    I find myself watching videos that Lisa produces even when I have no real interest in purchasing the product. I think it has something to do with the tidal wave of knowledge and genuine comparisons that keeps me coming back. There are always points that she brings up that I completely agree with, yet, never thought about myself. Keep up the quality work! I certainly appreciate it. ps. not in the market for a Lenovo legion anytime soon lol

    • @flamecore
      @flamecore 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      n00bfish believe it or not, the customer base of these gaming laptops actually like their accents and the color red. Simple economics really, its whats in demand so manufacturers fulfill that.

    Thanks for your reviews, Lisa. Considered this too, but I just bought the Dell 7567 instead (UHD version) last Sunday. In our country, the 520 was about the same price as the Dell. The Lenovo was ahead with the 256gb ssd, but the Dell was better with a UHD non-reflecting and color accurate LCD and a much longer battery life. The 7567 was using only a 120gb ssd (plus the 1TB HDD). Since I will be using this for video/multimedia editing, color accuracy higher rez (the 520 was 1080p rez and not color accurate) , long battery life was more important (for SDE use). In our country, both cost about U$1,500 taxes included.
    Will continue watching your reviews. Yours and D2D have been very useful in making my decision process easy! :)

      But your fps goes down a shit ton when running on battery so unless I play something very non demanding I always plug in. And technically, it's power consumption is low compared to its competitors with only a few laptops better. All gaming laptops I've owned only last a couple hours on chrome.

    • @yourmom9200
      @yourmom9200 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I don't think trading screen quality for battery life is a smart move considering you're probably going to keep it plugged in most of the time, it's a gaming laptop for fuck's sake, if you plan on spending much time with it unplugged and doing random shit then you probably should get a regular laptop.

  • @ItsNotGiga

    Ik I’m a bit late however I have a version of this 2tb Hard drive 256 ssd 1050ti and a i7 7700k and after almost 3 years of owning the computer I can honestly say that the graphics card and ram is not and at all and can run most games at 60 FPS on high settings however you will definitely need to invest in a cooling bad and the cpu is constantly bottlenecking the gpu, recently I was getting while playing rainbow six siege on highest settings 80-90 FPS however my cpu ended up reaching 100 degrees Celsius and to prevent my cpu from burning out my frames would continuously drop to 20 FPS to cool down the cpu. This was with both fans running and and a cooling pad with 5 fans. I give this product a 3/5 a decent laptop option for gaming however now that I’m more experienced (my first pc) I definitely recommend building your own pc

    • @HandleIsNewAndBad
      @HandleIsNewAndBad 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      On the note of the cooling pad, using one with 5 fans shouldn't be much different from using one with 2 fans since there is only a small portion of the bottom that acts as air intake.

    Those lucky enough to grab this at Costco earlier this month got the i7-7700HQ with 4GB GTX 1050ti, 16GB of RAM, a 256GB NVMe SSD and a 2TB HDD for only $799.99, which was an absolute steal!
    I agree with most of what Lisa said, but I think reviewers are being too hard on the screen. The screen is bright, has great viewing angles, and the color is fine for gaming and everyday use. I don't have a problem with the track pad. It's not Macbook quality, but it works (maybe the drivers have improved since Lisa reviewed it).
    The plastic case is the only thing that feels "cheap" and it's a fingerprint magnet, but it is pretty sturdy, except in the area of the bottom vents. Battery life is okay for my use, but I can understand why others might want more. It's kind of amusing that battery life is even a concern nowadays, when you think about where gaming laptops were just a few years ago. A battery in a gaming laptop used to be little more than a UPS that would give you time to save and shutdown if the power failed. ;-)
    It comes with the usual bloatware, so I wiped the drive and did a clean install of Windows 10. The default configuration for the NVMe SSD is some funky Intel RAID nonsense, so if you want to do a clean install, go into the BIOS and set the drive to AHCI.

    I think the 720 comes with a 1060, and also comes in 15', so there might be more differences. Hopefully you can also review that one.
    Out of all the ones you mentioned, which one would you recommend? Because of your comment, I take it that you don't like the inspiron, so which one would you pick? the 520 or the acer vx15?

    Hey Lisa, first of all I love your videos an the work you put into it.
    I was actually looking for a gaming convertible that I could use for drawing... and there I see it : The Lenovo yoga 720 15"!
    I was wondering if you could review it. I've heard of trackpad and screen issues... Which worries me about it, considering I might buy it soon, it is the only convertible with a 1050 in it.
    Thank you for your work!

    I wonder why many people don't recommend to buy 4k gaming laptop. I know that there is no laptop that can run moden games in 4k, but can't l just lower the resolution to fhd? Or it would be too blurred?

    Considering i just got the Yoga 710, for gaming and everything, i can see how a better card would greatly boost my fps in games. I wonder how much better a 1050 is VS the 940MX?

    • @jruddigon
      @jruddigon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well if the 940MX is worse than the 950 then the 1050 kicks it

    • @Starfals
      @Starfals 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      So its a lot worse then ;p The 940mx does let me play games on low gfx, and its not a bad card. But.. since i also got a 1070 in my desktop, im not used to turning all the resolution to 1200 (down from 1080p)

    • @jruddigon
      @jruddigon 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Starfals well, I mean if you have a desktop... the 940MX is more suitable for Pro-apps, like Premier Pro, Lightroom, extreme Photoshopping, where it can give a little it of extra punch doing graphically heavy tasks.

    thx for the review Lisa, I am thinking of getting one of these for video editing (switching from Mac) and I lack a lot of knowledge when it comes to tech specs...so ... I have two concerns that I would be happy to get a comment on for the y520: 1) fan-noise - would the fans need to run during a video editing project shooting mostly in 1080 60fps and 2,7 60fps .. or would the y520 stay silent ? 2) Display connection: please correct me if I am wrong but the only port out for ext. monitor is the HDMI and I could nowhere find which HDMI it is? - 1.4? 2.0 ? what is it? - for that: what are the resolutions and fps that I can then transport to an ext. monitor? fullHD 60fps doable ? or even 4K ? ... thanks, help is appreciated ( it drives me nuts that its not easily possible to get all info on manufactures homepages)

      Unless you care about typing feel and the huge arrow keys that Lenovo has -- so much better than the keyboard the dell has.

    That battery life is a deal breaker for me. I saw one at Costco and nearly bought it, and seeing it's battery life is only 4 hours sucks. I thought it felt rugged and tough in my hands which is why I liked it so much. 6-7 hours is what I need.
