Wow, if I had that dress I would wear it everywhere - the supermarket, taking the cat on a walk, getting a take-out pizza, and even be buried in it. I adore it!
I can't remember where I heard this, but all tones and shade of green look good together to our human eye, because all colors of green exist together in nature! beautiful gown! !!!
This really is the perfect gown in which to flee from a murder scene leaving behind a man with no voice and wearing jewels that are not your own (and I mean this in the most complimentary way)
I just wanted to say Thank you for sharing your work and skill, I have been sewing as a hobby over 54 years. Your workmanship is not only exquisite but exceptional considering this modern day and age. I my self have used a Singer Featherweight and a Wilcox & Gibbs, I still believe they sew the best and our older machines are better built. So nice to see the basting and prep work you do, I have hand sewn and basted all of my work over the years and you and see the difference in the finished product. I know I'm not the only guy out there that sews but just nice to see others that have the same passion for a quality garment. Thank you JMB
I'm obsessed with the multiple greens and the stomacher details. It's perfect. The flounce in the back collar really adds a nice touch. Also, your videos inspired me to visit my local bead store and decorate some of my clothes. I have some fun green beads now and am percolating ideas of how to decorate my day wear.
I love seeing your projects come together, Bianca, and your videos are simultaneously calming and absolutely riveting! I think the Mandragora projects and your Crimson Peak inspired dressing gown/housecoat have been my favorites thus far. I modified the heck out of the TV291 walking skirt pattern to curve the bottom third of the front seams and create a wide flared circular hem flounce, creating a kind of hybrid of the practical roomy hip of a standard walking skirt, but with the flared trumpet-ish hem of the late 1890s. It meant a lot of cutting, spreading, taping, frustration, and redoing on my living room floor before I could even touch the fabric, but the skirt now just needs the hem facing and waistband, and I’m so excited to wear it when it’s finished! Your projects and almost magically effortless pattern manipulation inspire me, so I would like to offer a heartfelt thank you.
When I was a kid, we watched a lot of PBS...there was an interior designer from Georgia, I think, that had a show on there (in the halcyon days before cable existed). I remember clearly that she said all shades of blue, green, and peach go with themselves (all blues go together, all greens.... you get the idea, I'm sure)...in case you wanted a professional designer's opinion on your loves. ^^
So inspiring. I’m going to be recreating the Pennywise costume from IT (2017) for my Halloween costume this year, and your Victorian costuming videos have given me tons of ideas, especially the interlining process and your puff sleeves.

Absolutely stunning! you make it seem SO ‘easy and achievable’ … mere mortals such as ourselves can only dream of wearing a gown of pure perfection (I would even forgo my paralyzing fear of spiders!!)
I feel like there's an opportunity for more beetle brooches in surprising locations, like on your shoulder, or the tiny back "peplum", or peeking out from under a flounce. If you aren't freaking people out for at least a couple seconds thinking that you have a bug on you, are you really taking full advantage of beetle brooches?
So beautiful! I really love the touch you added with all the beaded bugs on the stomacher piece. I would love to see an Art Nouveau themed costume sometime! Art Nouveau is my fav 🥰
Don't forget that, once clothing was basically no longer usable as clothing, it was cut up into rags for other uses, quilts being one of them and I'm sure things like baby clothes and such. My mother is 89 now and still actively quilts, and one of the most popular requests are "memorial quilts" that consist of quilt blocks that came from the dearly departed's favorite clothing. I have two quilts myself made from my Dad's dress shirts. Mom will often embroider favorite quotes of theirs as well, onto the blocks. Anyway, just thought I'd throw that out there, as back in old days fabric was very valuable, even if it comes from a ratty old shirt or skirt that's unwearable anymore. I just love this series--the idea of an overlay of lace and beaded bugs is fabulous!
Hi Bianca, I am about half way through! This is like watching intense labour! That fabric is amazing. Just watched the bias tape maneuver. Exquisite. I take your episodes very seriously. I look forward to you getting some great portraits in your gown, but already I’m so excited! The bodice with the details on the front and the back are all incredible, but the stomacher!!!! OMG ❤️
wonderful! as perfect as any costume i've ever seen in hollywood, you are that good! also interesting to discover that chiffon is sooo hard to work with, yet every movie star in vintage hollywood was dressed in it. will appreciate the labor involved even more when i watch classic films

I love the stomacher, it's got so much texture. I think it would also be a good way to make the bodice front closing - a row of hooks and eyes or lacing underneath, and then the stomacher hooks as a kind of flap over it - for dressing without a ladies' maid. Also, thanks for showing how you drafted the flounces, that was great!
