    I don’t buy the argument that it’s purely chance that we aren’t converting. It’s not just Nunez that plays high tempo aggressive heart attack football, it’s the team. When you’re tired and the pressure is on -that’s a recipe for a lack of composure in front of goal

    The Klopp years have been amazing. Also the team should definitely have won more trophies considering what great squads we had. That's also going to be part of Juergen's legacy. 21 times 0:1 this season is pretty ridiculous. Miracle there even is still a tiny chance to win the league.

    I couldn't properly watch the Palace game, but from what I can see/hear from all the analysis is this - we used Bradley (super attacking) and Robbo in his previous role (super attacking). We had Szobo who usually plays as a 10, even RW last season, and Macca, who played more advanced in order to orchestrate. Salah has never tracked back properly and Diaz has been knackered from playing 90, 120, 90, 90 1-2 times a week. The result is that Endo is all alone, Ibou hasn't been good in the last few games, but the biggest problem, in my opinion, is that Virgil can not organise his defence. And he's the Skipper. He's always been vocal, but do we lack the presence of Hendo, Milner?

    This posessional game that Liverpool have moved to over the last few years NEEDS a technical forward like Bobby, that can hold the ball in tight spaces and isn't clumsy/loses the ball every single time they get it.
    That possession type of play only works when you have technical players, think Foden, Silva, de bruyne, etc, for city. Our forwards turn the ball over consistently and we've been lucky to get away with it a LOT this season.
    Even arsenal, Havertz, Saka and Martinelli are all much better at retaining the ball than our 3. It's impossible to play possession football with 3 scrappy players up top. Makes zero sense.
    When the press works for us, we win it high. Every player is high and out of position, and the forwards inevitably lose the ball because they're useless at retention. There's then a turnover and we're countered and cut open with ease because everyone is far too high. It happens time after time after time and Klopp has never fixed it. I love Klopp, but he's tactically not good enough to ever really beat city. He relies on emotion and I do love that, I love what thats brought us in his tenure, but it's left us second best too many times.
    The only forwards capable of retaining that ball are Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliott.
    Nunez can not play in the middle either, he isn't good enough in tight spaces. He's by FAR at his best on the left, where he has space.
    Gakpo needs to be that Bobby type player, where he can drop in and drive from midfield.
    Klopps teams play at their best when they have 2 rapid wingers and a Bobby Firmino making that final pass. Nunez and Diaz are incapable of that final pass. They arent technical enough. I've no idea why Klopp is persisting on playing 3 players who clearly can't hold the ball. They're all far too similar. All lose the ball too much, all clumsy, all very scrappy.
    Massive error on Klopps behalf imo. Gakpo is the answer and he's been left out all season.
    There HAS to be one of Gakpo or Elliott in that front 3 or it doesn't work.

    • @brianohalloran4059
      @brianohalloran4059 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Fully agree. I don't know why Klopp abandoned the Gakpo false 9 experiment this season. Last season he was adapting quite well to it imo. We need a Firmino type up front to knit the play together, play the wide forwards in with a killer ball and to drop back and create a 4vs3 overload in the centre of the park. We used to have a clear method of playing with the front 3. Why we went away from that template I'll never know. It wasn't broken so didn't need fixing.
      Now I don't know what we're doing, it's all carnage and chaos. And I really don't know what we're attempting with Nunez up front. We just keep pumping balls long over the top for him to chase and it rarely works. Nothing is sticking up front with him and his hold up/link up play is really lacking. He's much more Mane than Firmino and should be utilised as such. It's clear to me we need to get back to basics. Gakpo should be used as the central floating striker with Salah/Diaz on the right and Nunez/Jota on the left. How Klopp and Lijnders can't see this is troubling.

    • @stuart_edward
      @stuart_edward 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@brianohalloran4059 exactly! As you say, he was taking to it pretty well, the Bobby comparisons had already started and we were all excited by it. We went on a 9 game winning streak with Cody playing that position, then after pre season Klopp just started favouring Nunez and we got scrappy again.
      For some reason Klopp will not drop Diaz or Nunez and give Cody a run. Maybe because the other 2 kick up a fuss and Gakpo is pretty chill about it.
      You've worded it a bit better than I was trying to there. That's exactly it. Right now, we don't have that player that knits the midfield to the forwards. That guy between the lines that links midfield to attack, which I think is why we've started using the inverted right back thing, so we still have that midfield overload yet have 3 high forwards because none of them drop deep. In theory it sounds smart, but for me we were much better with the flat 3 in midfield and Gakpo dropping to the tip of a diamond type thing, with the 2 wide guys going in behind.
      Bit of a bible to read there, but I fully agree. I see Nunez as the Mane replacement. He's got very similar numbers and he's a similar type of explosive player. Chuck him on the left where he has space to run. He's completely incapable of doing the bobby role. Trouble is, Klopp or Pep won't drop Diaz out the team, and it's ruined our title challenge. Too much chaos as you say, not nearly enough precision.

    • @stuart_edward
      @stuart_edward 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@brianohalloran4059 As much as I've loved the Klopp tenure, he's fallen just short with some pretty obvious tactical decisions compared to Guardiola.
      He's relied too heavily on emotion. Whilst it's true that when the emotions are right, when the crowd is right, when the atmosphere is right, we're untouchable. The flip side is that it's impossible to keep that going every game. For both the players and fans.
      City on the other hand can have zero atmosphere, zero intensity, zero emotion and still pick a team apart technically and tactically. That way is miles more sustainable.

    • @brianohalloran4059
      @brianohalloran4059 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@stuart_edward Fully agree. I'm not sure why Klopp spent 67m on Nunez. You only spend that type of money on elite strikers, and he isn't one of them. He doesn't have the intelligence or composure to be an elite striker, he's all pace and power and not much else. He's more Djibril Cisse than Fernando Torres. I think he's a good striker but not a great one, and I think he'll have a career that reflects that, i.e. he'll play for second tier clubs like Newcastle, Lazio and Valencia and do well for them. But he'll never be more than a backup striker for a top team imo. He'll never be the main man in a top side the way Torres and Suarez were for us.
      And I could understand bringing him in as a Plan B option, but never for that outlay. For me we play him at left forward or occasionally at no.9 off the bench when we need something different. As it is stands right now he's little more than a battering ram who cost a hell of a lot and doesn't really fit what we're trying to do. It's been 2 years now.

    • @brianohalloran4059
      @brianohalloran4059 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@stuart_edward Yeah I agree with this too. Like you I love Klopp ball when it's in full effect. And I love the man and what he's done for us. But maybe after 9 years it's time to part ways. I think his methods are beginning to exhaust the players. Look what happened 2 years ago, look at the injuries we've had this year and look at us now. We look like once again we're running on empty. I think it's all too intense.
      I hope the next manager uses his brain more than his heart and like City we become ice cold killers. We need to reduce the tempo by a good 25% or so, halve the amount of pressing we do and look to become more of a controlling team. That should be the next step of our evolution imo. And with the increase in games we'll have to play next season, it's the smart thing to do.

Yes he shows determination and fire but ultimately he bombs down the wing crosses to usually no one and god forbid the ball ends up on his right foot he does the exact same thing every single time. Stops, puts it on his left foot and passes back to whomever is there and killing the play. He is a one footed player his whole life and wouldn’t even try to kick it with his right. So, all that being said our season is done…again. Klopp knows this and that’s a big reason why he’s leaving, he doesn’t want to invest another 5-6 years rebuilding again with a shite spending budget from FSG.

    This team has conceded goals in 22 league matches so far, more often than not conceding first. Our attackers have taken the responsibility to score 2+ goals for most matches regardless. Instead of focusing on that glaring red flag 'fans are scapegoatin attackers.. Also game management has been poor all season under this management as evident of us constantly going 1-0 down , so Klopp shares some of the blame for too. I also believe playing away from home more often from now on will be beneficial to the lads because the home support at Anfield this past month or so has been absolutely woeful!

    Still can win UEFA league but the players need to be more unpredictable with the ball by using feints, fake runs, fake shots, etc.
    Only need to score 3 goals to have a chance which can be done in 45 mins or less. I'm assuming they'll try high crosses again because Trent is playing but maybe aim for the feet instead of the head (Gomez' miracle cross against Bournemouth).
    Need the midfielders to increase their defensive awareness when chasing the ball and player. The moment you realize you're chasing the ball you need to quickly look over the shoulder because there is nothing else to do other than running. I don't wanna see Gasbagrini smile again on Thursday.

    You know, what I’ve realized watching now is that Nunez isn’t a bad finisher, he’s a bad decision maker. It’s almost like when we were bang on form earlier this year he was linking up really well and choosing all the right finishes/passes. I think the whole squad is suffering a bit right now from fatigue and the emotional weight of Klopp’s last season. He’s clearly an emotional guy, I think it’s unfair for people to call him stupid. I think once the squad sorts themselves out and get tighter all over that it’ll help him a lot.

    It's bizarre to me that people make this big thing out of Nunez's finishing when every other attacker is just as bad. Diaz is appalling. Salah's always been appalling, it's just he gets so many chances and takes enough that everybody lets it slide. And Jota, I don't know where this narrative has come from that he's like Owen or Fowler. Just like the others, he scuffs half his shots. Gakpo's the same.

    we need a new coach to fix this mess Klopp aint good enough anymore, we cant start games properly, we are terrible on the ball, players are clueless, everybody is just guessing, improvising, being spontaneous, this cant bring you constant success its inevitable things fall apart, we are not drilled properly, got no tactics, no ideas, no patterns of play, look at the goal Palace scored, that was some proper team play which we are lacking, also playing those who are completely out of form like Salah and Jones and then also keeping them on when they should be subbed off, keeps subbing off Nunez who we cant win a game without, Elliott deserves to play more, Gakpo is on the up, even Gravenberch could help he shouldnt just be sitting on the bench, Jones offers nothing post his injury and Salah fell off a cliff, Nunez and Jota should be playing together in the attack, always, they are the most likely to do something, the team must also provide more for Nunez he is doing too much on his own then cant focus on the simple stuff like Haaland who does nothing the whole game just waits for a shot, against Palace we created nothing for him he just randomly got to one dead ball in the box which he put on target but got unlucky with GK's thigh, Diaz straight up doesnt pass to him at all, the one time he did was the United game where it made no sense cause Diaz was the one central with a clear shot on goal, the team is playing badly overall and we need the new manager to fix it cause Klopp obviously cant

    All of the strikers referred to at Chelsea; Kezman, Torres, Lukaku, Werner etc didn't perform and so were sold. Was that incorrect of Chelsea to do that? Did any of those players (Lukaku's strong individual season for Inter aside) ever go on to prove Chelsea wrong in their decision. Sometimes clubs just have to own their decisions and trust their judgement. I've not seen anything from Nunez to suggest that if we did sell him, he would become a stellar striker anywhere else.

    I’ve said since day 1 of seeing Nunez, he looks like a player that’s never actually had a football training session… clearly he’s had 1000’s but that point is that he doesn’t learn at a rate a top professional needs to. There’s no point analysing him or expecting consistent form out of him because for me his problem is one of basic intelligence. The decision making isn’t just bad, it’s completely random because there’s no logic or intelligence behind him as a person let alone a footballer. You say in the video we should persist with him and hope it turns round, studies show generally people don’t noticeably increase their IQ through adulthood so what’s the point persisting? We bought a dud, get rid and give the new manager a real forward

    As far as I can tell xG is merely the objective percentage chance of scoring from that position on the pitch. That is it doesn’t take into account how many defenders there are, how fast the ball is coming to the attacker, how much pressure they are under and so on. Not sure how relevant this point is for this game given Liverpool did create a lot of good chances but would like Josh to clarify how xG is calculated and what are its limitations. Thanks

    The team is good but not the best. It is that simple. You don't win the league unless you are the best team. It's all very well over analysing tactics but we didn't lose to Palace due to tactics, we lost because we cannot keep a clean sheet and the team is already physically and mentally spent, due to the intensive style of Klopp. Palace deserved to win, as did Atalanta.
    Can't see us winning the title nor making a comeback against Atalanta because the team is spent. Klopp has flogged his horses to death, again.
    As for Nunez, he is a headless chicken footballer. Not very bright and he can't finish for toffee. That can't be changed.
