I have Mr. Debussy, Mr. Grimshaw, yourself, and this site to thank. I fell in love with Mr. Grimshaw's Round Hay Lake painting and purchasing it on quality, non-acid paper, beautifully framed. We live very near a place just like that and I see myself and my husband standing there gazing at a very similar site. We are in our mid-70's now and I like to believe we could be like that together, forever. Thank you for bringing this, one of my most favorites of Mr. Debussy and beautiful artwork together for all of us appreciate.
Im lucky enough to live near enough to Headingley to maybe make a pilgrimage to J.A Grimshaw's old house one day, and in fact studied at the University of Leeds, where I walked past his grave unknowingly a number of times! Wish I'd known at the time, wonderful artist.
God.....this song is so beautiful and just takes you away when you close your eyes and listen to it. makes me think of my father who passed away 3 months ago when I listen to it. I miss him a lot but know he is watching down on me from above. he loved this track
Incredible piece beautifully done, and what magnificent paintings! Grimshaw is a truly gifted artist. His talent and attention to detail is incredible.
I feel this iconic piece lost something in the translation to orchestra. The shimmering of the overtones of the piano strings conveys the intangible shimmer of moonlight - the magic of moonlight. The physical shimmer is too elusive and ephemeral for the physical realities of an orchestra, no matter how perfect.
My mother passed away two years ago. I decided to write a memoir about her. Whenever I write, I put on movie soundtracks of emotional music or just compilations of inspirational music. So I'm writing and listening when I decide that the one song I'm listening to needs to be bumped. When I change the song, I see Claire De Lune and I'm so moved by the synchronicity that i decide to go a step further and look up Claire De Lune to see if the song had any meaning or any background information that was interesting. Both my grandmother and mother loved, loved, loved this song and i remember my grandmother playing this piece on the piano. I Googled Claire De Lune and found out that it's very special and spiritual (just like the female matriarchs in my family). Here's what I found: "Clair de Lune, its title French for “moonlight” is based on the poem of the same name by Symbolist poet Paul Verlaine. In both the famed classical music piece and its lesser-known companion, we are taken through a journey to introspection - the lifetime adventure of understanding the soul in all its phases." I don't know what got into me to type all of this personal family stuff to someone i don't even know, but I feel better --so thank you--haha! My bond with my mother with whom I miss so much feels better--or maybe Claire De Lune just told me so. God bless all who read this.

Ive never listened to classical music or orchestral music before listening to this, and the first time I ever listened to this was a magical experience. It is truly the most beautiful sound I have ever heard in my life and the first work of music to ever make me cry. I love it.
Thank you for this amazing comment. I believe what you felt is similar to what happened to me while listening to this piece for the first time. It was not only the music or the performance. A deeper truth manifested itself through this music. Why was Debussy able to touch this special place in our souls that connects us with heavenly yearnings, i have no idea.
I listen to this when I use my telescope and look at the cosmos, staring at the powerful rings of Saturn or the demanding craters of the moon with this playing makes me feel like I’m floating
Simply majestically magnificent! The paintings by Grimshaw are a perfect foil to Debussy's Clare de Lune exquisitely rendered by the London Symphony Orchestra. This caused me no small amount of mist in the vicinity of my eyes. Thank you Mr Bennett for your post here beautifully done.
This is the song that has always made me think of only the good, and dreamy parts of this life. The love you share with others. Laying on the cool grass on a summer evening just looking at the stars and listening to the crickets chirp. The breeze gently blowing through the trees, bringing in the smell of rain. My grandma's flower garden, and how it seemed so magical with it's big fat furry bumblebees. Grandma's hands that would dig in the garden, and feed me the best food, and pull me close for a long hug. Sitting on the front lawn with neighbors and watching the fireworks on the 4th of July. Watching my children run and play and laugh. The comfort I feel when I'm in my sweetheart's arms... Nothing but good things with this song. Thank you for posting it. ♥️
OMG that makes me cry because I feel so much of those things as well. I miss my grandma - I know she’s watching over me and this sound - this music makes me feel like love goes on forever and never ends
A perfect combination of music and art. My friend had an original Atkinson Grimshaw hanging over the fireplace, eventually it went to auction, I helped lift it from the wall and carry it. What a surreal moment that was. 🎨🖌️
I agree. The piano just can’t capture all the nuances of this mystical piece. I’ve heard it played many ways. This is close to perfect as I have heard I will they would play that special crescendo part that’s near the beginning more than once. The most beautiful piece of music ever
Evokes memories of times gone by. My parents both gone now, but all the magical moments we had growing up with them. Moms gardens, shopping for a Christmas tree, Christmas morning opening presents, Dad and Mom loving us and each other so much. Never thought they'd get old and pass. Good memories, sad but sweet. The most beautiful piece ever written. Enchanting...

This Orchestral version by the London Symphony Orchestra is captivatingly beautiful. I believe it captures what Debussy wonderfully expressed in this hauntingly beautiful recording.
Jorge Bennett. I want to thank you personally for sharing this beautiful recording. I’ve had a love affair with classical music since a nine year old boy in a school field trip saw and heard a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Peter and the Wolf. 63 years later that love remains strong. Debussy’s Clare de Lune is a favorite and I can close my eyes while listening and be moved to a wonderful dreamy realm where my heart is warmed as it is enveloped in a soft panoply of colors and sounds. Again thank you Jorge. I close sending my best thoughts and wishes from central Florida. As Christmas is approaching I wish you a joyful Christmas.

Amazingly beautiful painting of London at the Debussy times or before. Never heard of John Atkinson Grimshaw before, and I thank you for the discovery. I equally praise your good taste. This picture has lead me to hear the Debussy Claire de Lune orchestrated, something I know well but as the piano piece it is. Utter brilliance that's bright & colorful, sweepingly gorgeous & exquisitely engrossing, continuously compelling w unrestrained yet refined beauty, sweetly delicate & soft while still strong & powerful, yearning not left unsatisfied, playful & harmonious, pangs of longing soon passionately fulfilled, unapologetically stimulating & desirously driven, enthusiastically pulling you further & further along its musically majestic journey.
Or more simply put, *_Undeniable Perfection!_*
💗💓💗💓💗
The moonlight is really matched to these paintings. Debussy is fantastic!!! I don't know why but when I listen this music, I remember so many memories of my childhood.
This splendor of words can not arrive
No performance is as interesting and intriguing and captivating as this wonderful orchestra’s performance
If there is a better way (than listening to this masterpiece) to spend 5 minutes and 51 seconds in mortality, I hope, but don't expect, to find it.
Its amazing...i felt like i was at home....but a home that I don't know yet.
The skill of Stanley Black is evident in his arrangement of this magical piece for the great London Symphony Orchestra. The graphics are superb and enhance the beauty of Debussy's gorgeous melody.
My favorite version, it's incredible.
Beautiful, I love the vinyl crackle, adds a touch of vintage authenticity...
Well if I could define Heaven by music it would have to be this rendition. Magical
