Y’all aced this review. I have one and you are exactly right. I have not used it as much later, due from exactly as you said, I didn’t want to take the extra rod. Temp would be worth the money for an upgraded model. Great little sonar, especially for a Jon boat or yak.
I was given one as a gift last year and I like it... I use it on a $5 fly fishing reel I picked up at a yard sale and then attached to a wooden dowel with a hole drilled through the tip at a 45degree that the line to feeds through... I pitch it out like a baseball and reel it in like a lure... works decent for getting a quick lay of the land and has run problem free for me.
i bought the basic one a couple years ago and wasnt impressed. it stopped working and would not connect to my phone or tablet after 6 months. Definitely would like to see a review of the newer version to see if it would be worth it
Have you tried it on a boat? I am thinking of using it for a reservoir and trout fishing in the UK. You pay £45 and can keep up to 8 trout but I only caught the 1 last time out lol. I'm thinking it may be worth the investment
I just got one. Going to take it out float tubing at perris lake this coming weekend. It connected fine on the charger. Just glad it's an Amazon product so returns are no problem if it sucks
You seemed to have gotten a unit that actually works - which has not been my experience (even when disabling mobile data, as recommended). Based on several review sites, it's hit or miss on quality and performance with some units coming apart or not connecting reliably, if at all. My Start works fine in a bucket of water, but unreliable connection at the old fishing hole.
I have one of these, but I only had it out for one day and it did fine. I need to take it out again to get more info. I could not cast it out as far as I would have liked.
The Answer is: Long, heavy rod and a spin reel mounted. Both will improve the casting range. I guess, you'll use it just for getting to know your home waters anyway? Using it once or twice per spot? Should be possible, to carry the extra long rod once per spot. :-)
I could definitely have used something like that this last weekend. I fished a man-made pond and had no idea what the depth of it was. There were a few times where I don't think it was even 3 ft deep but couldn't tell
@@aaanglers awesome...I just got one for my birthday!! I can't wait to try it out ...I do alot of river an back bay fishing ...one more question ..can I just leave out an let it stay in area i am fishing ? Or do I have to keep reeling it in ?
@@bass_daddy1698 yeah I was so disappointed I contacted deeper to see if it was maybe just a bad unit and they said they had to upgrade everything to fix that problem, I wasn't about to spend more money to find out
C'mon Baxter you know I don't speak Spanish, you ate a whole roll of cheese and pooped in the refrigerator? Not even mad, I'm kinda impressed. (Anchorman)😄
Had year ago and it really bad quality. Support could not figure out what's wrong. Just would not display a wireless point to connect to. Had it exchanged 4 times after they kept failing after few uses even out of the box. Finally upgraded to higher model with no issues. Be warned.
@@aaanglers Yes. Also if you have any issues they do have GREAT support which I did appreciate but they are not in the US so you have to ship and wait. When upgraded to Depper Pro it worked perfectly out of the box with no issues and with many outings. Also the Pro is saltwater capable while the basic one is not.
By the way since now I know you guys are reading these. I'd really appreciate you guys doing a sort of in depth, start to finish, on thesr devices. I know you've done videos WITH them before and sprinkled in tips here and there but it's actually really difficult to find in depth guides on how to use this how it works, speeds to reel, settings to use etc.
It would’ve been nice to face it where there’s no glare from the sun so we could see your faces instead of the actual phone. That’s what we were trying to review and we couldn’t see it because of the shine.
Let me know what you guys think! Should we level up and try a higher-end model?
Did yall happen to see any fish show up while you were trying it out? And I really think that this is going to be a near future purchase
I can send you mine to use in your review if you want. I’m not using it right now. Deeper Chirp. Let me know! Even have the kayak mount.
Definitely because version 1 sucked!!
@@quietlife4me how do you like the higher end model? Is it worth spending the extra on it?
@@bass_daddy1698 i think we need to upgrade!
Instead of rigging it to your rod, could you instead put it on a small hand fishing setup and just throw it out? Just an idea.

Can you use it to actually see where the fish are or just to know what the structure and depth under the water is
@@jackm7179 More so for just scouting depth and topography... it has on occasion identified that there are fish but it's hit or miss in that field.
Using a barrel swivel could eliminate the need for a second rod as long as you are aren’t using a very light stick.
I always thought it was a neat concept. Nice to see one in action. Pretty sure this one is going on my list.
Excellent video. All I do is bank fish so this is very helpful.

Thanks for the review on this sonar, I will look more into this look Lagit for a budget angler
I have the deeper pro+ and I use it to learn structure and depth.
Definitely worth it if you’re a bank angler.

Thanks again for another review. I thought about getting one, but wanted to hear about them first.

What phone is it not connecting to? Does it give the temp of water?
We have the same phone, so I’m not sure why it didn’t connect
Next one up attaches to kayak but get the chirp version
I've been wanting to get one of those but have been hesitant. You just made my mind up for me thanks for the review
Yeeees
Thanks for the review, I have been looking into these.
You should see what the signal distance is. Can you cast further than it transmits?
have a deeper + available the 2d is equal to my hummingbird 7 with boat mount , reasonable offer + shipping
I have the Chirp Pro. It works great but it's a cannonball when casting it out and scares the fish away!
Would this work well for Ice Fishing?
Yes, absolutely
Yes, but not the deeper start model.
It'll not. Y? Coz min temperature is 0°C or 32°F
Can the Deeper make under water maps? Can I save these on my phone?
That I am not sure on, but you could use anglr app!
@@aaanglers thx.
My wife got me one for Christmas. I have barely used it.
awesome video, guys~ sweet review and i hope yall had fun! #deepr #sonar
I am little confused did you throw it out the lake?
yes
Does it need data service? Here in canada most of the spots are off phone service, I mean GPS wise to scan a body of water?
For the fish finder to function, you just need bluetooth.
@@aaanglers ah ok, but how it scan the position or passes on a lake I'm scanning without service?
I could definitely have used something like that this last weekend. I fished a man-made pond and had no idea what the depth of it was. There were a few times where I don't think it was even 3 ft deep but couldn't tell
Is it good for sea kayak fishing?
I don't know, I only have fresh water
So could you see any fish?
Not really on this model
You can definitely see fish on the Deeper Start. I have one... you just have to throw it where there are some fish 😉
Hey guys ...will it work if out on river with our any wifi ..just having cell service? Or do you have to have wifi for it to work? Thanks
It works out anywhere. You just link to it

How does something like this work in slower current like a larger delta river? Wind? Anyone? Thank you.
Not sure
Thank you for your honesty. I might find out. Will let you know.@@aaanglers
Good for ice. Fishing also
Question, you have a Ned rig as the weight for a drop shot?! I just learned something new 🤣
🤯
Did that thing is water proof and BLUETOOTH??? Explain me more clearly. Thanks
yes
Do you have to have service?
Nope
I had one of these and I hated it, it had no range and connection issues
I heard that too but I just checked the website and it says all the internals were upgraded to correct those issues

You could drag it behind an RC boat and go where ever you wanted.
That sounds rad
why use a rod. just right on some braid and throw it like a baseball 😆
haha guess paul is thinking like me. lol
💯
I cann't throw things as far as my rod does. Maybe you can... ;-)
Oh idea about the sonar attach it to some rope so u can leave out there and let it drift
Good call!
Can put it on a CatMaxx Cat-o-Matic Mechanical Reel if the pull rate can be tuned down

Well I don’t speak Spanish. And it’s an Anchorman movie quote
