from the cost SSD, the rest was bits I had lying around. Running the latest Linux Mint, as a casual PC, it's pretty good for a freebee.

    For those who want a decent GPU without spending too much money look up for the Quadro K620. It's almost as good as the 750 TI but it's way cheaper. Those can usually be found for 20$ or under

    I do exactly the same. I love buying and even upgrading old tech. But then I try it on games I currently play and realise time has passed so fast… these parts aren’t how I remember them.
    Still, for the money you can build a great machine. Maybe you can do some bargain builds with strict budgets that might be able to play modern games at “acceptable” frame rates?
    What can you get for what money? What parts to focus on to make it balanced? That sort of thing

    🙂 i wouldnt consider any video card with ddr3 memory, tho im surprised that 730 is performing a bit better than it should, i can only imagine its because the cpu and ram are carrying it. Normally I would be looking at cheap radeon cards with DDR5 memory, something from HD or R7 or R9 or RX

    • @andystech101
      @andystech101  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agreed! Part of me was hoping it was the DDR5 version but alas.. the R5 430 at the super low end is probably better as it has the DDR5 memory.. tbh even a 128bit bus would have helped things here! Cheers for the comment really appreciated 😎

    Just curious what would be a good option for a budget SFF pc for casual gaming in 2024. Does anybody recommend any dell models ? How well do low profile GPU s perform and what is a good budget option.

    • @andystech101
      @andystech101  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Dell, HP, Lenovo will all work fine. Something like this is probably the best way to go if your set on SFF www.ebay.co.uk/itm/176485777177?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=VWnTw8yXR1e&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=aaM8B7ONQqS&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY LP GPUs perform no different but do run a little hotter. 1650, 1050Ti, RX6400, RTX3050 are probably the options for the most performance. Quadros are worth looking out for as well.

    This is funny stumbling on this video. I have an HP 8200 with a core i7-2600 and I put in a GT 730 to do some game testing. I’ve only just started, but Fortnite is atrocious so far. Although I didn’t do any resolution scaling yet. However, my GT 730 isn’t an OEM version, it’s an Inno3D 2 GB DDR 5 version. I know your CPU is better, but can’t imagine it being THAT much better. I’ll have to do some more tweaks to see what I can get.

    • @andystech101
      @andystech101  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s probably about the same performance with the cpu, better IPC and the ram will be running at 1600 over 1333 with Sandy. I’d probably say the GPU was 20% faster with the DDR5 not sure what your bus is? There was 64 and 128bit. Generally performance mode low, far view distance and 60% scale you should be good. Make sure you download the texture streaming package though as it will stutter like mad otherwise! Let me know the final results would be interesting to know and thanks for the comment really appreciated.

    • @Viking8888
      @Viking8888 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@andystech101 I found out why the performance on my system was so abysmal. First, I had the GPU in the x16 slot with x4 lanes. I thought the white slot was primary, but it's the black one that has all 16 lanes of pci-e 2.0. (Although the GT 730 is only a x8 pci-e 2.0 card). Second, the card in the white slot was reading pci-e 1.1 x4. When I switched the card to the black slot and rebooted the driver had to reinitialize and in GPU-Z it came up as pci-e 1.1 x4 again. I shutdown and popped the card out and reseated it and when I booted back into WIndows GPU-Z finally read it properly as pci-e 2.0 x8. When I get a chance I'll set mine up like you have yours and test and let you know what I get. Should be interesting to see how far apart the i7-2600 and i7-3770 are from each other.

    Good video. It's a good find for the money.. BUT any video card under a gtx 1050ti in 2024 is practically obsolete. 4k video is no longer rare and 2gb vram gaming is rough in 2024 even on most new AA games.

    • @andystech101
      @andystech101  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    • @voteDC
      @voteDC 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      4K isn't rare but it's still not a common resolution either. 1080p is still used by most, according to the Steam hardware survey at any rate. I've only recently gone to 1440p and that's because I didn't realise that the 30 series from Nvidia no longer had DVI ports and that the only way my old monitor could be high refresh rate.
