I think it uses some sort of gate circuit to make it all work together. Glad to see that you are still making videos Charles :)

I'm not getting any sound from the tape. All connections are intact. The head and rollers are clean. Tape runs and advances as it should, just no sound. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I assume it's in the sound board - bad capacitor perhaps?
I'm thinking there might be an Arduino type sound board that I could interface with the sound head. Any suggestions?

I just picked one up and the eyes do not light. Any idea if that is a cap issue or burnt light bulbs?

thanks for the video. I was wondering if you did a video or if there is info somewhere on your head mounting bracket repair? I just won a 2x-l auction and I'm guessing my bracket will be cracked or worse. I've never worked on 8 track players but my research leads me to believe that is such a common problem. Thanks again for the video.

I picked one up at a Goodwill store. No power supply. What kind of power supply does it use?

I wish I'd kept my 2-XL robot i'd do a video on it and show the mods i did. I just can't remember what happened to it.

+coondogtheman1234 they are cheap on ebay and mine has good sound for what it is I may add a line out stereo plugs right off the head wires for run it in to a stereo receiver but still have the mono amp also I would use switching jacks or a jumper setup like I did on the kiddy phonos

I wouldn't add line out at the head because the audio level is too low and if theres any voltage on that line it will erase your tape. I experimented with that one time I hooked a n audio head to the mic in on my computer and tried to play a tape directly and I erased it because the mic connection has plug in power to power the microphone.so yeah bye bye recording. It was a good song too. I would either just hook to the speaker output because you're probably not going to find a line level signal anywhere except maybe the volume pot. Chances are the preamp and main amp are in the same chip but I could be wrong. I would have to see the amp board to know for sure. Maybe do a very detailed video of all the chips on the board and all connections on the board.
I'm glad TH-cam got rid of the 500 character comment limit god I love this.

I would have to put a amp board in it so to get stereo I have one from a small car deck that would fit ,plenty of room and abandon the on-board amp, find a stereo vol. pot. to replace the slider on the amp board and fit to the original hole in the case etc. lot of work done that kind of thing before. not worth it on this one. the onboard speaker-amp sound real good for what it is the large case must give it good base for a 3 inch speaker
I do remember the powered [phantom] mics from back in my PA system days
