One advantage of RTH at a 'safe' height is that the drone also gets strong GPS once it gets clear of trees, etc. So 100m might challenge the battery life but will make the return good - assuming the signal at home was strong enough in the first place... As you say, it's worth taking the time to make sure 'Home' is strongly established.
Is there much of a point in having RTH using only your phone? Because you can only fly approx 50m away without the actual controller (meaning it’ll most likely remain in your VLOS)
@@wesleyp3579when controlling the drone with phone in a close proximity, a wind can drift it suddenly, without rth it will stay where it is for you to come near. But if it is beyond a fence or a cliff or over water it will wait there until the battery is dead and land wherever it is. So a rth is crucial for users with no controllers. Also it is a very basic feature which I had 7 years ago on a very cheap drone
I have to remind myself that I'm playing in the dji world of drones. Because I laugh when people say a 200 dollar drone doesn't have obstacle avoidance and the camera isn't air 3 quality 😂😂
I would be a bit concerned about setting a really high RTH altitude with the Neo as the winds that high can be much higher than on the ground. Very good video.
Of course, if you are flying WITHOUT any sort of controller, or just with your phone, things are very different. If for some reason the Neo flys, or is blown, out of range, it will not return to you.
The RTH features works just like on the bigger drones. But if I understand correctly, there is no RTH unless you are using a controller. Great video Shawn, thanks for sharing.
That is correct Ron only when using a controller. I do believe there is a version coming at some point for the mobile. It’ll probably come with a firmware update.
If its windy and your drone is really on battery...will return to home still work? My drone was low on battery and about 30 metres in the air and return was activated as seen on my rc2 controller but it felt like it was just hovering up there FOREVER. I panicked then tried to manually controll it which made it worse....almost lamded on the roof
Hey Shawn! You are providing lots of Vicarious Neo Flights for US Customers pining to GET THE DAMN THING! I am NOT enamored by RTH on Aircraft with essentially no OA
Not realy, unless you foolishly fly too far from home or in windier conditions than recommended in the instructions, but you can't blame the drone for decisions the operator makes.
If only it could be updated to RTH when using your mobile as a controller! If your signal gets blocked or your phone dies, it will just land where ever it is… eventually.
the worst thing about DJI return to home is that stupid beeping. Why did anyone think this is a good idea. I have just gotten used to shutting the controller down to silence the beeping and turn it back on when I here the drone getting closer.
Indeed, first generation there’s always improvements and enhancements that can be done. Personally, though in my opinion, I think it’s a fantastic deal for the price. There’s no other drone on the market for this price that has the capabilities. And versatility. I don’t think it’s gonna be of interest to cinematic flyers. But for new pilots or people who just want to capture for their blogs I think it’s a brilliant device. I just spent the last hour using capturing some for review that I’m working on

Thanks Shawn! Maybe there will be update to RTH on the phone app in the future.👌👊
I really hope so. There was some notes that there was a visual return to home or home recognition in the app. So perhaps that is coming.

It should be a nobrainer for DJI to add RTH for people using just the mobile phone with DJI NEO.
For the low price people seem to want all the features of a 1k drone, not going to happen so buy the controller

Nice demo of RTH! Thanks!
Queen...one of the best bands of all time.

I liked you did the range test in that forest area, putting O4 to the test and giving ~1 Km as result which accomplishes my requirements 👍
Thank you!

Great information, thanks. I received mine a couple of days ago, loving it
Great to hear!
This video is perfect ! Thank you sir !

Great video unique content but essential
Another good video ❤
Glad you enjoyed

Good 1 Shawn
Nice video….i really want a drone but the Neo video quality isn’t good to me….❤❤❤love your channel
Hi which button should I press to return home with my rc n3 remote pls?
Do you want the button to the left of the mode selector. The one that has the pause button. Press and hold it.
@@AirPhotography thank you. Will try it on my next flight.
What is Return to Subject? I've seen it briefly mentioned once but not explained or demonstrated.
I think that is a version of return to home when using the mobile app I don’t believe it’s available yet.
I wish you could do return to home using the phone
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 thanks
Is there a RTH function on the phone app ?
Not yet, but I do believe one will be coming
Love you
if no controller but only a smartphone ?
Yes, you can connect it to a smart phone and fly with virtual joysticks
@AirPhotography and when you don't have connectivity anymore. The drone will automatically come back to your smartphone?
@AirPhotography what is the officiel app in the Play store on android ? There are millions of DJI app and full of Chinese adds...
You put NEO in RTH to fly up 100m and than go back? I'd say it is a way to sat good bye to such light drone. ..
It does not too bad in the wind of course you can adjust that on days that are a little windier

Telefon dan kullanıyorum bende neden rth yok uydu ya bağlanmıyor
Unfortunately, at this point, there’s not a return to home and flying with just a smart phone. Hopefully that will be added with a firmware update.
Before turn home hope battery dont finish... 18 min is so less... at least it shoulf be 30 min... :(
Not working its drift away from home position

Christ that makes a row hardly people friendly
thanks for video .. but this one is not worth 200 usd ... will wait for next gen .. this one need lots of improve ..
It’s pocket change
Brilliant drone for the market it's aimed at.
@@philipk9783 got you but i think need improve
@@jorisv207 i bought and send it back was very limited .. in wind its a dissaster

Watching this on my 4K tv. Damn the quality is so bad lol😂
You do realise none of the footage shown here was directly from the drone, it was recorded on the RC 2 controller.
