P.S. I bought it with my money.
Can it drive dt880 600ohm?
@@gregswatches Yes, my fiio q3 could power mine. 😅
Sounds like Zeos got his own medicine while rewatching the review for links :D
I just bought one too. It's weird that I was looking at it last night on Amazon. I was looking for a review on it, and magically Z reviewed it just in time. 😊
@@gregswatches it'll probably get loud enough. But I highly doubt it'll actually sound good. There's a reason people like to drive these with speaker amps.
I bought this a month ago. You ain't fooling me Zeos ! I'm not buying it again !!!
I ordered it too along with zen dac and im having them next week. Will they make my 1000xm2 sound better ? (I m waiting around june my 6xx's too)

Dude, Same. I watch these reviews in my Sun Room with the SE12 in the closet. And I KNOWW your pain.
@@ZReviews Is it because the electronics are running right in front of you? Another youtuber reviewing a dac ran into this recently and it interfered with his mic when it was on.
But yeah it hurts too much to watch. Maybe audacity can be used to take the buzz out if you can't find a solution.
Zeos trying to BECOME the anime girl confirmed
@@jmporkbob im in the basement with not one but two huge heater units that keep me alive. So the odds of them both not running when it's 18 degrees Fahrenheit outside is low
Hey Zoes nice review, how does it sound with HD660s? Thanks
The Truebass on the Zen DAC is a High/Low-Gain switch for low Frequency. What is more than a EQ because it gives the Bass more power. So on the X2HR the Bass is dryer and peak pressure is higher but the tonality only changes slightly on X2HR.
still using the Zen DAC for about 1 year and still satisfied for the performance.. i need to get this amp
Did you end up getting the amp? What headphones are you using with it?
Let me just add that i had power on issues with my zen can (loose power button) and ifi warranty support was great, gave me a replacement set via local dealer. Also, the balanced output was really tight on my first unit and my friend's unit. My new unit is fine. Overall an awesome headphone amp if u get a working unit :)
I own the ifi xcan and can confirm the bass boost is straight up awesome. Wouldnt have it on for everything but most stuff it really adds to the track.
I now think I need this to pair with my Zen Dac. Sometimes I hate you Zeos and my wife hates me sometimes, but I absolutely blame you every time.
It's a power house of an amp. I think it makes sense to pair it with a DAC with volume control. I've been using it for PC and my TV (for use with gaming consoles) and I struggle to get volume to a place where I can retain my hearing. Headphones I use balanced, I end up switching to single-ended because of the output volume. I only wish there was a power match for IEMs. Instead of a 0 gain a - 6 dB would have been spiffy.
(edit) Bought mine from Crutchfield who had the cheapest price and have been awesome with their shipping and processing. I've bought two items from them both of which shipped within 3 hours.
What dac u get
@@ugursenturk5860 Presently I partner it with a Zen DAC but the original DAC pairing was the SMSL Sankrit MkII. Both pair well with it. Not a picky amp.
@@dasninjastix thanks!
Do you run it balanced on the ifi gear?
İ was tossing up with this or the schitt magnuis.
The price point on this seems alright.
Want to run sundaras balanced.
I actually bought the Zen can a while ago and its been my go-to amp, its just plain fun, its not the cleanest or the best in the world but its fun to just click a button when "that song" comes on and you push the headphones just a bit more
Apparently the Signature Can version they just released this month sounds cleaner with all the upgraded capacitors in it - but it comes packaged with the iPowerX and that forces the price up to $249
@@Lockk9to be honest i like it "dirty" :) for clean i bought a topping a50S, this is more of a "have fun" amp.
I also tried stacking the effect since i have a zen DAC as well, but i don't think it does (i think it only affects the forward outputs)
@@ToBeSimplyMe I can at least verify for the ZenDAC that if you use the 4,4mm output in the back AND set the switch to "variable", TrueBass does effect that output. On "fixed" it doesn't. On RCA I'm not 100% sure any more if it's really the same.
Great to know @@miagi1337. I use the RCAs for now, don't have a 4.4 to 4.4 , but ill order one when they are back in stock
@@ToBeSimplyMe I actually picked up a 4,4 mm to RCA cable from china on ebay to feed my Edifier active speaks. By now I think it is pointless, but I needed a slightly longer cable to run to the speakers anyway and the thin braided one that splits at the very end looked nice, clean and unobtrusively, so I keep using it till I have a better use for that 4,4 output.
There are also a few 4,4mm to 4,4mm cables on ebay directly from china, I had good experience with that, shipping to germany. Although shipping will take 1-3 weeks longer than amazon. But if you're not in a hurry it can be an alternative.
A little bit late on the ball here but I guess If:s Itube is the magic box you are looking for. It is a tube / solid state buffert with all the Ifi buttons
Watching Zeos on my ZEN DAC and ZEN CAN while he praise ZEN CAN ... you can hear me purring like a cat
would it be better to run an HD660s with a Zen DAC V2 alone than with a Zen Can alone?
I’m always Clinching onto my wallet while I watch every z reviews
I don't have to, you can't buy any hifi gear in germany :^)
(everything is sold out everywhere all the time)
Better to throw it away...
I can keep it
Just stick to budget gear and be done with it. I have expensive gear. It’s great and I love it but I could also be happy with budget gear if that’s all I have.
Very nice. Bought this 2 months ago. Sounds very good with ksc75, fiio ex1, VE Bonus IE, HD280 II, kph30i. A pile of good headphones thanks to you
I can't be the only one that stacked a Zen Can with a Zen Dac
Me too :)
So do I ..awesome combo, I even run it balanced 🥰
@@bogdanflorea6116 Did the same thing
couple days ago i was thinking of getting the zen can to add to my zen dac, and now this review comes out...
I decided to go with the zen can for my Sundaras and it's a match made in heaven with the x-bass :) But i'm running it directly from my mac with the dongle. Would it be an upgrade to buy the zen dac, to get an external dac? Will a dac improve the sound even more? Reviews of the apple dongle says it's as good as any external dacs..
Just bought one, together with a pair of SUNDARA's.
All because of your brilliant reviews :)!
So how it is ? ;)
@@trixniisama it's amazing! I'm very happy 👍
My understanding of the 3-D button is it's basically a cross feed circuit that, paraphrasing IFI, "Want to know what your headphones sound like as speakers? Press the 3-D button." At least that's what the literature says in the IFI Zen Can Signature from Drop. True to IFI not sure if this is true for both units but I kind of assume that it is.
Own the signature Zen stack and love it, was able to pick it up on eBay for $370 for both. The button is magic, it really brings out the sound on my HD6xx and Hifiman Sundaras.
I also am enjoying the Sundara and the Zen Signature amp (balanced out and with both of the analog circuits engaged). I suggest pad-swapping the Sundara with perforated hybrid pads. Brainwavz (angled or XL) are the best lower-cost option. I plan on trying Dekoni's Elite and ZMF Auteur (suede/lamb, perforated). Even with the Brainwavz' less-dense foam, the sound is significantly better than with the stock pads, the ear openings of which hinder the soundstage and comfort.
@@mattrismatt I am also running the unit completely balanced. I actually am using the Dekoni Elite Sheepskin, they sound great and almost identical to stock. They are also a nice solid build compared to OEM pads.
Crisp audio and video in a first person view + covering premium audio equipment + hot anime wallpaper + most to the point and honest reviews = best TH-cam channel to ever exist.
I've been watching Z since 2017 and no video has ever been 'to the point' lol
@@protractman the odac review is pretty concise, to be fair

Same here! Cool things
For future reference Hart Audio now has 4.4 to xlr cables with both male and female xlr options
WHAT`
@@ZReviews its true. I have a Zen Can and I spent loads of time trying to find 4.4 cables only for Hart Audio to come out with them the day after I spent 3x the price getting cables and adapters.
You know Z likes a product when he brings up hardcore drugs
I'm glad I got the Hart Audio 4.4mm balanced cable. Using the balanced cable instead of the stock 0.25in. cable on the 2021 LCD-X with the ifi zen can provides higher volume on lowest gain setting.
ifi Zen Can - 4.4mm Balanced cable - HD560s - Micromega MyDac - Wonderful! The best you can buy? No. But Stella to me.
Not wrong Zeos, got one on my desk right now and it's magical that button!
The Can's ground loop issues come into play when you are running it balanced only. It seems to ground itself via it's RCA so no RCA no ground. Or at least that what I thought until mine magically fixed it's for reason. No clue. Anyway it's a fantastic amp and it's replaced by JDS Atom. I don't care that the Atom very likely measures better I like how the can sounds more. And that's before you hit the magic button!
Listening to this on my HD600 on said Zen Can. +6db and x-bass = bliss.
would it be better to run an HD660s with a Zen DAC V2 alone than with a Zen Can alone?
Zeos, my man,... I spend some months saving for the zen dac for my 6xx, now I'm sweating for this one, I know it is not a lot of money but it is for a student. As soon as I can, I'll get them.
i have the exact combo and I'm very happy with it. Moreover, if you want to run it in balanced you can, as a fun project, build your own cables :D I did it, and it was really fun.
... "the big Aune S8 800 dollar DAC"
Damn, that IS a big DAC.
The Zen Can is even better when connected balanced. Not just from a power standpoint. It improves the whole spectrum.
Balanced in or out?
@@nonenothing4412 Both! But the most important is balanced in. So balanced from the dac to the amp.
@@songboek hey, paired with Zen DAC or something else?
@@tazeru I've paired it with the Zen dac using the 4.4 to 4.4 cable from Ifi and it sounds great!
@@songboek thanks :) I've been looking for a DAC to pair with my CAN and of course Zen seems to be a very natural choice, I even have 4.4 to 4.4 cable already but I kinda feel like I would end up with so many headphone outputs that I don't need since Zen DAC is also an amp... :D And some of its price would correspond to the amp section and I really really just need a straight up DAC. Like Drop's Signature version but not for that price and importing it to Europe, nuh uh. I kinda hope that some future DAC models from other companies will bring me answer and adapt 4.4 output as well, that's all I need.
i have a schiit magni piety (nitchz) running off a J2 DAC... i plugged my headphones into this amp running off crap and WOW!!! the zen can is amazing. its sooo much better than $100 amps
Hi Zeos, I know it's maybe a bit late now, this is an old video, but have you tried to use the Can as a preamp through the back output?
Is the output sound affected and colored too by the magic button and would possibly enhance the sound of a nice pair of budget towers?
Thanks 😁
If I feed the Zen Can with the Zen Dac and put the TrueBass on on the DAC and add the XBass and 3D Sound on the Zen CAN, would I die from too much butter bass?
Sadly, another person already tried this and the effect only happens out of the front outputs, not the outputs on the back.
@@FiniteCS It works when you are using the 4.4 penticon cable, balance connected stack
You could.. turn the heat like 2 degrees higher than normal then shut the hvac off for reviews... there's usually a switch right next to it in the basement.
This is the video I have been waiting on for quite a while...
Have the Hip Dac and also just want the IFI Magic Button monster. I don't care much for the amp/dac in this thing, all it's doing is making things a touch warmer and creamier on the high end, thing is that means a loss of detail in the high end. And I dont necessarily have any headphones so hard to drive that it even justifies having an amp right now (at least yet). I just want the X Bass. pls
Me after watching this review: Welp now I'll probably get that amp for my iFi Zen Dac
Me: *looks at my hollow wallet*
Also me: Oh duck, maybe not, god damn it Zeo lol
Bought the Zen Can this month, great device.
are you using a stack or Zen Can alone?
This is my all time favorite review because now I know Z listens to Looking Glass
Mine arrived today. Love it. Glad I had it ordered before the review came out....
Watching this again, but I agree! A multi-input box with their functions would be awesome... Even if it's just to live in the Zen product world... ifi please!!!

I have that exact 4.4 to XLR cable, I use it to connect my zendac and geshelli archel pro. Works well
i tried a million more expensive and less expensive dac and amps and in the end went with zen can zen dac stack and nothing is as enjoyable for audio. but thats personal preference. im sure some people will disagree.... i think.
I vote for an ifi effects box... I really like that idea... I love my ifi dac... i love my amp... i wont change them... but id buy an effects box...
Hold up. I’m watching this while listening to my HD6xx on the Zen dac. With the bass boost your heater has a nice calming rumble. It’s nice how that bass/crack button really digs deep. I swear that button fixes a lot of headphones. The lcd-x is the perfect headphone with the bass boost turned on.
I need to dig out my old SR125 and see if ZEN can fix their low bass.
Use it with my 1990s , with true bass it’s one inch before getting too much for me but dude the low end power it gives … it’s not just dialed up bass , it really gives the frequencies more power and it never changes the mids and highs
Watching this with my DT990 pros on the iFi Zen Can, and agree, I actually can't use anything else now. Though I'm using the SYBA gaming dac for now, could use a better dac...
13:20 that’s the loudest you’ve been about something outside of schiit having the power switch on the back
Ifi should seriously consider your "magic button" pitch
this ifi zen can or the updated and fixed topping L30?
Brought one to combo with my gsx1000. Gonna be interesting to see how the base boost and 3d translates to games
great review brings me back to when i was a kid hanging out on the green trasformer boxs between the houses the hum of my child hood lol
I cannot wait for your review of the zen dac v2. I own a Blue Zen, a Zen Dac, a Zen Can, and a Zen Phono. Love them all.
@C. I would buy the zen DAC v2 as it is also a headphone amp, and then later you could get the Zen Can, the combination of DAC and CAN is incredible even if you are listening to MP3s, the decoding of the digital to Analog is way superior than your phone or laptop DAC
@C. I failed to say if you just buy the CAN you are waisting more than half of the functionality of your IFi CAN. I think you can be very happy with the Zen DAC as it gives bass boost plus gain and fantastic decoding
If you just want just the “buttons”. They have the itube2.
thoughts on this vs the THX AAA 789?
AS usual funny and helping review Zeos. You can switch 3 Inputs to one pair of balanced monitors yeah? Have 2 workstations with DACs and would like to switch them onto 1 pair of speakers ... Cheers.
Thanks for this Z. Ordered the zen stack last night. Now the waiting game begins 😂
Need a better DAC but I bought the Zen Can and am running the BTR3k into it via 3.5mm. Opened my HD58x the fuck up, so much less claustrophobic.
Zeos if you want a box that does just xbass out you can get the tube pre that ifi sells
If stacking with ifi Zen Dac? Do i keep the True Bass ON with the magic buttons from the Zen Can?
I really want to try the ifi neo but am too afraid of spending 700 and getting a bad unit. Cambridge is coming out with a new dacmagic for 500. Hoping its good without the cheap volume knob.
They definitely need a “magic box”.
I can’t listen to electronic or bass heavy genres without the analogue goodness of iFi bass enhancement.
My LCD2CB sound so good with house music and the Cascades sound ridiculous when it comes to slam.
I own my Zen CAN for just over a month and I only have HD58X but I sure love them with XBass and 3D turned on :D P.S. Zeos there is a YELLOW version of this HD600 IEM type cable available on AliExpress. Just sayin'.
do you run the Zen Can with a DAC or just the amp alone?
@@win_dum currently I have Zen CAN (standard) and Zen DAC Signature edition, which is only a DAC unlike standard one. And Zen CAN needs some sort of a DAC, it needs to get audio signal from somewhere. With my setup both Zens are interconnected with a balanced 4.4mm cable and RCA from DAC goes to my desktop speakers, so I can also adjust volume with its knob.
@@tazeru i see. thanks for the info!
TrueBass really is Crack, cant hear my hd58x without it
I wonder if there's any difference between the truebass on the zen dac and the X bass on the zen can.
Truebass is great fun though, I don't use it all the time as I've grown to enjoy the natural sound signature of the 58X and K712, but having that extra low end oomph available when you need it is much appreciated. I kinda wish it had some sort of dial though, sometimes I'd like a bit more low end, but hitting the button gives you a metric fucktonne. It'd be nice to have a middle ground.
xbass is a 2db gain at certain frequencies basically
+4dB at 30Hz, around 6dB at 20Hz. Basically what xbass is, and it works well for sundara imo.
There are many bass boost on many things. And they all suck by comparison.
@@ZReviews i’m a shill for their stuff anyway pro stack haha
It does 1.6 watts SE Zeos. Balanced 4.4 will do 1.9 watts at 64 ohm. I fucking love mine. Happy I bought mine 2 months ago before you reviewed it lol
Pretty powerful device!! it pairs well with the ZenDAC, amazing review from you :)
would it be better to run an HD660s with a Zen DAC V2 alone than with a Zen Can alone?
"if you've never done hard drugs" haha didn't see that one coming.funny
I love your reviews man but I have had nothing but trouble with ifi. I have both the dac and the Can btw (regret).
@DifferentEra Well as for the Zen Can it took awhile to get one I could use, the very first one was so bad I could turn the volume almost 1/4 of the way up before the left channel would even kick in. I am happy with it "NOW" but it was a headache at first, as for the Zen Dac I have had too many problems with it to list them all, noise from volume knob, slight imbalance at low levels and at fixed output, not wanting to work at all when I first got it, etc. in fact its been such a problem for me that it has pretty much turned me off ifi products in the future and I'm looking to replace it as soon as I can.
Zeos. I own the Topping E/L 30 stack, iFi Zen stack, and the iFi nano iDSD/ iFi micro ICan signature. All 3 of these budget setups pose the question as to whether it's worth spending silly molar on high-end when it's as good as this for budget money. The ICan sig is so f'ing good with 4W/channel and separate magic switches for xbass and 3d ( 2 levels for each ) and class A tubestate amplification that I can't bring myself to spend much more ( not including my turntable setup which is ridiculous ). With these components and the Arcam rHead with linear power supply, almost all possible scenarios are covered. I'm thinking of joining Patreon. Which tier is the most balanced for a keen audiophile?
Hello Zeos, love your channel, attitude, your videos, and information always super appreciated.
I have a question that really your input will be fantastic, but I also understand you may be very busy to reply.
I currently have hd560s with fiio e10k, using it for competitive fps gaming (quake, valorant, apex and other fps), it's my world.
Would you think by changing the fiio e10k to something like Zen Dac will increase the positional audio? or this only will depend on the headsets. Or what would be the next step/ upgraded amp/dac in your opinion (I am super happy with the hd560) that will really make a difference in positional audio (hearing positionally everything steps, fire, ...). Or with my current setup is already more than ok for gaming purposes.
Thanks in advance if you are able to respond.
All the best man!
Hi Zeos Is it worth spending the extra cash for the signature dac v2 vs the regular zen dac v2.
I’m using the Meze 109 pros and currently use JDS atom stack (I find it to harsh for the Meze hence the upgrade)
I had a problem with this and the Hifiman Sundara. With the “match power” button pressed it distorted (pops & scratches). Without the button pressed, it didn’t power enough for adequate volume. Both work fine matching with other things, so it’s clear a compatibility issue with these two components. I didn’t try suppling power from wall plug.
He is reviewing the Zen-Can in this video , the Zen-Dac you own is really only powerful enough for the Sundara if you buy a Balanced cable for them.
@@Lockk9 Okay, thanks! I didn’t realize it was a different unit.
power match not only has gain function but messes with output impedence. so matching with right headphone is a problem... you can gain output power boost with external ps like ipower.
Haven't read thru the comments, so this may have been pre-mentioned .... "3D" is just crossfeed ... Tyll's Headroom did it decades ago .... as have many, many headamps with bass boost. You can't re-invent the wheel. iFi just put fancy hub caps on!
damnit i just bolt the Liquid Spark wish id seen this :(
Im very happy that I bought it already before your review

I have the ifi DAC and Can and can't wait to hear the GL2000 on them, balanced. People who complained about the lack of bass in the GL2K obviously didn't have the ifi Zen Can.
I also have both of those Youkamoo cables. I use the 4.4 to dual XLR out of the pre-out 4.4 to my 305P's. XBass and 3D sound for your speakers!!!
would it be better to run an HD660s with a Zen DAC V2 alone than with a Zen Can alone?
@@win_dum since I've never heard the hd660s, I can't say much. Compared to the DAC alone, the Zen Can has more power, more bass, and cross feed (3D button) which will make it seem like your headphones have more soundstage
@@win_dum since a year after writing the first comment, I've upgraded to the Zen DAC signature v2 and I got a Focal Elex. The xbass is insane but the 3D effect doesn't do much since there's already decent soundstage on the Elex
@@MGA_83 i see. thanks for the info!
@@win_dum I forgot to mention, you won't be able to use the amp without some form of digital to analog converter. So for starters, getting the DAC first would be your best bet, or save up to get both. You can't use the amp alone
How’s the magic button compare with the ifi xcans Xboss and 3D button
Does that extra low noise ifi plug you can buy with it make much of a difference or am I good without it?
Since IFI started selling their ZEN Signature Set themselves I wonder why cannot they release a separate DAC with bt, that goes along the ZEN CAN as now you need a ZEN DAC + ZEN Blue + ZEN CAN to have a matching set and it is annoying.
The only thing that kinda troubles me is that if they have released a ZEN DAC only(xD) (without bt) there is no way to plug both ZEN Blue and potential ZEN DAC only to the ZEN CAN at once. I wonder why didn't they add two pentaconn inputs...
And make the Bluetooth mode both receiver and transmitter as you like and I am sold so much :D
@@tazeru i am afraid that in this case the price would go as high as the Signature set is already xD
But I like the way you think ;)
@@piotrhermaniuk5998 Fiio BTA30 is both receiver and transmitter and is pretty inexpensive, I bet ifi could make it happen too :) Just with a balanced connection and stuff to match CAN and boom, full success.
@@tazeru yeah, but ZEN CAN is slightly higher range then ZEN DAC so I'd expect matching DAC to be better then the one built in the ZEN DAC, adding additional functionality would at least double the price

I feel like this guy is a car sales man
Zeos! Do a vid or two where you just magic button all your headphones and IEMs! We’d love your feedback on the different speakers, especially ones that probably need that magic button ie cans/iems with low bass/narrow sound.
The zen can signature cost more because it comes with the more expensive power brick.
You can find it for 185 Euros new with the ifi 5v power brick here in Europe, a little bit more than the 162 euros for the version without the 5v power brick
I mean human relationships could do with one of those IFI-Zeos button boxes!
There's another Amazon listing for it that has Prime shipping and more reviews. Had mine for about a month. Been great so far.
zeos you can drive properly dt 880 600ohm with ifi zen can?
In a previous video (not sure which) he said to dive those properly you need at least 5W per channel at 60Ω and this doesn't come close.
@@jusmirtic you don't. Check the specs of the Fiio Q3 SE output; that was enough to power my set.
You CAN(Kinda) drive it with the Zen can, but the low end get a bit distorted with higher volume
After a quick look on Google, it seems some people think it needs around 100mw or so at 600 ohm to power them properly. If that is true the Zen CAN should have enough power even single ended. If you can mod them to run balanced somehow, the Zen CAN produces like 400mw at 600 ohm when balanced, which should be plenty.
With all the cable adapters shouldn’t Astalfo be the wallpaper boy?
Thanks Z, I was just looking for something to plug the Zen's DAC into and there was this... B.t.w. If somebody is still wondering what 18db gain is for - think Fostex-s... ))) These are still like "Is this all you've got b@$ch???!!!" Seriously though - at 12db MK3s are breathing alright. CAN at 12db with the knob at noon pushes about the same as DAC alone on power-match with the knob at 15:00 and distortions starting to creep in quite badly.
Love how he threw in a "giggity" when talking about female to female lol
My Wife calls Zeos / Steve Mr Shakey Head lol
Just ordered the Zen Dac & Zen Can but unfortunately my Hip Dac has failed and I'm waiting for an RMA to get a Replacement but I love ifi gear
I'm running a Zen Dac and Zen Can stack balanced through the 4.4mm (with the Dac set to fixed mode) and most of the time I'm at 9 o'clock for the volume with my HD 660s
Hey, how do you like 660s with CAN's XBass and 3D on? :) I own HD58X but if I ever (eventually) feel like I need an upgrade I will likely get 660s. Are these modes still fun and great on them, nothing sounding false?
@@tazeru Oh yes, the XBass especially gives the 660s the punch they need in the low end.
@@adidubey7 thanks, good to know :) Zen CAN seems to be the ultimate HD6 series fixer :D
Hey, I am having zen DAC driving HD660s balanced with match button on. I am happy with the sound. Volume rarely needs to go above 11 o’clock. My question is that adding the zen CAN, how much would it improve sound quality of the HD660s? I listen to classical music and jazz mostly. Thank you.
Well, you had me at "Brandy."
Try it with a schitt vali and a loki. Analog effery stack
i have hifiman Sundara . i want to buy zen dac v2. should i also buy zen can? or just the dac v2 is enough for my sundara with 4.4 mm balanced output?
