Dangerous bus driver at roundabout - LX12DJJ

- Approaching the roundabout in the primary position, I move over slightly to the left as the lanes are wide enough for traffic continuing on via the roundabout to pass me. Normally I would violate the traffic rules and go across the red and hatched area to make it to the left hand lane of the roundabout faster, but sometimes there is traffic there which has priority.
This occurred today, requiring me to stay in the right hand lane. This is normally awkward enough, as now I'm a slower bicycle sitting ahead of faster traffic with cars also undertaking me, while trying to merge into the left lane. However, before I even really get to this area, a 314 bus driver decides to overtake me and squeeze me out of the lane in a less standard version of a left hook. No way for me to move further left as at that point I still have a car coming down the lane. Luckily the driver notices me banging on the side of the bus and slows down, allowing me to get out of the way.
Bus driver apologised, but doesn't even seem to realise what he did until I told him. Cyclists stay back? In this case, bus stay back! Especially since you're going to turn further left into the bus terminal anyway.
Also, damn you hay fever for making me sneeze all the time.

He had no choice, that dangerous driving would have cost him his job if it had been reported.
After pissing of the bus driver. I wonder how many others you manage to annoy by failing to use the cycle lane clearly marked to your left after the incident. 🙄
As you say, after the incident. That cycle lane also further on requires you to jump off a curb halfway onto a roundabout to join the road again; not really an option. I'm all for cycling lanes, but the infrastructure has to be done properly for it to be useful.
At least the driver was polite
There are some nasty blind-spots on Busses, especially when about a metre from vehicle, Because they are not in your mirrors.

People on bikes are the most dangerous on the road.
If you was an alien and came to earth, you would be shocked that cyclists are allowed on major roadways. It’s combining 2 incompatible elements that due to their speed, can never work together. You have situations like this, where a cyclists thinks he has a zone that demands equal rights, but this mind set prevents him from accepting that at times, he needs to slow down.

should be banned off the roads too fookin slow and get in the way stick to cycle lanes or leave the bike at home and catch a bus
It must be remembered buses have blind spots on there left and right sides where it hard to see people on bicycle, may you should take care around large vehicles, doesn't hurt to giveway larger vehicles , anyway
saves getting hurt.

I am A bus Driver I hate Cyclists Because Many do not obey the Highway code And swerve right out in front of you blocking the road when they should stay on the outside of Islands. That do Not have Lanes marked to follow. However This Island Cleanly Marked Out. And You are 100% percent correct This driver Is dangerous he could have gave you a lot more room.

Bus driver clearly made a mistake that could have been dangerous. But there is a cycle lane, use it. Bumping up a kerb worse than losing your life? If a car was on cycle lane you would moan so don't be on the road when there is cycle path built with hard labour and cost for your safety.
At least the bus driver didn't back chat, what a nice driver :)
Im really starting to hate roundabouts more now. As much as I like the concept to being allowed to go, I feel more people just dont pay proper attention at roundabouts, and encourages the will to speed.
They should put a cyclist behind a steering wheel of the bus for one day

Cyclists are always the cause of trouble and they don't care about going through red lights and then cutting drivers up and causing delays by taking up the entire road. Stop whinging and buy a car!

Wearing a helmet camera, safe and entirely hands-off. The bus driver was overtaking me on a roundabout (this is already a big no-no and will be explained to you again if you take any driving lessons); surely I'm not in control of his behaviour.

im always amazed that people see something overtaking a bike and manage to make it sound like the bike was flying up the inside.
How anyone can be braindead enough to think that the cyclist did something wrong here is beyond me. Take a moment to look at the markings on the ground. The red area with the solid white lines mean DO NOT CROSS. It is illegal to cross them. If the cyclist wanted to take the 2nd exit (as shown in the video) then he must stay to the RIGHT side of the red marked area, this is to ensure there is no conflict with traffic turning left, it's essentially a protected zone.
So, now that you know this, where on earth do you expect the cyclist to go when a bus overtakes then immediately squeezes him out of the lane? Just take one moment and engage your brain, there is nothing but poor, careless driving from the bus driver here. The fact he also had no idea what he'd done is alarming, the fact that you lot despite having clear and re-playable evidence still blame the cyclist, while still being allowed to legally use a car, is even more alarming.
After the 'incident'...why are you not using that lovely cycle path to the left to help keep you safe???

Makes me laugh cyclists complaining about motorists, when cyclists think Red means go, pavements are cycle paths and they have no need to observe the rules of the road.
pete oaten but are bus drivers etc angels..... I've had drivers who drove straight into the middle of traffic so give the guy a break. Bus driver didn't do a hell of a lot wrong but at least he actually apologised...
essexbusman..ive tried everything in my power to get on with cyclits and motor-cyclits but to no avail im afraid!!!....they all ride around with chips and grudge,s on their shoulders...and take from the pot without putting anything back in.....they also cause an awful lot of crashes and near misses!!!.....youv,e got to pass a stringent car test at 18years old to be deemed roadworthy...so why is it you can go out on a bastard push-bike at any age you like and cause mayhem and carnage?.....like i say their nothing but hindrance,s and nuisance,s!!!

That bus driver could have just hung back for a few seconds to allow the cyclist to progress.

Bus indeed did nothing wrong. Bus driver however... There are plenty of things wrong with pushing someone out of their lane into other traffic.

Just let everyone have a second chance and not upload cyclist complaint videos on TH-cam as it violates the DPA (Data Protection Act) and it is an invasion of their privacy.
One question is did you signal as to which direction on the roundabout you was going? Kind of changes the whole situation.

going straight on at the roundabout, which would mean would only need to signal to exit said roundabout, which would still require the bus driver to give plenty of room as per stagecoach training and highway laws

I can understand why motorists complain about cyclists but believe it or not some of us do try our best to make sure we follow the highway code and help people in all types of transport.
SO many comments "use the cycle lane" when in reality you don't have to! The cycle lane is there for cyclists, yes, but you don't have to use it if you don't want to... And yes, it may be hard to be a bus driver but it is also hard to be a cyclist.
