Like, not really a "big bad" like Mandroid/Dr. Meridian. (Edit: Maybe something along the lines of the human villain team, S.U.V. from TFA?)
I do agree with Chris; I think the Quintessons will appear in S2.
I like to think that D-16 just has Megatronus's face on his shoulder as a "tattoo" because he's just a big fan of him.

I started noticing the Aligned Continuity callbacks when the trailer revealed Megatron’s old name was “D-16.” Though I never knew D-16 was a reference to the original Japanese toy packaging. That’s a real deep-cut Easter Egg, I love it.
I heard of d-16 from roll out 2 by TFI creations. Though it was given to galvatron and not megatron.
The Peter Cullen cameo I’m hoping for is for him to be the voice of Primus saying “arise, Optimus Prime.”
Or, if theres the Council involved, like TFP, then maybe one of the Council members says that. Either way, it'd be really cool.
Or, and this is probably the case, he voices him when he officially becomes Optimus Prime.
I noticed that B-127 was Yellow at the beginning of the trailer but when he gets his T-Cog his colors changes to Gold so he kept his Bee name while looking like GoldBug upgrade form
They are probably referencing the bumblebee to goldbee shift for his evolution post t-cog, but I think it might also be the lighting. To me, it looks like they just made him shinier, like he's brand new compared to when he was a dirty waste Management robot.
5:11 Looks to me like he was always gold, but the subpar lighting underground didn't show it well.

I like that as they first attempt transforming, they actually address theoretical issues, like Orion not able to see as he "loses his head".
Wait, normally, how are they able to see in altmode? Is there like some sort of sensor/scanner that kinda "scans" their surroundings in real time; this is sent immediately to their eyes/optics, allowing them to "see"?
@@fennekin1750probably, like a mini HUD that projects what's around them. Although, it appears that they don't have any knowledge of that when they first attempt to transform.

I'm interested that the conclusion you drew for the symbol D-16 is wearing makes him some sort of believer or follower of Megatronus Prime, akin to wearing a crucifix.
My best guess was that the symbol acts as some kind of warning to his superiors, saying he doesn't follow orders, but he later mixes its design with Megattonus' mask to create the proper Decepticon insignia.
Technically Megatron was taking direct inspiration from history of Fallen, as rebel against system.
He obviously was not aware that Predaking was framed.
We see what looks like a decepticon branding iron in the trailer. Perhaps D-16 gets branded with the symbol as punishment and takes it as a point of pride to rally his army behind.
Thanks for an unbiased video free of the bile everyone else seem to be regurgitating. The movie looks to be a fun movie for all ages, which is exactly what transformers should be.
side note, I love that you always explain things as if it's the first time a viewer hears about it, instead of assuming everyone knows every tiny bit of lore by heart.

Same. Was a fan since the start. I used to joke that when I called The Movie the most traumatic film of my childhood, someone would say "because of Prime?" and I would answer "No, Ratchet and Ironhide getting slaughtered before that left me numb by Prime's death."
@@templarw20 yup. it was the orange smoke coming out of Prowl's eyes and mouth, after getting punked by a freaking Constructicon that got me.
The underground bots forbidden to reach the surface seems like an inverse of Gigantion from the "Transformers Cybertron" cartoon where they build a new outer surface once in a while as their population expands, but the abandoned lower levels are off-limits for exploration.
Great job, Chris, one thing of note is my theory about the symbol D-16 is wearing. I don't think he is wearing that symbol willingly. It could be the Cybertronian equivalent of a scarlet letter and D-16 committed some transgression in the past which made him forced to wear that symbol. Hence why Orion and the others aren't wearing it.
Ooh, that's good, that's plausible! And him making it the symbol of his new faction is him taking it and making it his own, like the Autobot symbol being the Quintesson slave brand in the G1 cartoon!
That also lines up with the heated up deception symbol in the trailer, like it’s a branding iron.

Makes sense with the Aligned Continuity parallels too. I remember one episode of Transformers Prime, where Megatron explained that the name 'Decepticon' was used by others to demonize him and his faction, but they ended up taking pride in the name instead.
Perhaps the Decepticon mark in this film is being used in the same vein - a mark designed to out one as a traitor to Cybertron (like Megatronus was to the Primes), which Megatron decides to embrace as he forms his Decepticon army.
Perhaps seeing the body of Megatronus on the cave will be the catalyst that makes him see it as more of a symbol than a punishment.
One thought that came to me regarding their lack of t-cogs is that it might be some form of empurata.
What better way to show to the world that they are lower class than visual scarring them, as in showing all that they have no t-cog, and at what better way to remind the victim where they belong but to remove their ability to transform.
I could be completely wrong, but this is the conclusion I draw from what I've seen. Only time will tell if I'm right or wrong.
Well, considering the fact that our main characters are very unfamiliar with T-Cogs, & therefore don't know how to transform, I feel like its more of some sort of Rite of Passage type thing; everyone else or at least most of everyone else already has one. & miners/lower class also aren't allowed to have one to keep workers in check. & I'm thinking Orion (& maybe Elita, too) is actually from higher class*, but does something _deemed_ wrong, which somehow involved Megs/D-16, so as punishment, hes sent to the mines. This is why D-16 doesn't what to talk to Orion & is pretty salty in the beginning of the trailer. Maybe Orion is still a librarian/data clerk/archivist, like in TFP? *If so, this could be why Orion is overall more open(??) regarding the surface, when Megs/D-16 isn't, because hes afraid of what could happen if he gets into trouble, considering hes been in the mines his entire life.
I'm also thinking that lower class are all given number names, hence why Megs & Badassitron are known as D-16 & B-127, respectively. Maybe when Orion (& maybe Elita, too) are sent to the mines, they are assigned number names, too, but they reject them, still preferring their "normal" names. D-16 & B-127 don't reject their number names because they were assigned to them at birth. Badassitron is probably trying to hide his pain/misery with a positive & fun outlook; because of this & what I said above, is why he is trying to change his name/thinking of nicknames, such as Badassitron.
To be a bit of Shockwave for a moment... It's the most logical conclusion. Why would they have visible sockets for T-Cogs, if they're not meant to have T-Cogs? If you're creating a mechanical worker class that's never meant to have them, then you'd engineer them to not have the sockets. "It doesn't matter if you find/steal a T-Cog because you've got nowhere to put it". Whereas, if the social class is more about robbing them of a power they've got at the beginning, then yeah. "You're a worker bot, your T-Cog has been removed. You're not likely to ever get it back. Unless you prove useful enough, maybe." would likely be the reality of how they're indoctrinated. Illusion of some possible upward mobility, even if the actual upward mobility is impossible. Motivation to work harder and harder, and be that dedicated worker for the theoretical chance to earn back that T-Cog. And Orion and D-16 see through that lie... Sort of like how kids get told IRL all the time that if they work hard enough, they can be whatever they want. But the harsh reality is that the system keeps people down, and most people don't realize that until they're stuck in a position of little power to do anything about it. So, possible social commentary added to the goofy fun movie.
In my opinion it is this universe way of binding slaves with chains. Not gonna let the working bots transform and escape .

I feel like this movie might go the route of X-Men First Class. Meaning, similar to Magneto in that movie, Megatron isn't the big villain, but his villain origin story happens over the course of the movie and it will end with him doing something messed up (ex. Magneto forcing the coin through Shaw's head) that splits him and his friends apart and causes him to start down the path to becoming the villain everyone knows him to be.
Maybe the death of Alpha Trion will be the cause of the splintering between OP and Meg.
Or Orion and D-16, now properly Optimus Prime and Megatron, will fight each other like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker.
I wasn't that enthused when I initially watched the trailer but after watching your video, I'm actually kind of interested in this now. It certainly helped with the context by putting everything within the history of the franchise. Thanks for that!

Given how alphanumeric designations seem to be common in the movie's continuity with D-16 and B-127, I can imagine a Vehicon being named "ST3V3" or something like that.

This breakdown is way better than the Emergency Awesome one I watched earlier today, as Chris really knows his subject.
Cybertron itself seemed to be changing and transforming in the trailer, which is cool! Also the presence of plantlife and wildlife gave me the vibes of Beast Machines of Cybertron being a more natural-looking world before the Cybertronians built over everything.
Some continuities depict Cybertron as the alt mode of Primus, so it makes sense that the planet transforms
Cyberverse also had kinda nature/plant-like environments. & personally, I actually like that; it makes Cybertron feel more alive, instead of a barren metal wasteland with buildings, cities, etc.
Best break down by a country mile
Megatronus: “Us turning on each other. It’s what they want. I tried to warn you Orion. I want you by my side, we’re brothers you & I, all of us together, protecting each other. We want the same thing.”
Orion Pax: “My friend, I’m sorry, but we do not.”
Important note was that Megatron was a Minicon modified by Unicorn cult as false leader for the Cybertronians.
He was not actually evil, but didn't have a choice, as Shockwave could activate his kill switch.
After he is liberated later in the story, he actually join Autobots, as he was genuinely friend of Optimus.

@@GalvyTheTom I wouldn't call Transformers lore a "fan fic". But it is true that Hasbro is notoriously bad in adopting it. Fun fact. Megatronus actually fail to kill Prima, killing his lover Solus Prime while coincidentally attacking Optimus instead Prima. Later Prima(l) show up as assistant of Primacron known as Oracle and he actually become Vector Sigma. I must praise the fact in this show that Alpha Trion has beast form, as that more accurate.

I absolutely love your breakdown of the trailer. If I remembered correctly, this is supposed to be a retelling of War Dawn so my hope is somehow Dion won’t be excluded in the spotlight this time. Our dear old boy needs some recognition
Its not actually a retelling of War Dawn, or not mostly, anyway. Its supposed to take inspiration from several different versions of the Orion/Megs origin. Theres probably some TFP in there, some G1, some IDW, etc.
But, I do agree that Dion shouldn't be excluded, even if hes not a main character.
Probably a long shot but the nearest of the two at the end 'agreeing' that the door was always like that, was giving me Greenlight vibes.

@@isplat927 I saw their mouths open, I just didn't know exactly if both of them spoke, meaning their speech was audible. Did they both speak clearly/fully audible, or did Mirage's voice "cover"(?) Greenlight's to the point that you mainly only hear Mirage? While watching the trailer, its a little difficult to hear if they both spoke clearly/fully audible, or not. To me, it kinda sounded like just Mirage's voice was mostly audible, sort of "covering"(?) Greenlight's. If this is truly the case, then there is actually a pretty good chance that she is Greenlight.
If I remember the IDW tie-ins to the original Bayverse trilogy, there was an attack by aliens that wasn't the Quintessons and Megatron wanted to make a stronger army to protect the planet. It's also possible The Fallen's head in the trailer could be alive and communicating to Megatron.
It more likely the Quintessons since their the more likely candidate than some obscure aliens back when the movies used to have an extended universe before Bay came back to make more movies, which ended up clashing with the comics.

Finally. After the staleness of the last two decades, we get something fresh.
Finally getting something with a ton of lore.
Fresh does not equal good. This movie seems like shitty sludge.
Besides the greatness of BBM & ROTB, I do agree.
Alternatively, the scene with Sentinel prime could be a flashback to a time before quintesseon takeover, where sentinel was leading a band of autobots to fight the invasion.
Very minor detail that I find kind of interesting is that the Decepticon insignia we see on D-16's shoulder (8:27), as well as The Fallen's face (7:44) are very close to the classic G1 Decepticon insignia, with triangular eyes, meanwhile the Decepticon brand we see during Megatron's final evolution into villainy at 10:50 bears the live action movie design with 4-pointed trapezoidal eyes.
Transformers not being Transformers is super interesting - bit like Doctor who having Gallerians and city dweller Time Lords.
Wasn't too keen on the trailer but after a few views. At the film's core is friendship the highs and lows. Which will ethier lead to them parting ways or the beginning of the tension between the two. Great breakdown of the trailer love all the facts and Easter eggs you point out. Very much appreciated by myself and is so enjoyable to watch. Especially when I only came across Saturday today. 😊
I've seen people questioning about why there's plant life on the surface. If we assume the Quintessons have invaded, perhaps this plant life is something they brought with them. Perhaps they're trying to terraform the surface... What we see from that side looks more organic with mechanical augments. So, perhaps they need this as a basis of food source? Also, that explains further the "don't go to the surface" thing. "Don't mess with the Quintessons' gardening", but less overtly said.
I enjoyed this very much! Its nice to have videos about this trailer that aren't just negatively condemning the film before it's even been seen. And even outside of that, this was a really fun video, highlighting the connections to greater transformers lore! I didn't even know Steve was gonna be in thos movie! :D
Not being allowed to live on the beautiful planetary surface reminds me a lot of the "outworlders" in the TransTech continuity, since the majority of the so-called "lowtechs" is also confined to the "Offworlder Zone" in the lower levels of Axiom Nexus's urban areas, basically in an "underground existence", too 🤔
Little detail i liked is that we see the burning Decepticon insignia like we did in animated when Megs marked the constructicons

11:38 I'm pretty sure that the yellow one in the middle is meant to be Brawn. It looks like he's having no trouble carrying one of those crates on his own, which seems pretty Brawn-like to me.
I was immediately excited within the first two seconds of the trailer
I think that D16 having the Decepticon symbol on his arm doesn't mean that they already exist, but is used as a symbol of shame for certain Cybertronians which he'll then later on turn it into a symbol of rebellion and freedom.
Things i noticed
The chest cavities indicate that T cogs are removed from underclass cybertronians
Quintessans hold dominion over cybertron
Starscream is part of the senate
And chris hemsworth actually makes a good Optimus/Orion voice
(Also I think Megatron should be an A10 thunderbolt 2)
Seekers were independent exploratory force under command of the Senate. While Optimus inherited official Cybertronian military, Seekers betray them joining decepticons. Megatron could not eliminate Starscreem because most Seekers and Tripticon only answer to they Air Commander. Also because Starscrim was League Maximo.
Or they never had T-Cogs in the first place, hence why once they got them, they had no idea how to transform; they clearly never transformed before. So, its unlikely that they were removed. But, it does feel like some sort of Rite of Passage type thing; most Cybertronians get one at a certain point or something, except for lower class/miners, in order for workers to be kept in check.

It's actually gonna be a great movie for several reasons:
1. Most of the ideas from other shows, games, and comics coming into one on the big screens
2. For once in a Transformers movie, no human characters, since they get more attention than their species name
3. A movie about pre-war cybertron and it's golden age
4. Optimus Prime and Megatron's past lives showing up in the big screens
And lastly, because the Great War will probably happen soon, leading to the starting point of how, when, and why the war started (and hopefully not making it's way to earth yer until the second movie)
I think for Elita one, that they said her backstory is gonna be the big sister to Arcee in this film. Still the way that you kind of broke down this trailer indicates that they may be hinting at the direction that they’re going forward with.
I love how the general lore of transformers is constantly evolving by incorporating elements from not only other installments, but real life such as D-16!😀❤
Thank you for this video breakdown! I don't like calling people 'fake fans' but seeing so many people dog pile on the trailer of this movie that clearly don't realize that this movie is heavily pulling from the established lore, with of course some changes, was kinda surprising. I can understand people that are put off by the comedic tone (I am not, I love it so far) and that is a fair criticism that should be taken seriously, but people mad because 'Why are they ruining Transformers! Why did they make Optimus Prime and Megatron friends! Why does Optimus Prime look like that!?' is such a downer for what should be excitement for getting more Transformers! Oh and also people being upset they got regular actors instead of voice actors are right to be upset, don't get me wrong, they sound good so far, but there are so many talented VA's out there, they shouldn't have to shell out all this money to get a named attached to it, hire actual working VA's.

He's probably going to be the main source for Comedy. A Comedic foil to the Serious tone of the film.

I think the story WILL see a War with the Quintessons but not the actual Great War. I think instead of Pax being named Prime. I think Pax will be given full and total credit for saving the planet from Quintessons and not manage to convince everyone it was a group effort. Leading to that original falling out with D-16.
I don't think we'll see the Great War at all. This will either set it up as a sequel movie or a sequel paramount plus series in its own right.
Oh definitely, the end of this movie will be, at most, the falling-out that begins the spiral into great war. But - again, assuming it's not a flash-forward - that IS the Matrix in Optimus's chest in that one shot, so he could definitely still get anointed. It's got to be a film that takes the characters to that recognisable point in their lves in order to wholly function as a "prequel" in the event they don't make any more.
Perhaps Optimus gets all the credit because he gets the Matrix. A Prime rejecting the Quintessons and making up for a past Prime's failures would be the talk of the world.

I’m still not on board with the new voices, to give credit Hemsworth does do a good job matching the cadence of Cullen, but I would’ve just preferred getting Peter Cullen & Frank Welker back.

I feel like the Decepticon symbol on D-16's arm has a "tattoo" sort of vibe. Perhaps a "prison" tattoo after they've been locked up for a spell?
Seeing as they studiously avoid it being said in the trailer, my tinfoil hat theory has become that they might not say "Dee Sixteen" but like Bee is "Bee One Twenty-Seven" proto-Megs may be "Dee One Six", or "Dee-One" for short, which isn't far off G1 Orion's best mate's name, and they have cheekily smooshed Megs into Dion to make an Anakin/Vader riff!
I'll buy a Lottery ticket if I'm actually right about that!
The idea of turning Megatron into a version of Dion and a best friend of Optimus is going to make this hurt more if it is accurate. 😢

Huh... I missed the dead Primes when I first watched the trailer. That is... even more interesting. Makes me wonder if that's part of why they seem to be super-charged compared to others. Not just have T-Cogs, but having parts from the Primes. Sort of like what happened to Optimus and Megatron in S3 of Beast Wars.
Being 40 yo myself, being a huge fan since I was 3, I am sooooo hyped about TF ONE. I am literally moving in small jumps. It seems that finally an old franchise is being treated with the proper comedic seriousness and respect it deserves.
Especially after the disappointment we keep on getting by many other franchises, no need to mention them here, you know of what I speak.

A bit of a long shot theory but I think D-16 could be the last of The Fallen troops from his fight with the other Primes.
He and the Prime's thought for the universe (The Fallen wanting to rule it and the Prime's fighting against his tyranny), while The Fallen was defeated (either dead or banished to a prison like state/dimension) his was scattered and the remaining Autobots were too exhausted to fight against The Quintesson invasion.
And I think D-16 is a late activated Protoform bot from The Fallen's amy. And throughout the flim, he'll be a walking red flag as his original design begins to awaken from the T-Cog being placed in him with his true nature being revealed.
Flabbergasted that even after 40 years, many are still salty about this movie being a different take on the mythos. Transformers has been doing different mythos and takes from the absolute very beginning between the G1 cartoon and G1 comic. This is not new.

That's not the issue. Many fans are upset with the overly comedic tone of the film.
Comedy is fine and even necessary for certain tonal balance but here it's far too goofy especially given the backstory of the Great war.

TF prime is a perfect example. Besides kids today are far more mature and have seen so many worse things in media so why can't we have a TF film that appeals to both kids and adults like TF prime?

The plant life appearing on the surface reminds me of how Beast Machines ended. Kinda hoping that'll referenced in the movie
Considering this is the same team behind 2011's Rango and it appears to take place before Earthspark given the art direction and Bee's personality in that show as someone who has simmered down quite a lot, this very feels much like a fake-out trailer.

I think you hit it right on the head! I bet we see D16 and Orion Pax come together to fight against the Quintesson and then at the end they will become Megatron and Optimus prime setting up for the second movie! I think the trailer showed a majority of the humor, and the actual movie will probably be a lot more filled and plot driven!
Wow, so many connections and drawbacks. It's amazing how all of the little details are combining to make for a good and concise Transformers film. Something almost no other Transformers movie before could do save for a few.
When B-127 is chopping things up at the end of the trailer, just as he slices off the top of a chair, a character resembling Ironhide can be seen on the control desk to the right. It would be really cool if we get a closer look at this character in the movie and it does turn out to be Ironhide. It is also possible that he will help the protagonists and earn himself a spot in the Autobots towards the end of the movie.

Anyways, I have to admit that this new video dealing with the Transformers: One was absolutely incredible. I really enjoyed the details that you found in this trailer and how they connect to one and another. In addition to finding out that this film takes inspiration for the inlined continuity that Hasbro was working on.

A great breakdown. Finding why Megatron was called D-16 is a great detail I never would have guessed. I'm onboard with this movie and hope it is good. I've long accepted that Transformers will keep rebooting, it just shows how great the base premise is. So as long as the new versions are fun and worthwhile I'll be backing them. The G1 cartoon will always hold my heart but I'm always willing to enjoy the new stuff.
I hope we get more breakdown videos like this as more new projects emerge in the future.

This is a very nice coverage of the trailer and how it links to transformers cannon. I’ve seen other videos that don’t do that and mostly feature complaints about how “Optimus Prime” doesn’t have Peter Cullen’s voice etc, not realising that it is actually Orion Pax in the beginning and perhaps most of the movie.
originally i had doubts about this film being promising, but now you pointed out these easter eggs i think ill be sure to give it a watch
I love the energon miner version where he becomes a noble hero (which gives reason to why his older troops are so loyal) and then becomes a corrupted tyrant monster because of all he has lost and the pyrrhic nature of the victory he ultimately seeks
I really believe that maybe for this continuity whenever a new transformers is created and gets assigned to the lower class it has to go through a mandatory cog removal surgery idk it’s a theory I have

But, they clearly never had a T-Cog, therefore not knowing how to transform. If that were true, then once they get them from Alpha Trion, they'd be struggling a bit, but get the hang of it real quick; almost like muscle memory, or something. But, thats clearly not the case from what we see in the trailer. They are very confused on how transforming actually works by this point in the movie.

@@ChrisMcFeelyThat was also my exact guess, since as soon as they receive the T-Cogs their bodies further develop. So, in turn I could imagine that right after they rose from the well/the hot spots on cybertron (or whatever else the source of cybertronian life will be in this continuity) the Cogs were removed from their still close to protoform-like bodies resulting in them remaining in a sort of physically underdeveloped state.
So I completely agree with what other people in this comment section have said, that the holes their chests seem to indicate the lack of something they used to have (i.e. the T-Cogs).
Btw I just wanted to say thank you for all the effort you put into this breakdown and for being so positive about the trailer when a big portion of the first reactions the film received were (or at least seemed to be) overwhelmingly negative. Obviously people are and should be allowed to have their own opinions and give criticism, but I personally found it sort of sad that people immediately jumped to conclusions and were condemning a movie that we've seen barely 3 minutes of. So thank you for doing what you do!

Maybe what would become the Decepticon symbol was originally something else, some mark of shame to denote some misdeed they deemed bad enough. Given that Megatronus was the fallen Prime, his face could be viewed in a negative light. D-16 may have been branded against his will but he made it his own as he became Megatron.
I've seen a lot of complaints that the trailer makes the film seem like a 'buddy' film that's going to be light on tone and a bit 'kiddy'.
I think there are enough hints in the trailer that there's a darkness within the story. Obviously the Quintesson's invasion but also the scene where Megatron is kneeling at the corpse of Megatronus, almost like that's the beginning of his descent, or possibly the final stage of his descent, into becoming Megatron. I'm quite excited to be getting a film that is purely Transformers and doesn't contain any humans.
EDIT: I also get Goldbug vibes from B's battle mask.
The way Bee reacts to 'knife hands' makes me think they never had T-Cogs and the lower classes can't transform.... And that's what makes them lower classes.
I had a theory they are removed before they are fully forged. That way Quintessons have control over the populace before they can think to rebel.
