Bowser has always reminded me of Pete from any Mickey Mouse stuff. Sometimes he’s super evil, and sometimes he’s your next door neighbor who might be a little rude
I really love that of all the characters in the Nintendo Canon, bowser is the one they use for parental controls. He's a dad. He's a single dad, which means that he's likely a bit busier than most to naturally set boundaries with games, so he's the perfect use case for parental controls. He's the villain so, which fits for how some kids might view them as mean. I just think it's really sweet that he gets to be the Nintendo icon for dad trying his best.

i’d be interested to see a graph where the the rank of the characters is on the x axis (with 1st place at the leftmost placement, the 2nd, 3rd… etc) and the number of votes on the y axis and see the kind of trend the graph makes. a common trend that can appear in data like this is that the graph will roughly follow y = a* 1/x, where a is just some constant. this means that 2nd place would have roughly half as many votes as first, and third would have about a third as many as first. this is known as zipfs law and is pretty fascinating. bc of zipfs law, it’s not too surprising that luigi got nearly twice the amount of votes as bowser sorry i’m an engineer and got my minor mathematics so this was one of the first things i thought of with such a large sample size
did some quick research to fact check myself, and zipf’s law may not necessarily be applicable here. while it can have broader applications, it’s mainly used to map word usage frequency in languages. more likely the graph would follow a Pareto distribution (which is how we get the saying that 80% of the work is done by 20% of the people, or that 80% of wealth is owned by 20% of people). in the case of the video, a large percentage of the votes would be owned by a small percentage of the characters

As someone who’s always liked Waluigi since I was a kid, he’s such an interesting case study. Without having any main line appearances or his own main game, he’s really been cemented as one of the 10 main characters in Mario. I feel like any list of main Mario characters without him doesn’t feel right. I hope some day he either gets a main line appearance or into smash The 10 to me: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Daisy, Rosalina, Wario, Waluigi, Toad, and Yoshi
I'd place Donkey Kong as one of the main 10 over Rosalina, Rosalina was a later addition to the cast and though she's made countless appearances since Galaxy I still see her as more of a secondary character than part of the main cast. It could also be argued that Birdo and Toadette could be added to make a main 12.
Let's be real, Waluigi only scored this high because of the memes. He's the Big the Cat of Mario, originally derided because he looks weird, has a weird voice and seems like an irrelevant addition to the cast, now celebrated for all the same reasons. Not that I *don't* want to see him and Wario in stuff like Mario&Luigi, but this is clearly less about what Nintendo has actually done with the character and more what the fandom got out of him.

You have no idea how happy it makes me to see Vivian making it all the way to 16th. Obviously I know she's always been a well-loved character, but to make it _this_ far? Above every other RPG exclusive, outranked solely by mainstays like Luigi and Bowser? For a character who has only had one true appearance in the entire franchise (I hope that changes in the future...), that is absolutely awesome. Not to say I don't love other characters in the RPGs (certified Fawful fan), but Vivian is just such a wonderful and sweet character, definitely a contender for my favourite Mario character of all despite her rarity in the series, and I'm glad she continues to receive so much love. Glad to see K. Rool made it to the top 50 as well. I know some write him off as a Bowser clone, but as anyone who is actually familiar with him will know, he's a lot more than that.

i’d be interested to see a graph where the the rank of the characters is on the x axis (with 1st place at the leftmost placement, the 2nd, 3rd… etc) and the number of votes on the y axis and see the kind of trend the graph makes. a common trend that can appear in data like this is that the graph will roughly follow y = a* 1/x, where a is just some constant. this means that 2nd place would have roughly half as many votes as first, and third would have about a third as many as first. this is known as zipfs law and is pretty fascinating. bc of zipfs law, it’s not too surprising that luigi got nearly twice the amount of votes as bowser
sorry i’m an engineer and got my minor mathematics so this was one of the first things i thought of with such a large sample size
did some quick research to fact check myself, and zipf’s law may not necessarily be applicable here. while it can have broader applications, it’s mainly used to map word usage frequency in languages. more likely the graph would follow a Pareto distribution (which is how we get the saying that 80% of the work is done by 20% of the people, or that 80% of wealth is owned by 20% of people). in the case of the video, a large percentage of the votes would be owned by a small percentage of the characters

As someone who’s always liked Waluigi since I was a kid, he’s such an interesting case study. Without having any main line appearances or his own main game, he’s really been cemented as one of the 10 main characters in Mario. I feel like any list of main Mario characters without him doesn’t feel right. I hope some day he either gets a main line appearance or into smash
The 10 to me: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Daisy, Rosalina, Wario, Waluigi, Toad, and Yoshi
I'd place Donkey Kong as one of the main 10 over Rosalina, Rosalina was a later addition to the cast and though she's made countless appearances since Galaxy I still see her as more of a secondary character than part of the main cast. It could also be argued that Birdo and Toadette could be added to make a main 12.
Let's be real, Waluigi only scored this high because of the memes. He's the Big the Cat of Mario, originally derided because he looks weird, has a weird voice and seems like an irrelevant addition to the cast, now celebrated for all the same reasons. Not that I *don't* want to see him and Wario in stuff like Mario&Luigi, but this is clearly less about what Nintendo has actually done with the character and more what the fandom got out of him.
I feel like Toadette or Bowser Jr deserves a spot on here but idk

Like the whole set up is incomplete without a brother for Wario, it just took a tennis game for us to know it. You have no idea how happy it makes me to see Vivian making it all the way to 16th. Obviously I know she's always been a well-loved character, but to make it _this_ far? Above every other RPG exclusive, outranked solely by mainstays like Luigi and Bowser? For a character who has only had one true appearance in the entire franchise (I hope that changes in the future...), that is absolutely awesome. Not to say I don't love other characters in the RPGs (certified Fawful fan), but Vivian is just such a wonderful and sweet character, definitely a contender for my favourite Mario character of all despite her rarity in the series, and I'm glad she continues to receive so much love.

But I wouldn't be so sure about all of this if not for the profile picture. The character is Astolfo from the Japanese light novel series Fate/Apocrypha. He is an effeminately presenting man, which has attracted the attention of many... fans. Characters of this type are extremely popular among Western fans of Japanese media. From here, it doesn't take much imagination to draw a connection between the username and the profile picture.
