- The Mego 2XL Robot is an interesting piece from the very beginning of interactive electronic toys. The 1970s 2XL incorporated little more than a modified 8-track player to provide hours of entertainment on specially-formatted cassette tapes. In this Mego 2XL teardown, we'll look at how the toy was built, the basic working mechanism, and attempt to diagnose a 2XL not working.

I've got one of these but no power supply, mind posting the type of supply I need? I did see that you said it was a 3.5mm

make sure the center pin is positive or the tape will run backwards.
Hi, i have bought one from UK. Manual says that works on 110v, IS correct? Do you know where i can get The 3 amp adapter? It works on 9 volts?i would like test It.Thanks from Spain.

Can anyone tell me what size the player belt is, or what other 8 track player uses the same belt? Mine is stretched, and I can't seem to find a belt online without a cross reference to another tape player.
I am also looking for a belt for mine.
Mego 2-XL question:
I'm not getting any sound from the tape. All connections are intact. The head and rollers are clean. Tape runs and advances as it should, just no sound. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I assume it's in the sound board - bad capacitor perhaps?
The speaker may be blown out or a solder point has come loose
