Grade crossings are not kind to the Chargers. I'm sure there's an even bigger gallery of wrecked Brightline Chargers because of all the Florida mans that love to hang out in grade crossings in Florida.
Of course the only time crossings get reputation in the railfan community is when they are the “cause” of the destruction of locomotives. And they aren’t even the actual cause, the cause is the studio people trying to beat the train or go around the gates, etc, etc! 99.9% of the time, the train is not at fault. It’s the people.
The older Amtrak, P 42’s could handle a crash better. the ALC 42 models are not as strong in the crash. the window of the train is at the same level as a semi, if you think about it.
sometimes insurance and lawsuits hold up the railroad from using/repairing the locomotive. It's not guaranteed that it won't be repaired, but they may need to get the all clear from their insurance company before they can move or work on the engine
@@Mike-uw4wn yea i know, it could also be the fact that Amtrak is planning on how to fix it, or if its totaled, how to/where to scrap it, but i think your reasoning is the best reasoning because the Ventura police might need it for the evidence

Can't Amtrak just make quadgates at their busier crossings? Sure a RR Xing installation can cost hundreds of thousands, yet they are still drivers who cant wait 2-5 mins for a train to pass.
I'm pretty sure it's not up to them most of the time. Amtrak runs like 90% of its trains on the lines of freight railroads, and they're at their mercy. So that means that they're probably the ones responsible for maintaining and upgrading railroad crossing infastructure (that or whoever owns the roadways of said crossing). Amtrak doesn't have much of a say in it 90% of the time.
Only the 302, 307 and 312 are suitable enough for repairs, 300 is too much in critical condition to be repaired and unfortunately will be scrapped at the end of the ALC-42 order, just heard the unfortunate and sad news yesterday afternoon.
Very unfortunate and sad news surfaced yesterday on Facebook that ALC-42 #300 has been scrapped. R.I.P February 8, 2022 - March 29, 2024. Wrecked after hitting a water tanker truck or public works vehicle that was stopped on the tracks in the city of Moorpark, California on Wednesday, 06/28/23 while leading a 10-car Amtrak Coast Starlight passenger train #14 traveling southbound from Los Angeles towards Seattle at 11:15 a.m.
Dawg, chill out! The ALC-42s are gonna be taken over soon. At least a few of them are now being serviced on different Amtrak routes, so there’s no reason for you to be worried. And dude, the F125s belong to Metrolink! GET IT RIGHT NEXT TIME!!!
Ok so Amtrak 300 the first alc 42 is going to be wait a minute that’s a lie Amtrak is not going to scrap 300 why can’t they send it back to the Siemens and fix the noise.
@SeanBleaking 302 smashed into a pickup truck that got stuck on the tracks in Snohomish County in Washington State on Saturday, February 12, 2022 near the intersection of Evergreen Drive and State Route 2 in Sultan at around 8:30 p.m. and is slightly damaged, but repairable. The boat was being towed by the truck, according to video footage by KOMO. KOMO also obtained a video of the nasty incident after it happened and footage showed the red pickup truck twisted and almost torn in half as it sat in front of the stopped Amtrak train.
It's actually *SC-44* not ALC-44s and you missed a few charger variants on the list which are *SC-42DM ALC-42E, SCB-40,* and *SCV-42.* Plus, I can respect your opinions on those modernized locomotives.
It's a good thing those things are getting destroyed they are some of the ugliest looking trains ever seen if you can call them trains even the train Crews hate them the Genesis locomotive the - 8 and the f40 and everything else before that looks 100 times better

I saw 307 in person and it was rough. It hit a dump truck at 80-85 mph and caused the truck body to go off the frame.
DAMN.
At least it wasn’t 301 since it’s a heritage unit
That “shut up foamers” got me dying 💀
They got removable noses so they can be repaired on the nose much easier than the SC44

I don't think they are that low, but yeah the Chargers are about 2 or 3 feet shorter than a P42, which itself is already short.
i do wana mention, #300 is sitting in L.A. RN and has sadly not been repared :(
