hi everyone!! i hope you're having a great day! how are all of your projects going? i love hearing about all the details
Kia ora! I'm currently trying to finish some adhd-stalled projects before the weekend. Would you maybe be able to let us know what brand/thickness of embroidery thread that is? Or even an Amazon link in your details to it if you have time? Thanks so much for these videos, they're so great!!
I'm gardening! I'm in the US so it's spring!
youll find all my projects on my channel - just started another kawandi freestyle quilt - thats so much fun!
I swear, Carly is the most refreshing person to watch
Carly before you start your bigger hand sewing project, get yourself a leather thimble. They are comfortable and they mold to your finger over time. You could honestly make one for yourself if you got a scrap of soft leather. Just make sure you are covering your “pusher” finger to protect it from the needle.
Loved your hoodie. So thoughtful. I bet it’s going to be comfortable as hell once he breaks it in a bit. Who doesn’t want to be wrapped in a hand stitched quilt all day!?!
My life just came full circle because Vancouver sleep clinic was something I listened to every day. Been watching your videos for the past couple weeks and what a wild connection!
I've listened to your brother's music for years now! What a world... Curious to know his reaction to this amazing gift. Loved the colors and the technique. I am still gathering the courage (and money) to buy a machine and start sewing... Always glad to see your makings.
I am a 50yo sewist who loves your videos! So wish they had been around when I was younger, I would have been so inspired! Also using a thimble will make a huge difference to protecting your fingers when quilting - they are a game changer!!
I hope we get to see your brother loving wearing his hoody!!!
Hello! experienced tailor here. genuinely OBSESSED with your own thought process and method, i must say first. honestly take a pic of it so u don't forget that because that more stylized approach is sick. ok now i do want to actually help u so you also have the other way of doin it, added to ur roster of seam finishing's.
for 100 percent secureness, sew the bias tape right sides together with the seam allowance. then turn the bias tape over and under the seam when pressed flat. then sew in the ditch so that the stitch line is hidden. the second way is more like u guessed! simply sandwich the seam allowance between the bias tape and sew away! Personally i find this way harder cuz u gotta be good at aligning the bias perfectly and a lot of times u gotta go back and re-stitch shit. not my favorite.
Oh my goodness, I love your brother’s music! I listen to someone to stay on repeat constantly
I think you solved the seam issue great!
I would have done a flat felled finish. (right sides together, trim one seam allowance, wrap the other seam allowance around it and stitch down through all layers) This seam is very strong as well. You could also trim the batting before doing this for a super flat finish.
Love the hoodie!!
I ADORE that hoodie you made for your brother. Such a thoughtful gift, he must be thrilled! When you talkad about letting the fabric ”speak to you” I knew exactly what you meant, it’s this organic way of patchwork that I love and do myself. I also love how you have this vision of your brother’s vibe and create according to that.
As several others have recommended, always use a thimble when you handsew 😊
currently 04:30am in the UK. Doing night shifts suck, but tonight's shift was blessed with the drop of a new video just as I started my break. what a treat!! Thank you for bringing sunshine and creativity to my days Carly!
Oh my goodness what a talented couple of siblings you two are! I love what both of you create!
hi carly, i am ALWAYS using thimbles when sewing with hand - slowstitching, quilting, embroidery... ALWAYS! I am using a clover silicon thimble and a clover silicon finger thingy for the pointing finger. that makes getting the needle through so easy and no pain at all! It also depeds what kind of needle you are using. for quilting i recommend pony needles - but i am also using milliners no. 3 a lot or bigger, if i am using thicker thread! you can find my favorite supplies in a video on my channel! i love the hoodie - always impressed how you just do it! keep going girl!
Just in case you're interested in exploring it further (I am making my first quilt!) a lot of hand quilters that like thicker thread use size 12 thread. Normal sewing thread is like... size 40 I think. It can come in lots of colors including gradients and multicolors! The two brands I know of are aurafil and wonderfil. I'm sure there are others.
omg you humming while you sewed was so cute!
I've listened to your brother's music for a while! Collapse is my favourite song 🥹 You are both so talented!
I used to get sad/mad when my husband didn’t like clothes I made him, but I’ve learned I just can’t get mad about what someone wants to wear. So I’ll usually gift them again to a guy friend who will love them!
Love this! I made a small quilt recently with a big stitch technique, and I love how it turned out. Your project reminded me that I definitely want to do that again, but for a bigger project.
You need a Sashiko thimble when quilting with such big thread. Just a thought. I embroider and a thimble is a must for thick threads and very think fabric.
Cotton Perle No. 8 by DMC is lovely too.
this is hilarious; I also just finished a jacket for my brother AND I'm working on a quilt lolol
love how this make turned out! bias binding is attached using one of the wings to the right side (right sides together), then folded over to the other side. you can either just stitch it down on the machine or carefully whip stitch them down if you don't want the bias tape showing on the front side
You would probably love Cherrywood fabric! It's all hand dyed with tons of variation, like the piece of fabric you said you loved.
Looks great, I bet it will be well loved. The hand stitching was worth it, get yourself a leather thimble!
Really nice! I love it! well done! you brother is lucky you care so much! ❤
This is the second time I've found out a youtuber who sews has a brother that makes music that I like, but I had no idea they were related. It's a very weird coincidence
Now I'm curious, who is the other one 👀?
@marikunastudio Micarah Tewers! Her brother Landon Tewers is the lead vocalist in the band The Plot in You, and he has his own solo music too
@@jaydenb2425 Aaah yes of course! All-round creative families :)
@@marikunastudio For sure! The creativity and talent run in the family in both cases
i love your curtains !!! also great video i love the sleeves and the way the hood crosses over at the front of the collar :)
I didn’t think you could get cooler but your brother???!? VSC? How neat is that! His music is incredible & that hoodie is such a vibe!
Well done ! I absolutely loved it. Your inventiveness and confidence is really inspiring you got to go for it he don't go for it nothing happens and I can tell you a lot about that
Such a beautiful garment ❤ congrats.
Hi Carly!
Recently, my two main projects are my kids 😅
So my sewing projects need to wait very patiently at the moment. But watching your joyful videos makes me wanna dive right into sewing instantly 😊
Thank you for being you! ❤️
Also, the love for your brother is so beautiful ♥️
Your original designed earth-toned hoodie is spectacular!
You need a leather thimble for hand sewing! Saved my fingers in university.
Oh my God that's amazing and I'm positive he absolutely loved it! The sleeve finishing is so cool.
Sibling love makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Im one of 6 and we're all super close ❤
20:33 me whenever i get my self into sewing projects that end up taking double of the time i planned 😅 loved the result!!! Nothing says “I love you” like a hand made gift 🫶🏻
Greetings from Mexico city ✨
I love your Videos and the way you present your ideas!!! You are so creative and such a nice person
I just finished making a sewn gift, too! What a coincidence. This was such a lovely and thoughtful present for your dear brother. I love all your videos, Carly! 💖 I am currently on my sewing grind. I have finished 3 sewing projects this month so far. Your videos always motivate me as I sew.
I really wasn’t expecting to like the jumper, but it’s delightful
I found you a couple of days ago and I am OBSESSED with your work, your vibe, your colors and your energy! You are magical❤ Thank you for sharing your work!
I love the way this one turned out! Such a cool look.
It turned out absolutely gorgeous! I love the colours and the hand stitching gives it such a nice texture.
LOL, I feel you! When my machine F#@ks up i literally throw it in the trash. So many of my machines got the frustrated toss to the bin. I should really invest in a Juki, SMH
Awesome job! I made a quilt coat in the past and just had some flappy bias bound seams that I stitched to the seam allowance for the armholes and I did a similar thing to what you did for the other seams. The big difference I did was I used a bias bind for my hem and centre front opening so avoid excess bulk at the hem.
I love your sewing setup, very professional iron and sewing machine. Love the hand stitching!
Why are you so absolutely adorable??
Yay! You make me smile! I just did a happy dance when I saw your new video. I just finished re-watching your collar video as I just made one! Looking forward to watching this one. I have so much scrap sweatshirt fabric.
INCREDIBLE!
Looks brilliant. Best present!
Love it!
love everything you do!
It is beautiful! You made that! 😮😍
YOU DID AMAZING!
This is making me want to make one for myself now 💕
I feel like when I do bias seam finishing I end up with bias bound nubbins which can then be flat felled down, but I really like how flat your technique turned out. Also loving the curved patchwork you did! Definitely need to incorporate that in my next quilt
Sewing buttons on a Zero Waste dress (pattern by Birgitta Helmerson) and enjoying your designing and sewing process!
It looks so cute! For your big quilt project later this year, I really recommend getting some sort of thimble, it’s going to save your fingers and sanity haha
looks really cute and comfy and stylish! Did your brother like it?
Hi Carly! I’ve never commented in your videos but I have to say I feel like you’re so fun and your projects are so inspiring! I got inspired this week to make a quilted soccer ball for my best friend’s baby, which apparently requires me to learn English Paper Piecing. It’ll be an adventure!
Update: I made the ball! It turned out great!
it is sooo cooool😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
hey dear love your videos! would u show us you making some princessy dress!? you have a beautiful studio. thank u for all the beautiful content. 💜💜💜💜
❤️❤️❤️
I'm sorry, do you have an *industrial* sewing machine??? Amazing, wow. Goals.
also the hoodie looks great!
PLEASE, TELL ME YOU RECORDED HIS REACTION
Love it! How did he like it?
Oh, Carly! It's GORGEOUS!!! 🥰 Does he like it?! So generous of you to do a pattern breakdown! 🥹💗 I'll be heading over to see that! 👍🏻 I don't get on with thimbles, but have found that covering my needle-pushing finger with sticking plaster (don't know if that's what you call it in Australia? The sticky stuff you put on a grazed knee) works brilliantly! Just downloaded the Vancouver Sleep Clinic's playlist on Spotify and like what I've heard so far! ⭐ Bit Coldplay-ish I think. 😍 Lots of love and hugs, Deb xx 🤗💕 PS. I think this tutorial: th-cam.com/video/SFYq2TbvNBA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_ol--80R4UYhU_dD has the kind of binding you want. It's a gorgeous project and a she's a lovely lady, but if you just want the binding bit it's about 10 minutes in. 🤗🤗
once you have connected all the pieces, doesn't that mean that the hand stitching is secure with that line of stitching? would you need to keep the seam allowance?
ALSO THIMBLE USE A THIMBLE LEARN HOW the hand pain will never cease if u dont (XO
Hi! Can someone tell me exactly what the fine cotton yarn is called or brands? I’m looking it up and only think ones come up. Thank you!
So I can’t just buy the pattern? I have to subscribe to patrion? I want to support you but I just found your channel today.
Carly I have been wanting to ask this for a while but how to you name your business ?
Im sorry but the shape of your hoodies bugs the F out of me. Its a cool idea and a great execution of your project, but for someone that wears hoodies for warmth not style, that fact that your design flares out at the bottom instead of following the line of the body sends chills up my back thinking about the cold wind that would blow up under that. Otherwise i enjoyed the video and the project, though i personally would have liked a bit more detail on the making and sewing of the hood itself.
sleeves are too short for a man
