I was about to pack up the SM7dB when I had the last attempt to plug directly into 3.5mm of the FX30 itself and to my surprise. It sounds perfectly fine.... I'm extremely confused because I am getting NOTHING when plugged into the 3.5mm jacks of both my DJI Mic 2, be it recorded locally or through the receiver, and by nothing I mean that I have to amplify disgustingly high to hear and for the noise floor to be louder than my own voice. I am now wondering if I have defective DJI Mic 2s, I bought literally on launch, are there manufacturing independencies? I doubt it... But basically, your DJI Mic 2 supplies phantom power to your Shure right? My camera does, but my Mic 2s do not seem to... Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks for the video, you inspired this purchase for me!
I retested this with a few other mics and now it doesn’t work for me either. Idk if they disabled something via a firmware update on the DJI Mic 2. Kinda driving me crazy cause it wasn’t the case before.

Great review 👏👏 I wonder, Did you apply any post Audio processing for the XLR test? Also, Did you compare the Audio quality of Dji Mic 2 in your studio environment with and without the XLR? I am curious about the differences. Thanks :))
from what ive heard so far on a few different videos, the dji mic 2 sounds a bit muffled in the field. maybe thats the noise cancelling. Also, there was a lot of popping and clipping but the mic may have just been too close to your mouth. When plugged into the shure SM7B, did you have to do anything to the audio in post? Or do you just bring in the audio file and sync it to your video clip?
I just put the DJI Mic 2 in 32bit mode, set the transmitter gain to max and record internally. In post I post the gain a little bit but that’s it. I wasn’t able to hear the clipping or popping on my end. Might be a result of my hand holding the mic. Sound is very subjective and I’ve got people saying DJI MIC 2 sounds better than DJI MIC 1 and vice versa
Hey Fred! Thanks for great review of the DJI mic 2 + SM7dB. Currently testing the same setup and recorded sound is very low.. On your recording it has great volume to it.. tips or tricks?
Could be a couple factors. What camera are you using? Make sure the level are set correctly. Are you using internal DJI mic 2 recording or pumping it straight into camera? Make sure 32bit float is enabled via receiver.
what camera app are you using on your iPhone to record? would recommend black magic camera app. Also is your receiver & transmitter gain max out to +12?
@@Fredo.heavyy receiver & transmitter are set to +12 now. Learning this black magic app right now.. was expecting to find that setting for 36 bit to ensure its coming through. Managed to get good quality sound out when talking close 5 cm away from the mic.
@@Fredo.heavyy right on. You mentioned the SM7DB and I thought you meant there would be phantom power there to power the internal cloud lifter. Paused your video and saw that you had the cloud lifter on "bypass". Good to know the noise floor is nice and low so you can turn up the signal in post and it wont sound like crap!
Hello! First of all, congratulations on the video! I tried using the DJI Mic 2 with headphones to listen to myself during recording and I'm experiencing some latency. Has this happened to you? How can I fix it?
As a Osmo Pocket 3 owner, I feel a little screwed that DJI doesn't sell the Mic 2 a single mic kit with the charging case. If you buy the single mic bundle, they give you a stupid little pouch and charging cable. Also, I wonder how many of the Mic 2's can connect to the Osmo Pocket 3 internally via bluetooth. Great video and I'm definitely getting the 2 mic set and I guess I'll have 3 mics all together. Weird and unthoughtful by DJI, but it is what it its I guess... What does the battery life look like when powering the Shure mic?
@@Fredo.heavyy Thanks I'll check it out. Hopefully your cold winter won't last too much longer. Here in Florida it's been great with weather in the 60's and 70's.

Okay. Respect. I thought you were internally recording 32bit and then upping the volume in post. But it looks like you're using the direct recording. Wow. But I don't think it'll power my SM7b, because it needs more preamp. And: Good video :D.
It does power the SM7DB no preamp no phantom power, that what’s being tested and proved. I am syncing the 32bit float file in post after recording internally. I am not boosting the gain cause I set the levels correctly.
How’d it go? I’m considering the Sm7b - and currently don’t have an interface or cloudlifter but do have a DJI Osmo Pocket 3. Would it work with a SM7B or u need toe SM7DB?
Heads up, seems like they might have disabled this feature with a firmware update. There are some other type adapter you can use to try to make it work but I haven’t fully tested it yet.
Hey Fredo, thank you for the video. I saw a few reviews, especially the ones by Curtis Judd and Wayne Recs that have made me think twice before going for the mic 2. @@Fredo.heavyyI am waiting for your video as well. I’d use a mogami XLR to 3.5mm cable : www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/483163-REG/Mogami_GOLD_XLRF_MINI_018_Gold_Stereo_Mini_Male.html/?ap=y&ap=y&smp=y&smp=y&smpm=ba_f2_lar&lsft=BI%3A6879&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD7yMh3yux9DvjYWoBF9ootYf2TR-&gclid=Cj0KCQiAtaOtBhCwARIsAN_x-3JRB62h-qM1o9eqnO07W4BwyPit3vq2OpFHAFg6fLiPJEmPb1TTd-4aAsd2EALw_wcB

Does it work good?
Have you tried to hook up the mic 2 transmitter to a mixer essentially recording audio from a board taking a Tascam or Zoom out of the equation?
It’s possible, just buy a line level attenuator to not burn the dji mic since it’s only made for receiving mics power signals.
@@elomboekane4284what’s a good line level attenuator ?
@@elomboekane4284also why will it burn the dji mics doing to this way ?

@@Fredo.heavyy Seems like they killed the feature then, I looked everywhere to try and find some documentation that confirmed the DJI Mic 2 had phantom power and nothing nowhere. Anyway, I realized I'm better off putting the DJI Mic 2 on a stand and use it as a mic, works well and using the magnet clip, it's super easy to set up. Now, I just need to make it look presentable. Thanks for the clarification!
Can you connect 2 shure mic to one dji?
It’s gonna be one mic per transmitter via 3.5mm to XLR.
Maybe you could use some kinda splitter but I don’t imagine it work our sound any good.
@@Fredo.heavyy maybe that can be your next video.
Can I hook that set up to my samsung S23???
You can sync it together in post OR plug in the receiver into the Samsung S23 (as long as you set gain correctly)
Great review 👏👏
I wonder, Did you apply any post Audio processing for the XLR test?
Also, Did you compare the Audio quality of Dji Mic 2 in your studio environment with and without the XLR? I am curious about the differences. Thanks :))
No post processing beside a small gain boost to normalize audio
@@Fredo.heavyyThats awesome. XLR acts like a super LAV mic 😍
@@Q8Webmasterliterally super lav mic 😂🔥 so cool
from what ive heard so far on a few different videos, the dji mic 2 sounds a bit muffled in the field. maybe thats the noise cancelling.
Can the rode wireless pro do this also
Technically, yes but I haven’t tested it
Powerfull ! Do you know if the dji mic 2 can power the JZ V11 ? Thx :)
That mic is a little out of my price range so can’t test it
@@Fredo.heavyywhat are u talking about? The mic ur using is only $100 cheaper. The sm7db is a $500!

DJI Mic 2 isn't working with my Rode Smart Lav+
Doesn't work with Shure lav mic either. This lav works great with the DJI mic 1 though
@@jemchevillotte It must also be TRRS. Try the Rode SC3 TRRS to TRS converter cable. It will work with that.
That did the trick, thanks!
@@Fredo.heavyy 32 bit is turned ON. Recording on iPhone 12 pro with DJI receiver attached to the phone.
What could it be?
what camera app are you using on your iPhone to record? would recommend black magic camera app.
The Mic2 transmitter has phantom power?
You don’t need phantom power, the transmitter has enough juice to power the thing and the 32bit lets you raise level in post with no noise
Will it power the sm7b? I know the db has built in lifter so it’s easier to power that one.
This video is with the preamp disabled so it’s running like regular SM7B
@@Fredo.heavyy Oh wow that's massive!

Hello! First of all, congratulations on the video!
I tried using the DJI Mic 2 with headphones to listen to myself during recording and I'm experiencing some latency. Has this happened to you? How can I fix it?
Still latency?
I heard another reviewer say that you can buy the case separately.
Her channel is named Gemini connect, check it out i might be wrong
@@Fredo.heavyy Thanks I'll check it out. Hopefully your cold winter won't last too much longer. Here in Florida it's been great with weather in the 60's and 70's.

Can I use a cloud lifter with SM7b with DJI mic 2?
How about a DJI 2 versus Shure Lav ?
Awesome job
Does anyone know if you can do this same thing with the rode wireless pro? just got my set.
Hmm gonna figure out how to utilize this set up for my podcast until I’m ready to purchase a rodecaster.

Just picked up a pair for my channel. Great to know about the SM7b too! I own one so I’ll do some tests also. Thanks brother! 🙌🏽
It will only work if u have the sm7DB which has a preamp that makes it ALL possible. He plugged a powered mic into an amp and was suprised it worked
@@TechTokOffical ohhhhhhhhhhhhh. Damn.
@@TechTokOfficalNo that’s not right, he didn’t even touch the preamp option on the shure mic
Okay.
@@Fredo.heavyy thanks. I‘ve got the mic 2 here and I will test it out today
How’d it go? I’m considering the Sm7b - and currently don’t have an interface or cloudlifter but do have a DJI Osmo Pocket 3.
Would it work with a SM7B or u need toe SM7DB?
@@sammyvandenburg in my limited testing, you would need the dB for that. It’s too weak for my sm7b. But it’s a great system and I love it!

Hey Fredo, thank you for the video. I saw a few reviews, especially the ones by Curtis Judd and Wayne Recs that have made me think twice before going for the mic 2. In my opinion, the sound quality doesn't really stand out, but I'm thinking of getting a lav mic, which could probably allow for better sound. Did you test it with a lav mic as well?
I’ve seen those review and am in the middle of my own testing.
Producing a video with the results later today.
@@Fredo.heavyyI am waiting for your video as well. Why didn't you compare the DJI with your studio mic? You kept on mentioning that it could replace it but you failed to compare!!! WTF???
My claim is that the DJI Mic 2 is powerful enough to run a SHURE SM7DB.

It's not "incredibly impressive" when you have DJi 2 powering something that has a built in gain booster in it. If you got the DJ to power a tradition SM7B be itself, that would be impressive.
The built in gain booster is off, that’s whole reason I made the video.
Lol loud n wrong. So just so I understand basically to make this work. All you need is a XLR to 3.5 mm adapter? And then all I need is the Shure mic and then the DJI Mic 2?

The preamp is disabled during the entirety of the video, it’s solely the DJI Mic 2 pushing power to the SM7DB.
I would not recommend trying to enable the preamp in this application, watch the video again and try paying attention.

Bro!! Been watching your content a few weeks now! You're the first to mention the DJI mic 2 release date for me, I am definitely going to be ordering mine today. I had the first version but returned them after a couple weeks when I filmed a friend's wedding and the lav miv popped out (but I popped back in right after thinking it was fine) and failed to record the audio, it sucked! thankfully I had a shotgun mic on my A74 which caught pretty decent audio which I was able to save in post. It is a weird quirk that those Mics have! Lesson learned! Anywho Keep up the great work! You are killing it right now and seeing your improvement over the past year is inspiring for folks like me who want to improve our content creating skills! Cheers!
