Forgotten Old Cars in a Private Junkyard - Junkyard Tour!

  • Hey everyone and welcome back to Iowa classic cars, today we will be walking through a private junkyard with tons of old cars and old truck that have been forgotten to time and are just rusting away in the fields of Iowa. The owner is one of the nicest guys I've ever met, and will always sell parts or cars...he's just getting up there in age so he has slowed down considerably. Please dont ask for contact info, and just appreciate the old cars for what they are! Even though they are all rusty, seeing vintage cars sitting is almost therapeutic.

One of my favorite things in life was walking through junkyards like this. The last time I remember walking through one was during the late 80's. I would really enjoy going through this one! What a job it would be to clean out all of those cars if the property was going to be used for homes or whatever.

The first car right next to the Edsel at 10:30 is a 1958 Oldsmobile 98 four door sedan which is a popular car and the next one is a1957 Olds, the 57 is a more popular car! If they're too rough to fix the parts should bring good money!

I would have to say that most of these cars were scrapped in the mid to late 1960's. I say this, because I grew up in this era, and we would still see these 1950's cars lumbering along, amongst the more streamlined cars of the 1960's. By the early 1970's it was rare to see any of these out on the roads.

That place is a gold mine! The fifty's Buick grilles and front bumpers are worth big bucks, Guys adapt them to fit their Chevy trucks! If I were you I would try to buy the old turquoise Chevy truck that is pretty rough and cut the front fenders on the grey 57 Cadillac that's hit in the front and weld the Cadillac headlight pods into the Chevy truck fenders Then go through all of the old Caddy and Buicks and see which bumper and grille will mold into the Chevy truck front end the best! Then you take a nice set of quarter panels and rear door skins off of one of the four door Cadillacs and weld them to the sides of the bed to make bed sides with fins for the truck! Plus if you do it right you can use the rear bumper too! If that place is close to you and he's good on prices you can sell a lot of those Oldsmobile, Caddy and Buick parts on line and make some good money on them! He's probably made his money and the stuff is rotting into the ground and he doesn't care that much any more!

It's great seeing this pocket of old cars. Pull every 40s and 50s vintage Buick, Cadillac, and Olds out of places like this. Whatever is reasonable and what you can afford. They are not making anymore of them. And they will get scarce, particularly in Iowa. The worst thing to happen would be if they went to the crusher.

The first car at 1:09 is a 1954 Buick because of the distinctive one year only taillights. At 6:30 it is a 1955 Buick Super or Roadmaster Riviera Coupe. At 7:10 it is a 1957 Ford Custom 300 Fordor. At 9:05 it is a 1951 Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe Wagon. At 9:15 it is a 1952 Cadillac Series 62. At 9:40 it is a 1961 Buick LeSabre Hardtop Sedan. Looks like a rare 1955 or 1956 Ford Courier Sedan Delivery in the background of that LeSabre. The 1958 Edsel is either a Ranger or Pacer 4-Door Sedan. At 14:50 it is a 1954 Ford Customline Tudor which followed the shoebox 1949 to 1951. At 15:30 it is a 1960 Rambler American 4-Door Sedan. At 15:50 it is a 1956 Oldsmobile 88 4-Door Sedan

A 51 Buick grille also came with it which was another thing that guys did to the old Fords back in the day, Also are the hubcaps still around to those old Cadillacs? Guys like those for the old Fords and other customs. They're called Sombrero hubcaps

The nice thing about owning a Mopar, is you don't have what everybody and their grandmother has. It gets pretty boring going to a car show and looking at row after row of Chevys. Isn't it much more interesting to see something unusual like Henry J, a Hudson, a Nash, a first Gen Barracuda, a rare factory Hemi Dart, or a Chrysler 300 with the cross ram intake that has a carburetor hanging out on either side out over the valve covers, rather than looking at your 100th Tri Five, Camaro, Chevelle, Impala, or Corvette of the day?
