Man I missed these wish it was once a week as I get so much knowledge from these as I’m a G1 toon guy never read the comics so this helps me understand so much about the history that I didn’t know!
My Headcanon: Unicron was a planet sized robot built by the Evil Scientist Primacron which he used a planet rich with Angolmois energy which he used to give Unicron sentients and godlike powers. Unicron then turned on Primacron for his own ambitions Primus’ Evil brother, Dark Nova who’s lifeblood is Dark Energon. Dark Energon has power raise the Dead as Zombicons. It is very poisonous to bots but 1 in a 100 chance if a bot inserts it into his Spark Chamber he would have his powers increase immensely and can Control Zombicons but the drawback is when a Bot inserts Dark Energon into their sparks they become bound the Dark Nova’s Anti Spark
The 2004 Transformers Armada PS2 game actually has a cut Minicon known as a "Dark Energon Blaster". The game didn't really have any connection to the show so it is unknown if the Minicons in the game were from Unicron or not. No one would've known about this Minicon back when Dark Energon was introduced, so it's a mere coincidence that a Minicon happened to have a power name similar to the life blood that was introduced later of the one who created them. Also, that Minicon is called "Endgame", which is cool.
I had my own head canon made to reconcile the two versions of Unicron. Both Primus and Unicron are both gods who had battle. In order to defeat Unicron, Primus destroyed the physical form of Unicron and the result trapped him into a rock which eventually was settle by the Quintessons. Then Unicorn used a super computer made by the Quintessons called Vector Sigma to accomplish his will and gave sentients to the Transformers. He also gave up portion of himself to create the Matrix of Leadership. Meanwhile Unicorn drifted without body, shape, or form through the universe until encountering Primacron. Unicron used his supernatural abilities to influence Primacron into making the planet transforming body that we all known and love. Primacron never realizing that while he did make this massive machine, he really didn't give it life, it just became a shell for the supernatural god of chaos to dwell.
My personal view of it is that Dark Energon is to Angolmois what Energon is to Super Energon: the rare super powered stuff that's only truly found/given by the source.
6:55 I used to have that issue when it first released... I'm 24 now, and I wish I had taken better care of it... I'm glad I took excellent care of my dad's original g1 character profiles issues and still have the first 4 issues to this day
There was one point that got missed out about Dark Energon, which was answered by the OVA/Finale of Transformers Prime/Beast Hunters- Rise of Predaking: Those only who have the strong twisted will who infused Dark Energon to themselves, when slain- their Bodies would be reduced to nothing more but empty husks: but their Spark/Spirit not only would be bound for Unicronian Purgatory- but their mortal bodies will be used by Unicron Prime itself to live again. And there’s no other Transformer who I can think of ending in such manner- but the Tyrannical Decepticon Warmonger himself: Megatron.
I was really interested in seeing how you tackled this topic since it's a bit of a beast, but you handled it masterfully. In videos like this especially I appreciate the balance you manage to strike between the Doylist and Watsonian perspectives.
You know, I want to see a series where they blend Unicron's origins. Have him and Primus start out as living energy/spirit beings, and perhaps Primacron is a worshipper of Unicron and builds him a physical body so he can interact with the material world, perhaps with the Transformers who would become the Primes devoting Cybertron to Primus in the meantime.
As Unicron once said in the original transformers comic back then- I can’t not be analyze, study or synthesis! At least that’s what I remember him saying.
There is a non-zero chance you will ever read this, but do you think you could do a video on the weaponry of the transformers? Basically everything from Prime's Ion cannon to the Netron Assault Rifle in War for Cybertron.
6:28/6:47 So for someone like myself, whose headcannon connects every single story of the G1 cartoon together, what would be the best way to retcon these vastly different concepts to create a smooth and proper timeline of events?
interesting. Before I saw or heard of any of that (angolmois, dark energon), my fanficverse take on how Unicron got his powers (going by the cartoon/Primacron origin) was consuming planets rich in "Mako" energy (see: Final Fantasy VII) - basically, the "Lifestream" of a planet (which naturally would need to be inhabited by life forms by definition). This would give him magical/supernatural powers.
Ok I got an awesome idea for this. Imagine that on Earth on a remote island you have all that dark energon, the dark energon is surrounded by a swamp. Now this massive swamp surrounded by deranged mutated wildlife is actually angolmois, water corrupted by the dark energon. That island was feared by the locals and many terrifying stories were told of that place.
Somehow, all these years, I'd never heard that Unicron as Cybertron was a Japanese Beast Wars idea. Always assumed it was the Titan comic that did it first. Presumably Furman liked the idea when he did the research for the Ascending and sourcebook?
A fun thing the Aligned Continuity could’ve done was have Dark Energon be discovered on earth in ancient times. Well the time of Nostradamus at least. And it was named Angolmois. In a more serious story that I doubt would’ve been made for a Y7 series, Dark Energon was used by evil cults. Sorcerers who had mastered its corrupting powers. They could use their dark magic to make Rock Lords (explained as energizing the metal within them that was part of Unicron). And for years a secret war was waged between the Knights of Camelot and these dark cultists. Merlin was a wizard that stood counter to the Angolmois. His powers were from normal Energon and he even was taught by either Primus himself or the time traveling Vector Prime attempting to keep the timeline in order. Either way, Merlin’s life was extended and he forged Excalibur from a chunk of Energon. Unbeknownst to him, he unconsciously shaped the blade to resemble the Star Saber. After using it to banish the first generation of Angolmois cultists, he placed an enchantment on it and waited for the day a man worthy of being king would purge the darkness from their land. But Nostradamus foresaw the return of Angolmois. It was wielded by a giant clad in armor. But another “giant in crimson and azure” stood against him. A battle before a volcano erupting with Angolmois. And the threat of the coming of King of Angolmois lurked deep within. He then recites the Cybertronian Prophecy “The weak shall perish in the shadow of a rising darkness.” In another vision he saw the other giant claim Excalibur for himself. Cleave a mountain in 2 and strike fear in the dark warrior. But that was all he could see. It could be a 2 parter. The first being this discovery of hidden earth history and lore. With those beautiful illustrations that were a staple of the series. During which a human wizard brings forth Rock Lords. Kneels before Megatron and pledges his allegiance and servitude. And the next being a tidy resolution. With a surprise twist of Jack finding Excalibur and purging Dark Energon from the dark wizard and Megatron keeping him imprisoned with Silas as Shockwave’s new test subject. To find out how a human could possibly survive contact with the dark substance. Add in a bonus scene where Miko and Raf go nuts about Jack being related to King Arthur. But Excalibur is drained of its energy and is hung in Unit E as a souvenir. Optimus gives a speech about humanity being more tied to their world than they thought and are “more than meets the eye.” And ending on Excalibur pulsing blue as to indicate its power may be returning.
I understand that the transformers legacy line will be introducing a transforming figure of the deception's space cruiser, the "Nemesis", in addition to the previous figure of the autobot "Ark". so I thought it would make a great topic of discussion for a "Basics" video somewhere down the line.
War for Cybertron game shows Megatron starts the War by breaching the moon base where Dark Energon is kept away from Cybertron. It empowered Megatron instead of killing him
This is the kinda lore people look at me weird for remembering because of how obscure it is. But I just don’t care because how fascinating I find any of the lore surrounding unicron. And people are gonna want to learn about unicron for sure now as the new movie approaches…
Wouldn't it be messed up if Unicron and Primus were linked, so that as Unicron consumes and destroys it gives Primus the energy and material needed for him to create
I think my take is that it can turn dead TFs into zombies (basically action master sparkless with purple stuff flowing out like prime Terrorcons) and can drive alive TFs who try to use it crazy, but if theyre able to control its effects and become one woth it, they can evolve and gain more super natural powers. However, unlike those who trained to use it or were created with such powers, they hurt themselves if they used said power, and ultimately became enslaved to the chaos bringer himself.
With concepts of inherent good and evil falling somewhat out of fashion these days, I wonder if we'll ever get a Primus representing Order & Creation and Unicron representing Chaos & Destruction but neither good nor evil? Or maybe Primus being Chaos & Creation and Unicron Order & Destruction? It could be fun to play around with the cosmological ideas in different ways.
The blood of a cosmic robot that is used as a power source. How wild. But I guess using Dark Energon makes it easier for Unicron to take control of you.
The use of Dark Energon in Transformers Prime, most ultimately the price of using it, thus consigning the user’s spirit to Transformer Hell, is really terrifying.
Until today, I never could determine how Angolmois was to be pronounced, and just went with Ann-gol-moy. the origin of its name, however, is intriguing, and I thank you for closing the case of how to pronounce it.
I'm of the idea that yes Primecron created Unicron but only his physical body. Primecron was subconsciously influenced by Unicron to build it because Unicron was, for whatever reason, unable to physically manifest himself in the G1 timeline.
Blood, Sang, Sangre, Blut, Sangue, Koko, Кровь, 血, דָם , دم, खून, Αίμα, Bloed, Igazi; we call it by different names, but they essentially mean the same thing.
I actually heard of the Nostradamus "King of Angolmois" prophecy before. The word "terrifying" actually doesn't appear in the original text and is instead a misinterpretation of a similar word.
Finding it funny that his origins was one of the few times that the comics took the lead instead of the cartoons as it usually goes with the franchise.

I'm wondering about how I'm gonna feature Dark Energon in my own Transformers story
10:27 It IS the evil of Unicron after all!
8:46: Behold the power of Dark Energon!
My Headcanon: Unicron was a planet sized robot built by the Evil Scientist Primacron which he used a planet rich with Angolmois energy which he used to give Unicron sentients and godlike powers. Unicron then turned on Primacron for his own ambitions
Primus’ Evil brother, Dark Nova who’s lifeblood is Dark Energon.
You got to admit that dark energon looks so pretty with it's purple glow
Making dark energon just alter by other energons and normal is effect by purity but primus rare state making light energon pious his mind?
This was the BEST episode in years for me. Good Golly
Well done on explaining the basics on Dark Energon. What a great way to start my birthday.
WFC and FOC were great games. Great video on the Dark Energon
But also interesting how starscream said dark energon could artificially manufactured
@@streetwatcher_ how is that even possible?
6:55 I used to have that issue when it first released... I'm 24 now, and I wish I had taken better care of it... I'm glad I took excellent care of my dad's original g1 character profiles issues and still have the first 4 issues to this day
There was one point that got missed out about Dark Energon, which was answered by the OVA/Finale of Transformers Prime/Beast Hunters- Rise of Predaking:
Those only who have the strong twisted will who infused Dark Energon to themselves, when slain- their Bodies would be reduced to nothing more but empty husks: but their Spark/Spirit not only would be bound for Unicronian Purgatory- but their mortal bodies will be used by Unicron Prime itself to live again.
And there’s no other Transformer who I can think of ending in such manner- but the Tyrannical Decepticon Warmonger himself:
Megatron.
Always incredible when different narrative elements end up meshing together nicely.
Thank you, Chris, for always making interesting and informative videos.
Megatron: Embrace Dark Energon! EMBRACE MEGATRON!!!
Wow, I guess my restlessness gifts me with a chris mcfeely
Video
Do THE BASICS on THE AUTOBOT RULES next, Chris!
duly appointed enforcer of the Tyrest accord
3:20 I just ordered a Tasmania Kid toy from Hasbro Pulse, and now I wanna know more about him. Obscure Characters Month, maybe?
I still don't know how I feel about the concept, but always loved the word "Angolmois" 😁
2:05 We all gonna ignore how big that ship is above Unicron's shoulder?
I want a The Basics on Chromia one day
Oh i still remember that scene in Prime when the volcano erupted dark energon
I was really interested in seeing how you tackled this topic since it's a bit of a beast, but you handled it masterfully. In videos like this especially I appreciate the balance you manage to strike between the Doylist and Watsonian perspectives.
Never thought we'd be going back to Kiss Players of all things for lore on Dark Energon.
That would be interesting especially in the war/fall of cybertron games
Dark Energon, Angolmois You got your Peanut Butter mixed with my Chocolate.
6:28/6:47 So for someone like myself, whose headcannon connects every single story of the G1 cartoon together, what would be the best way to retcon these vastly different concepts to create a smooth and proper timeline of events?
I got the impression that Unicron could only psychically torture those that he built/rebuilt...
Hearing Shockerakt's plan just makes me think of The Fall of The Eldar and the birth of the Chaos God Slaanesh from Warhammer 40k. 😅
interesting.
4:17 turns out, nostradamus was just predicting the Japan beast wars cartoons
Neat also wish bluestreak got the basics treatment
Despite digging into planets Unicron's pincers should've cracked some planets and moons in half.
Another great video, Chris!
Yes! Give us all the Unicron! And FIRST!
He then recites the Cybertronian Prophecy “The weak shall perish in the shadow of a rising darkness.”
In another vision he saw the other giant claim Excalibur for himself.
Megatron: RISE MY ARMY! BEHOLD! THE POWER OF DARK ENERGON!!!!!!!!!!
8:54: “BEHOLD! THE POWER OF DARK ENERGON!”
Dark Energon in the Aligned continuity Transformers is basically space meth
I didn't know that Space Crack had such an interesting history :)
Until today, I never could determine how Angolmois was to be pronounced, and just went with Ann-gol-moy. the origin of its name, however, is intriguing, and I thank you for closing the case of how to pronounce it.
Fantastic story! 👍👍👍👍👍😎
That’s a lot of good news. Never knew about that energy. Thanks for the review like always.
I always love to come watch this guy
I'm of the idea that yes Primecron created Unicron but only his physical body. Primecron was subconsciously influenced by Unicron to build it because Unicron was, for whatever reason, unable to physically manifest himself in the G1 timeline.
Primus & Matrix of the Leadership to save Earth vs Unicron & Dark Energon to destroy Earth🏔🌋
I don’t think Unicron would care what we call it, evil energy is still evil !
Blood, Sang, Sangre, Blut, Sangue, Koko, Кровь, 血, דָם , دم, खून, Αίμα, Bloed, Igazi; we call it by different names, but they essentially mean the same thing.
Thanks and good to know!
I Love this basics, now I know how he was created, Tfp, bw2 e neo and armada are my fav shows❤❤❤❤,I Love when the dark energon was explained
I think Dark Energon should show up in more series going forward.
Nostradamus even predicted Unicron!
I actually heard of the Nostradamus "King of Angolmois" prophecy before. The word "terrifying" actually doesn't appear in the original text and is instead a misinterpretation of a similar word.
Do The Heralds of Unicron, Next!
Ah yes. Dark Energon. The horrific substance that gave Megatron the power to force upon doors at will. Diabolical.
Anglomois energy may have also been inspired by Getter Rays
another influence from the father of transforming robots
Finding it funny that his origins was one of the few times that the comics took the lead instead of the cartoons as it usually goes with the franchise.
Great Stuff, as always!
