Yep. I'm a 90's kid. For me, when I think 20 years ago, the 70's or 80's comes to mind. Not the 90's or early 2000's. The 2000's (like 2000 to 2005) is what I think of when 5 years ago comes to mind. And now it seems odd that I'm now the same age or slightly older as everyone in the cast when the first Fast & Furious released. I'm probably about the same age now as Vin Diesel was when the first movie came out. I think Vin was already in his early 30's when he did the first Fast & Furious while the rest of the cast members were mid to late 20's.
I must've watched a different Fast & Furious since I recall the first movie focusing on hijacking semis and Paul Walker trying to stop the hijackings than all kinds of street racing action. The Fast & Furious I saw and keep seeing whenever I re-watch it or re-buy it (VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray) only has one major street race at the beginning and then the rest of the movie is Paul Walker getting to know all these street racers, ends up in a relationship with Dom's sister, and then trying to put a stop to all these semi hijackings. Plus VERY quick/minor races that last like 20 seconds each. I'd actually call those "races" than races. The only movie I ever recall focusing heavily on the races is Tokyo Drift, but even then the main plot is some teenager having to go live with his dad in a new city/town/country altogether and fit in.
Dayum! 20 years of Fast and the Furious. Going from stealing VHS players to eventually preventing WWIII with vehicles alone and now the 9th film has shown it they're finally going into god damn space! Crazy how far this series has gone.
3:22 Agreed it sure is a munch better film then "Point Break" from 1991 IMHO. 11:27 Nah that was Justin Lin first crack at the series which is my #2 favorite after Fast Five Rob Cohen last film was Alex Cross which is very underrated IMHO. I agree 10000% with you about this film and the franchise in general why couldn't they just stopped at Fast Five which had the perfect ending for the series IMHO. Solid job on the review bro RIP Paul Walker.
I Love The Fast & The Furious it’s one of my Favorites Of The Franchise, Love The Action, Story, Cast, Paul Walker R.I.P, Vin Diesel, & Michelle Rodriguez were Great, I Love Rob Cohen he’s one of my Favorite Directors
It was never about racing cars. The first movie was about Brian trying to investigate all these semi truck hijackings and all the evidence the LAPD and FBI gathered led him to the street racing world. 2 Fast 2 Furious was about bringing down some drug/crime lord. 4th movie was something similar, plus getting revenge for Letty's death. Tokyo Drift was probably the only one about street racing, but it focused more on a teen being forced to move to a new place/country and trying to fit in. Fast Five was all about being on the run and trying to steal money from a drug/crime lord so they could buy new identities and start a new life. ALSO, it's called character development too. These characters went from racing cars and getting in trouble to being recruited to do good things with their skills. Plus there was a slow progression. It didn't happen "overnight." Fast Five, Hobbs got an idea what everyone could do, 6 he recruited them (fight fire with fire or whatever you want to call it, I think Hobbs said to find wolves you need wolves), then in 7 Mr. Nobody came across what Hobbs learned and recruited everyone, and then things went from there. But if everyone stuck to being street racers, it would be like saying high school students can NEVER graduate and move on to college or get jobs related to their college degrees, or kids can never grow up or a governor cannot end up president, or someone can't go from stocking shelves to being the store manager, or Bruce Wayne could never grow up to become Batman. And the first movie was never about racing because it took me like 5 watches to finally like the movie and "get" the love for it. I was VERY disappointed that there wasn't much street racing. I thought there would be several race scenes like the one in the beginning. But the movie was all about trying to stop some people that were hijacking semis.
18:31 yeah about that, I guarantee that there is gonna be a twist in one of these new sequels whether it be part 10 or part 11, where turns out Don’s father is not dead and he survived the crash after all. I guarantee with how fast and furious are running out of ideas, they are gonna pull that twist very soon.
Would be interesting to see how they pull it off because 9 heavily focuses on flashbacks to how Dom, Mia, and Cena's dad dies. They better not pull a Mr. Nobody used a hologram like what they did to explain how Han survives either. But with how they show Dom's dad die, there was no way for him to get out of that car. It launches into the air and blows up (if I remember 9 correctly). I know they do alter the facts by saying that Dom's dad actually threw the race and knew he was going to die. But with the whole situation, I don't know how the dad could've survived and Mr. Nobody uses a hologram. There was probably a few points in the car chase in Tokyo Drift where Han could've jumped out of the car and be replaced by a hologram, but someone would've had to see Dom's father jump out and be replaced by a hologram. Unless he was a hologram the whole time and right before the race started. So it should be interesting. Hopefully Dom's dad (I want to say his name is Jack, which explains why Brian and Mia's son is named Jack) remains dead for 10 and 11. If they are going to revive any other dead characters, it better be Giselle/Gal Gadot. If Statham's brother could survive be launched out of a plane, Giselle should be able to survive her fall. Plus I think Statham's brother had a worse/brutal death than Giselle.
Great review, I enjoyed the first film too, though it's been a long time since I've seen it. And you're right, it was very mundane and simple compared to what the later films became. The franchise has overstayed its welcome, but it will never end. I bet in Fast 10, they'll be time-travelling or racing against superheroes-the sky's no longer the limit!
2 Fast 2 Furious is my favorite the only one I saw on DVD and watched Tokyo Drift and the 1st one years later they should've stopped at 7 was a perfect ending
The Fast and Furious franchise 1. 8/10 2. 6/10 3. 4/10 4. 7/10 5. 8/10 6. 9/10 7. 9/10 8. 6/10 Hobbs and Shaw. 7/10 Hopefully Fast 9 does not try to be a superhero film, I am getting tired of all of the superhero stuff. They should have ended the series after Paul Walker last film.
I don't know if Bloodshot was going to flop anyway, but a good part of the reason it did was because the whole world went into lockdown at that point. The Hunt came out at that same time and flopped because of the lockdown. I will note that I saw The Hunt in theaters, by the way.
Yeah I never thought this would become the franchise we have now. Fast 1 the first one I ever saw and saw it in 2001 on pay per view later that year and enjoyed it. I’ve always have been and I’d say I was already big fan before the franchise blew up. Fast and furious 1 actually has always been my favorite besides fast 5. Funny thing is at the time I didn’t care about 2 fast 2 furious because I thought you didn’t need a sequel and look what happened lol. I like fast 2 now and most of the others. It might have been a remake of point break but this was my point break since I still haven’t seen the actual point break movie.
While I like 2,5,6&8 more this is still a fun action film with great performances from Vin Diesel and Paul Walker (RIP), fun action scenes & great and likable characters this film still holds up it will definitely hold up more than F9 this franchise honestly needs stop even though I enjoy most them it doesn't need 9 or 10 films I do wish they end the franchise in a good note but yeah the first film was a pretty good start for the franchise
It's pretty wild it feels like 1-3 While Fast and furious 2009 feel from now on feel like 2 different franchises lol Last thing I saw Rob Cohen direct was the Hurricane hiest and that Sucked mind you I've heard allegations against him
I'm just curious why didn't you like Babylon A.D.? I can kind of sympathize because I know it got a lot of crap from critics, so it doesn't sound like it's supposed to be that good.
I wish Paul Walker was still here the fast movies just don't feel the same without him you don't have the dom and Brian freindship anymore Wich sucks fourious 7 was the perfect way to send Paul walker off that ending still makes me year up fourious 7 should've been the end to the series perfect way to end the series do you agree with me matt
One of those movies that grew on me and got better with each watch for me, crazy going back to this and hearing Vin Diesel talk normally and not that mumble growl he uses now lmao, Paul Walker was really awesome in this and I also miss him, Also really enjoy the soundtrack especially the stuff from Saliva, Ja Rule, BT and Dope
I managed to watch a CAM of Fast & Furious 9. It is complete trash. And it wasn't because things got too ridiculous. When it comes to me, I can roll with someone falling from a 40-story building and living, so it doesn't bother me how ridiculous these Fast & Furious movies get. 9's biggest issue is the plot/story and even the McGuffin. The plot is a complete mess and all over the place. Every other scene they are in a new location/part of the world. They jump around so much I can't even recall where the final battle takes place. Also, the movie focuses too heavily on flashbacks and setting up why Dom and John Cena hate each other. The McGuffin gets lost in everything also. Best way to summarize stuff is "hey, we got this McGuffin we should probably get back to." Then throw in the McGuffin isn't all that interesting either. 9 was the first movie too where I was sitting there asking "where is this going?" NEVER had to ask that with a previous Fast & Furious movie. They establish stuff pretty early. Oh and then like an hour in I realized I wasn't all that entertained, especially with asking where things were going plot wise. The action is fine and I can handle the ridiculousness of it, but the plot is just so uninteresting and a mess that it just makes the action unexciting and boring. The ONLY good part of Fast & Furious 9 is Han's return. I'm fine with how they explained they brought him back too. But Han was pretty much the best part of 9. Oh and 9 feels more like Fast & Furious 8.5. WAY too much setup for 10 and 11. It's like 10 is the true Fast & Furious 9 and 9 is just 8.5 or something. At least 9 didn't ruin things for me. I still want to see 10 and 11, and I'm still a fan of these movies. Oh and Charlize Theron was wasted in 9. In Fate Of The Furious they build her up to be this huge threat, but then in 9 she doesn't get to do jack since Cena has her locked up. And then when she finally gets to do something, they make it seem like she gets a really lame death. Nope. Turns out she is still at Cena's base and is piloting some drone fighter jet that Dom blows up. Like I said, too much set up for 10 and 11 in 9. Now we have to wait until 10 or 11 to see her be more of a threat. I wanted more of her in 9. Trailers were misleading too that Charlize and Cena were going to team up. They never do. Cena just has her locked up in a glass/see-through cell. So yeah. 9 was VERY disappointing.
Part 8 was more mature than 9 but it still sucked trust me. I’m in the point that not only that I want to watch NXT again (even tho I don’t want too) but I also wanna see Banshee again. Cause at least that show does make me hype in every category. I wanna see the origins version now cause F9 broke my heart
I will always enjoy this movie and watching it makes me miss Paul Walker even more, but Fast Five is still my favorite of these films aswell as Furious 6.
@@Neopunk2023 they just get worse and worse especially Hobbs and Shaw having Idris Elba have bulletproof skin and now they go to space in a car and can drive across a swinging wooden bridge. I'd also love to know why Dom has a white brother all of a sudden makes no sense.
