I remember setting the points/timing on small 70s two stroke twins. It was a nightmare of a job, and if you didn't get it absolutely spot on you ended up with a hole in your piston!
+Andrew Holland great stuff. Hope all goes well with your graduation and you start earning some spare cash for your project. Completely feel your pain as sometimes life takes over how you spend your cash.
got my first project bike an "83 Kawasaki KZ 550. I plan on using the fork shortening "clip" and possibly the one about building a battery box as well. I'm commuting on it for now, but as soon as the first serious snowfall comes here in Appalachain Mts. of NC I'm going to start tearing it down. thanks for the info
Where do you find your parts for this build, and service information? I have a 79 gs 550 e and I need to find parts and pieces for it as well as reliable information. Thanks for the video mate.
a quick question, If I found a vintage fuel tank (bigger bulkier more square-ish) would the mounting "apparatus" most likely work/lineup or would it most likely have to be adapted? my guess is that it varies widely?
+Colin Patience without seeing the tank or frame, i would bet that you'd need to modify the mounts. If the length of the tank is same as the original it would be a good start, but it's never impossible.
Is the firing for that bike AFTER top dead center? To me it seems like your turning the engine backwards. I have never seen a engine with ignition AFTER top dead center. I would expect it to be somewhere between 10-20 degress BEFORE top dead center. But not all engines are built equally and this could be different.
You're very correct, the firing of this engine is before the TDC, just watched it back and it does sound wrong when I say it's after, it was only after the way I was rotating it when looking for the mark.
hey hey good video thx. i hve a question, i have a suzuki gs 750 78' and i just buy a new contact point because the old ones were realy bad. i set the 1 and 4 cylinder and dthen i wanted to set the other two and there is no complete circle when the contact point close! and i notice that the coil ( i dont know if this is right in eaglish) for the 2 and 3 cylinder is heating up! maybe some advice? thx
mitja ogorevc there are 2 screws to independently adjust the timing of 2 and 3 along with measuring gaps. Have you tried that? If the coil heats up it sounds like it's stuck on that coil. I find it happens when I'm measuring my timing and on that coil for a long time
Dreegez, I hate yur stinkin guts, lol, I've bought another project bike all because of your videos. I'll be building the new bike (82 cb750) over the winter with my 14 year old. Thanks for the inspiration my friend.
Sounds like your points aren’t opening and closing. Or even connecting a little sooner in the wiring than it needs to be. Where there’s a constant live feed.
+Sevenity Guitars all depends where you go here. London has its usual tourist spots. North wales has the snowdonia range, Liverpool & Manchester are worth visiting and also Chester as a city is beautiful.
When the light is on that means there’s a contact and a signal going to the coils. So that’s where it needs to be set. On the cusp of making a contact.
Hi. Good job and thanks to teach new thing . Iam sorry about ur old camera why don't u gift it to some one your suscriber like a bumper prize. It will make other happy from ur side .
For The Bold - dreegez oo looks really bad condition . Dose it repairable or completely dead . Actually iam intrested I shoot with my mobile nexus 5 . Thats y
Doesn't really make a difference as you're adjusting them to the markers, regardless of direction of turning the points the markers still line up tdc and retarded and advanced settings.
After following your video, my GS550 runs much better! Very grateful for your clear explanation!

Love your videos. Been watching for so long. As a broke college student, I can't wait to start my own project when I graduate!
+Andrew Holland great stuff. Hope all goes well with your graduation and you start earning some spare cash for your project. Completely feel your pain as sometimes life takes over how you spend your cash.
you Sir just saved me so much time... Funny how the repair manual for an 1978 is so vague...gratefull!
Thanks for watching

+Colin Patience awesome. Nothing like a good winter project. Warm up your workshop and head down. All the best with it #daretobuild
Hello, I am so gracefull for your videos. They help me a lot with my GS550 project. Just did not understand where this control light should come off?
it's from the signal from the points
SO nice to have you back!
+DenisChenard thanks.
You've got the same tester light that I brought of amazon last week. It wasn't long enough so I decided to extend it by about a meter
+Chetan Patel great stuff. Creative thinking ;)
Cool. keep up the good work , i look forward to it.
Thanks for the reply👍🇬🇧
A good tip is to use fine sand paper to clean those contacts for a better connection
Nice tip. These are luckily brand new points and since then been upgraded to dynatek electronic ignition.
Great job and I don't mind long vids. It helps
+Sevenity Guitars good to hear. I hope I got everything covered in this
Where do you find your parts for this build, and service information? I have a 79 gs 550 e and I need to find parts and pieces for it as well as reliable information. Thanks for the video mate.
Parts I get from Dime City Cycles and service information is all in the factory manual

And you're back in the room ...
+Jritchie Jritchie yup. At last. Waited a week for this new camera
Thank you for your build! Have you gotten the frame powder coated yet?
+S. Le I'm hoping to go tomorrow to give myself a day to film

Thanks foe the attempt. Pretty manic and too closely edited to understand. Focusing , lighting. You speak really clearly so could be amazing vid
Cool vid - educational - thanks!
+Andrew Boundy thanks for watching
Thanks so much for this

hej thx for reply. yes i tried that and is no electicity, i will change the wires maybe there is a problem>
Before you do check incase the wires in the coil are being pinched, I had that and it was shorting out.
Hi,do you by any chance have a pdf of the engine torque specs?
Sorry. Just all paper manuals
How expensive is it to replace the ignition points with an electronic setup?
+thewindthatshakesbar you're probably looking around £170 mark for a Dynatek system
Thanks!

+James Smith ha. The one time I don't mind being hated. Awesome though to have a winter project with your 14 year old
Can you tell me why my light is burning constantly when I connect it like you did while turning the bolt?
Sounds like your points aren’t opening and closing. Or even connecting a little sooner in the wiring than it needs to be. Where there’s a constant live feed.
@@forthebold cab I send you a picture of the situation?
@@forthebold points are opening and closing
In that case if question where do exactly you’re connecting too or if there is enough gap.
@@forthebold I'll just check everything again.
Is there a deep V neck version of the new shirt?
+Nick Suess I'd love it if there was ;) there is a v beck version but not a super deep v
Well it's a good start haha.
What do u recommend in the U.K. To see? Where are u at in the U.K.

My light is on all the way round then goes off at the F mark?
Classic brittish weather

+nitin walia a good thought but I don't think it would go down well. It doesn't even switch on!
For The Bold - dreegez oo looks really bad condition . Dose it repairable or completely dead . Actually iam intrested I shoot with my mobile nexus 5 . Thats y
+nitin walia its completely dead and no lenses.
You're doing it wrong. The engine turns clockwise. Try using the kick starter, you'll see. Your adjustments are all off because of that
Doesn't really make a difference as you're adjusting them to the markers, regardless of direction of turning the points the markers still line up tdc and retarded and advanced settings.
