    2-XL is such a interesting little toy and its old yet impressive technology fascinates me

    My favorite toy as a child! You really got a sense that 2-xl had its own personality and that laugh was pure joy.

    Thank you so much for making this video the 2XL was and is my favorite childhood toy and I'm 35 so when I first started thinking about it and I found this channel it really made me feel great even though you use the 78 2XL I was actually happy to see that my favorite toy robot predated me. I've watched the entire 2XL playlist and this has been quite a journey for me and I really appreciate it. Keep up the freaking fantastic work I don't know anything about Teddy ruxpin really but I am very grateful for Teddy ruxpin because if it wasn't for that bear I would not have the coolest 2XL playlist in the history of playlists.

    2-XL was definitely ahead of the times, very interesting :)

    Thank you for making this video, very interesting! I can only imagine the pain it must have taken to program those 8 tracks in sync. I have recorded to 8 track before and it's tough keeping up with starting times.

    This is so fascinating, thank you for the video!! I loved learning about that lil guy and his history, his creator seems like an absolute genius!! If I ever happen to run into one at a thrift store or yard sale I’ll pick him up for sure!!

    I love the new intro in the video. Keep it up with the content. Just a quick question Blue what inspired yourself to taking an interest in animatronic toys was it the technology behind it or was it something else? I know Teddy Ruxpin's electronics were if I'm not mistaken developed by ex Atari employees

    • @blueoctopede
      @blueoctopede  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks! And that's an excellent question... I think I was drawn to Teddy's character and the world of Grundo that got me first. I've always been a fan of fantasy stuff and Teddy and company are so likeable and so relatable. Then when my Teddy broke, I wanted to learn to fix him! I've always been kinda handy and I love tinkering with stuff so it just all kinda fit together!

  • @UnknownFlyingPancake
    @UnknownFlyingPancake 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would have had no idea of its existence if it wasn't for your videos. It's absolutely fascinating and I want one now, haha. Also I think you should make a video on Little Leachim, it would probably be just as interesting.

    I still have the Tiger version I got when I was a kid, and he still works. I've had a thing for robots since I was little, so 2-XL was a no brainer. His snarkiness was just icing on the cake of his adorable design, and I've only grown to love him more over the years. There's just something about the way Dr. Freeman accents certain words that adds to 2-XL's charm.
    I do have a question, though. The Tiger version is capable of playing regular music cassettes, and I've actually used mine as a really cute tape player, and I was wondering if the Mego version is able to play regular music 8-tracks, as well.

    • @blueoctopede
      @blueoctopede  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! You can play regular 8-track tapes in the MEGO version.

    The 2-XL is adorable! Also, when I saw the beginning of your new intro, I though it was going to be an advertisement for something, then I was like "Oh, it's Blue's new intro!" Lol. Nice review! Have a good day! :)

    I'm still obsessed with some of the music featured in 2-XL. Especially a couple of the tracks from Storyland:2-XL and the Time Machine. I know all of the music used was from Library records, but two of those songs, I still can't track down. I even contacted KPM a few months ago and they don't lay claim to those tracks.

    To clarify: Do you have an 8-track player? I was wondering in that part where you were able to play more than one track at once. Anyway, great and informative video! Very nicely done!

    I'm getting a teddy display! It is the same type of display you have. He needs repairs and doesn't come with the tape or background, eventually, he should be functional though! He also needs a new mouth as his mouth is missing.

    • @blueoctopede
      @blueoctopede  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no! Poor Teddy!! I think I remember seeing that display on eBay, if that's where you got yours. I'm sure it's possible to rebuild him, but it'll definitely take time and work.

    • @GallaRM
      @GallaRM 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      if it was the display with the dirty base with a teddy that has no mouth then yes that's probably him! I got mine off eBay. The seller wished me luck on repairing him. When I get him working again I will probably make a video of him functioning. Sadly it doesn't have the display tape.

    I got the MEGO 2-XL and when I put a 8Track Tape in the machine It reds to tracks at a time.
    How can I fix this? is it something in the Machine or is it the Tape?

      Frank Iezzi We may be in the same boat tape wise. I still can’t find “Riplees believe it or not”, the PowerRangers- Attack of the one hundred foot teenagers”, the “Are you afraid of the dark- Tale of the Fantom Manor”, or the scholastic Series title “Count on it”. If I could get these few titles, I think I would have the full set. Do you happen to have these titles or know where I can find them?
      There were two more tapes listed on the list I was using to re-buy my collection- “Robostronomy”, RobotTrivia, and, (this one was probably never made)- the Trylex game for the Tiger 2XL. Maybe we could compare lists and I could tell you the names of the sellers I bought from.

    The dialect that 2XL talks in sounds very similar to a late 50s early 1970s Jewish New Yorker...like for second I thought a rabbi I knew did The voice for it sounds so similar just the he's little less snarky...
