Dude, you got right down to it!! You didn't talk about your dog, or a kid that threw a rock at your car, or painting your car.....you got right down and said it was the map sensor, and the plastic cover for throttle body area! Thank you for an accurate detailed explanation of how they work, how to clean them, and how it affects the car. I'm subscribing! 👍😎 A++

you can clean them with the proper spray (there is such a thing) but is better to just replace them they are Not expensive just make sure they are Not Knock Offs? from China! but actual Toyota parts. most are held with two screws one on each side pull it out and replace with new one . runs smooth and you can say goodbye to the engine hesitating in most cases.

My father-in-law had a 2002 Lexus GS 300 with 136k on the clock that I was asked to sell for him. His Lexus had a similar issue in that when I stuffed the accelerator to the floor to get ahead of the approaching traffic the Lexus would "hang" around 4,000 rpm (suspended in time almost) and did NOT shift until my foot was lifted - totally unsafe!!! This video changed everything because instead of paying a local mechanic $158 to just diagnose the car I cleaned the mass airflow sensor with a special spray, pulled the airbox to find it crack-free, cleaned the throttle body and butterfly, and installed a new air filter to one that should have been trashed years ago!
It's a completely different car(!) that now launches in acceleration quickly and shifts smoothly through its range easily getting ahead of any approaching car. THANK YOU very much for this excellent, informative video! The Lexus was just sold with spunk and longevity to a new owner who is delighted!

I've been using Gumout injection cleaner in the tank with theh PEA in it, and it's been doing a great job keeping the injectors clean, also I've used CRC's intake valve cleaner a few times cleaning the intake valves on GDI engines, and that makes a big difference if you haven't cleaned the valves.

Damn thanks for this video, for the last 5 year’s I thought something was wrong with my is300. Just just bought a new coil pack and spark wires thinking it would make a difference until I saw this video. I’ve checked the mass flow sensor and it looked dirty, clean it with the mass air sensor cleaner and the car ran like nothing happened. I use a K&N filter and you have oil them every time you clean it. Yep those oil from the K&N filter can mess up your mass air flow sensor.

So I changed my Mass Air Flow sensor and my hesitation problem stop. I have a GS300 98 and nobody couldn't figure out my problem. I came across a thread that someone recommended changing his air flow sensor resolve his issue after trying to clean the mass air flow sensor. My mechanic was surprised this was the issue all along because my check engine light didn't come on. I recommend getting your Mass Air Flow sensor from your dealer. This is my second time changing it over the last 3 years. You should change it yourself its 2 screws and a clip it is very simple.

My other problem is my car idles super rough after it gets up to operating temp either in reverse, park or idling at a red light. It doesn’t turn over and there’s no leaks or check engine light. Took it into the mechanics and now it sounds like my alternator or timing belts is whining or rubbing after leaving the shop. @@Kholmes97 I recommend that you inspect the intake from the air filter ducts and hoses until the Throttle to check for any defects. I thoroughly looked without dismantling and found out that my rubber hose was cracked. If u still don't see anything then do what he did in the video and dismantle the intake to have a better look.
I go to the desert frequently so I clean my air filter every 2 weeks and in order to remove my air filter there is a flexible rubber hose that flexes every i remove the air filter. That hose wore out due me cleaning too often. It all made sense after I found out the problem. 😂

Get a Actron CP9690 code tester. It checks live, record, graphing, emissions readiness test, transmission codes, ABS, SRS, oxygen sensor test, and MORE! It has code-connect to diagnose codes. Get 4 aaa batteries for under the rear cover. It comes in a black pouch. It checks from 1983-2013 and is updatable. Get a USB cable to update it. EBAY has it. It costs from $160.00- $170.00.

had a similar problem with my carburetored civic 95 d15b engine. runs normal but the moment i floor it it lurches and jerks for 5-7 seconds and then it goes vrooom all the way. took it to a carburetor guy said there was a fuel leak and he cleaned it up and changed some gaskets. took 5 dollars. after that it worked like a charm and no hesitation after pressing the throttle. no more jerking. but now its doing it again a little bit and its only been 2 weeks. i don't think anyone checked the air flow sensor. so im gonna do that. thanks for the vid!

I had a Bronco that had a broken wire to a coil. Burned up front cat, which crumbled and plugged back cat. Mechanic said it was because RAW AIR was getting to the cat and super-heating it.

Ok some im having a problem similar to this and my short term fuel trims were lean on both banks. I cleaned the mass air flow and i also noticed the air box where the air filter is ,was not fully latched ,leaving a gap. After i properly latched the air box the fuel trims went back to close to normal. Could that gap in the air box have caused drive ability issues?

I just worked on 2003 Lexus IS 300 with P0171B (bank 1 System too Lean) and P0174B (bank 2 System too Lean). I replaced the MAF sensor I got from 2005 Toyota Camry from Pick n Pull wrecking yard and the problem with hesitation he described went away.

Between your comments and this very informative video. I was able to find the cleanest maf sensor at my local pick and pull. Replaced it right away and all hesitation and jerking was gone it shifted better and accelerated well. Thanks for the tip about the camry mafs. I also found that the prius and echoes/yaris have the same mafs as well. 👍👍
