Psychology is a great field and the more people can talk about it the more people can study it and understand it (because honestly academic psychology is full of lots of bad ideas and wrong concepts and blind trust in some untested concepts that have become the establishment).

@@anon-il9qf If you've ever studied psychology, even at a basic level, you understand it's extremely immoral to utilize untested theories. Even in academic psychology, you are told about some theories and ideas that don't work. You are not told that they do work, you are told that they're part of the history of psychology. You know theories like that don't work because it's very possible to look at used methods and study the effectiveness of treatment. Also psychology is chock full of scientific studies like any other science. This is because of the fact that therapy is a form of healthcare. It is good to advocate for it to advance, but to claim that it's the wild west in therapy is a crazy statement.

I think it's because Dr K is, either consciously or unconsciously is being super like imposing and off-putting with his voice and so on.
This is one of the reasons I don't like Dr K, I think half of what he says is smart and good, and the other half is like either blind research and study regurgitation, and it's him having an ego trip. I think Dr K gets off and likes to feel important, and to tell his patients how they feel, vs investigating with the patient how they feel and getting the patient to realize why they feel how they feel, etc.
Like all of Dr K's mannerisms are off if he wants to come off as a welcoming empathetic neutral and non judgemental person, he comes off as extremely judgemental, dismissive, short, his remarks are very short and pointed like slurs, and it seems like he wants to gain power in the conversation and the relationship with the patient, basically strip down the patient, humiliate the patient, then tell the patient how they really feel.
I actually worry, that Dr K might unironically have a complex where he likes to intentionally get patients or people around him even to humiliate themselves in front of him, and then after he does enough humiliating, or humiliation-bait where they expose themselves to him, then he can come in and try to give them some kind of feedback, but mostly feed off of the power dynamic and power imbalance in the conversation, where he is the sole judge in the conversation, the sole authority, and is actively like aggressively getting a person to weaken themselves, so he can tell them, force them even, to accept his conclusions.

But if you want a "what could I do to fix this or to become bette, she might get too caught up in being nice, she might never get to a point or actually tell you. I wouldn't recommend getting proactive feedback from someone with this personality but instead get close to someone like this when you need reassurance or a listen

@@Kaybye555 Well, your comment made me realize why nobody wants to be close to me. I mean it's more like the other way around actually. It is actually me who - by my behavior - kind of not let people close to me, unknowingly. I've known myself to be a people pleaser for a long time, but never thought that it affects my life this deep. People usually say that I'm such a great person to talk to... but yeah that's just it, it feels good to talk but there's nothing below that. Deep inside they probably feel that it's kind of fake.
A good takeaway for me personally is that I should be more honest and open about my thoughts. I think I can manage doing that slowly. Just be less afraid about speaking my mind. How could people get to know ME otherwise? And how can I expect anyone wanting to get to know me if I'm shallow on the surface?
Thank you so much for your comment, it made things click into place in my brain.

Emily, I think the main thing you need to realize is that most of your viewers simply like you as a person and that is the main reason why they watch you. You being entertaining, high energy, a people pleaser, making all the best jokes…these are all just bonuses after the fact.
All you have to do is go on stream and be yourself. Relax, have fun, do the things you want to do…and everyone will support you. No one wants you to burn out or feel overwhelmed. Most people care way more about your well being then about how good your content is.

Emily, I relate to you in a lot of ways. I also hate the idea of disappointing others and feeling like a failure. I tend to not give my all so that I don't have to be judged for doing things wrong. After all, you can't fail if you didn't even put in effort in the first place. I was very much a people pleaser growing up and I still carry some of that with me in my 30s. I am also from Nebraska as well, so we share way more in common than I would've thought when I first discovered you. I think you are going to be okay just like Dr. K told you at the end. You are such a genuinely kind person, and you should be proud of your accomplishments. I hope you get to the point where you are able to be completely comfortable with all sides of you, particularly "terrified Emily". Accepting all aspects of who you are and allowing it to come naturally is an important part of dealing with all the things that life throws at you. Thank you for the conversation with Dr. K and showing your fans that it's okay to not always measure up to people's expectations. I believe in you and I have complete confidence that when you get to my age, 32, you'll have so much more to offer the world than you thought you did :)

I love that you gave him feedback at the end to summarize main talking points so that you can allow the discussion to percolate in your mind and refer back to it - that is a symptom of a very “self improvement” focused mindset that serves you extremely well & it will be beneficial for him to start doing that following his interviews more if he actually implements your feedback. I would want the same!!
You did a wonderful job & I’m sure it was very helpful and engaging for your followers to see more of the “real” you so to speak. To be human is to be a mix of both positive and negative emotions and experiences, so for your audience to fully relate to you they have to get the full experience. I see your desire to make others happy by portraying positivity as much as you can as a very noble thing to do, but it has pros and cons in the way it impacts yourself and the way it prevents your viewers from fully relating and connecting to you (which isn’t inherently bad btw)
I can articulate this as I’ve experienced it myself to a lesser extent in my job and also my personal life- as someone who was taught to be independent and avoid “burdening” others with my emotions or problems, my intent was to be a good friend/coworker etc but the result was people who needed MY help felt the relationship was one sided and it was hard to fully get to know the “real” me, so at times I sensed they felt I was… not fake exactly but they perceived the relationship as unbalanced because I didn’t share or “need” others the way they needed me and I always would put a smile on or play group therapist in my relationships with them. It’s not my fault for being programmed that way by my upbringing/society, but I have been taking steps to grow and improve my relationships. After 26 years on this planet just a few months ago I asked my sister for a small favor, and it brought her SUCH joy to do something for me. I could tell it was appreciated by her moreso than it was by me!!
This may not all apply to your situation but I just want to say that if you keep working at emotional self awareness and become more open and accepting to vulnerability, you’ll go far; in life, but also in content creation. Just look at your peers’ most popular videos and you’ll see what I mean 😊 People want to engage with you at your happy and bubbly and they will at your sad and struggling too.
SIDEBAR: if you read all this, ask Miz if he ever saw my DM from November 17, 2021 asking to put together an all female SM64 tourney. I name dropped you & I like to pretend that’s how you got discovered (this isn’t parasocial btw I swear, I was clout chasing) 😂😂😂 I’m so glad you took off and it has been a joy to see you blossom. I was watching other small sm64 streamers to see how I could improve & you were one I connected with moreso than most. I wasn’t shocked to see you finally blow up and gain a sizeable following, although I never pictured you’d be this huge!! Congrats, it was so well deserved.
    Good luck, Emily!!!

What I admire about Dr. K in comparison to other psychiatrists I have met is that you can really tell that he feels the emotions that are presented to him and also those he gives back. It shows that psychology is more than just a science you can learn and perform and I think that aspect is lacking in a lot of mental health experts.

Thank you so much Emily for showing this side of yourself and opening up. Vulnerability is a constant struggle for me. This entire discussion was so relatable and reminds me of myself in therapy especially in the initial days. You're doing great, you should definitely be genuinely happy with yourself. I also struggle with celebrating wins. The vulnerability and self reflection is SO important to normalize in social media and in content creation. Young people and people in general need to see that they are normal for feeling sad or anxious. Self reflection is healthy and so important.

I love how Dr K shows so much compassion and genuine care for the people he speaks to. His therapy sessions with streamers are so good to see a side of the streamer (actor) you never usually see. Twitch is full of entertainers and actors, It's nice to see their genuine side.
One thing I noticed is Twitch chat really struggle with empathy, Instead of just saying nothing in these meaningful scenarios they will spam emotes (usually Sadge or something crying related) not realising that someone feeling genuine emotion (Emily) Isn't going to want to see a little green frog crying, knowing It's coming from real humans, fly down her screen in such a meaningful, emotional time.
It's not wrong that Twitch chat does this, It could just be that they need to feel a sense of importance or maybe a connection they feel with Emily (as If she is reading it like a message from her friend) I just find it somewhat robot like, could just be autism, very interesting nevertheless.

    • @Mystic_Kitty
      @Mystic_Kitty 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

"Could be autism"??? LMAO. No but I see what you mean I literally don't even read chat when someone gets emotional on these sessions. It's better to just say something like "I feel you" or something like that then to spam emotes lol.

@@Mystic_Kitty Yeah, I guess I'm just being an armchair psychologist (Dr K probably wouldn't approve of that) but autism just came to mind. I know autistic people can lack empathy as well as showing emotion naturally, so that was just the first thing that came to mind; could be a plethora of reasons.
It just feels really weird to be honest.

If you don't feel like he's working in a way that benefits you the most, definitely try changing. Some people would love to be able to talk themselves through, and sessions like that may help the therapist understand how your work yourself through your thought process, but if you're not seeing a benefit to it, definitely try changing. Guided therapy is definitely needed in some cases.

Its nice to see the actual person behind the character. It didnt take long to notice that Emily puts on a face for her community and maybe for most people around her but I hope she allows herself to be authentic and not feel like she needs to be this "happy" person all the time

To be honest, as an Asian born in America, the "Asian way," almost like a cultural thing, of raising kids is bad, in my opinion. Though parents do want the best for their kids, however, most asian parents never listen, never stand up for you, most of the time never side with you when you're in the right, never accept that they are wrong, their ego always get in their head, not humble when they are wrong, keeps you in a cage, makes you afraid of disappointment and failures, and much more of other psychological trauma.
I still love my parents of course but it's hard to give them the respect I want to give them. I want them to see they are fucking up with our psychology and mental health.

Emily seems like an amazing human being, but she was conditioned to be that way. She really is hard on herself, but she keeps so much bottled up. I really feel bad for her, but at the same time if she is truly happy than I hope she doesnt change. I think that this conversation will help her look inside a little bit even if shes not ready to be sad yet, she will acknowledge that and learn from it. She's an incredibly smart girl and it will make sense eventually.

Emily's mom unintentionally taught her that love is conditional. We aren't here for your looks or content Emily, we're here because we love you and think you're funny and enjoyable as shit doing anything as a fellow earthling. Your value isn't tied to those things

I mean I don't know about that, but probably her mom was a bit forceful in telling her what to do vs letting emily choose what to do, which is why she (emily) harbors resentment.

This has been quite eye-opening for me. I say that as a Emily "Hater". Her cartoon-like personality was what put me off from watching her, but I can't really avoid her either since she pops up in nearly all other streamers whos content I do watch and enjoy. Then somehow I got this video recommendation and decided to click and see "what's she all about", "why do I find her so annoying". Holy shit, I feel so bad now. I didn't realise she was just being her genuine "happy" self even if it's tied to a lot of trauma. After watching this, I find her quite relateable it nearly made me cry along with her.
I've decided to give her another try, I will start watching her content more going into the future, hopefully with a more open-minded approach. I will be rooting for your success Emily, even if I do stop watching again at some point.
Curiously, I noticed this is the same reason why I can't watch Emiru's content, but when she's being herself in someone else's video I enjoy her a lot more.

Honestly can't imagine how much Emily has held back since blowing up on Twitch and joining OTK. Forcing the positive crazy persona, even tho its probably pretty close to how she really is, not breaking that persona ever is probably a major cause of stress deep down that gets shoved back. I was not expecting such a real talk here but its good stuff. Get it out Emily!

This was a great watch, as a kid who had trauma from my childhood i died laughing at the "you’re telling this like it’s supposed to be funny" because i had a coworker very recently tell me the exact same thing when telling him a story about what my dad did when i was a child.
I Laughed, i cried and most importantly watching this also helped me realize a lot about myself (although ive been blaming my parents for years which is the polar opposite of Emily but basically same consequences)
