There's a reason tests are done blind - to prevent bias (from things like name recognition). When DiGiorno's was mentioned, James had the bias with TH-camr's eating it. That will influence your opinion on it. Next time, try giving them numbers (and a separate person knows what they are) and do a reveal at the end. This keeps it all about the taste!

When I was a kid growing up in Wisconsin, Tombstone was THE pizza. They were actually made in a little town in Northern Wisconsin called Medford. At some point Kraft bought them out and really cheapened the product. Today, the original family that made Tombstone is back and making pizza under the name Pep's. I'm not a frozen pizza connoisseur, but that's my go to because of the history, and it is is head and shoulders better than Tombstone today.

I don't like Digiorno, and neither do my kiddos. They like the advertising though. We go to the frozen pizza section, and they're all bout Digiorno, but once cooked up, they won't finish it. I'll give Good and Gather a try at some point, though. I like Amy's frozen foods a lot, but I haven't purchased them since I found out the employees have bad working conditions. You'd think with the cost of it, some of that would go toward the employees' wages and/or working conditions, but I guess not.
For me, frozen pizza is difficult. I rarely buy it. We have a great pizza place nearby that costs three times as much as most of these frozen pizzas, but you get way more and much better quality. I can usually place an order and go pick it up in less time than it would take my oven to pre-heat. I also know that I'm supporting local with a purchase there.

In my opinion, Totino's pepperoni is the way to go. You aren't going to get a frozen pizza that tastes like an authentic pizza, and Tontino's doesn't really try. It's more pizza-adjacent, like a Pizza Pocket. It's sort of like how a Big Mac doesn't taste like a real hamburger and Chef Boyardee doesn't taste like real spaghetti. They're all lower quality and varying degrees of junky, but in an actually appealing way, if you're in the mood for them. A higher quality frozen pizza runs the risk of being uncanny valley, taste-wise.

Sauce is great, lots of meat and the crust is in a league by itself. Cooking time is better if you bake it for 35 min at 350F on a middle rack (no pan). Then I usually broil it for 2-3 min to finish it off. Add a little extra shredded mozza on top to really make the most of it.

Many of those brands have changed so much over the past decades opting for cheaper and cheaper ingredients. Most crusts are just pure processed flour crud, so if you get that pizza it's most likely with really cheap ingredients certainly poorly processed cheese and sauce are two main faults. You certainly get what you pay for. I enjoy Tortinos or really floury pizza because I had a lot of that floury w/sour sauce type pizza as a child in school, but I'll go for a DiGiorno, Screaming, or something that costs nearly as much as a 3 star restaurant gourmet pizza and toss a lot of extra olives and mushrooms on it, even ham and pineapple and some primo mozz/provo. I can no longer buy pizzas like Red Baron and Tombstone because they taste nothing like they use to. I can't even buy a caesers, Hutt or dominos anymore because I can go to a gourmet restaurant and just get really good gourmet pizza for the same price in 15 to 20 mins. If it's a store brand made fresh, those are usually better than frozen and I'll purchase those.

I've been a DiGiorno customer for 20+ years. I like that yeasty crust that rises up nicely. Plus the other ingredients are pretty good. The best frozen pizza I ever had was when a friend's wife bought a DiGiorno cheese and she added all her own toppings to it. It was really good with fresh onions, olives, peppers and pepperoni. Makes a really good base for your own ideas.

If you've ever tried Freschetta, you'd ditch the Digiorno. Trust.

I was teenager when DiGiorno came out, and I remember it well. Fridays was pizza night at my house and we were strictly Papa John's until Digiorno came out. Been hooked ever since!

I have been enjoying these taste test videos. My vote is to try different cheeses next.

It would have to be a specific type of cheese 🧀 wouldn't it? Otherwise, they'd have close to 2K cheeses to choose from.😲
