I used to do the same thing to my MIL. She thought it bugged me but I just let her clean.
@Al2023- Its no so much jealously, its the way Marie treats Debra that is more the issue, how she talks down to her every chance she gets, but its Marie can't get over the fact Debra married Ray, and according to Frank she still can't deal with it.
I used to be Debra now I’m Carrie. My MIL comes and cleans the appliances and the shower and whatever else she thinks I’m not doing well. I embrace it now because it saves me a job
Yes, another reason why Carrie is smarter/hotter than Debra.
I love how they showed the contrast between how Debra and Carrie handle Marie's condescension. Debra gets angry whereas Carrie just gets even.
One works so having someone else clean the house is a plus. Debra is a stay at home mother, so marie remarks hurts because that is Delta's job

That's why I hated Everybody Loves Raymond. My mother wouldn't say any of her nonsense to my wife. Ray is spineless and is annoying.

Carrie's brighter than Debra. She had Marie pegged from the get go and knew the only way to deal with her is let her put herself into a corner. She's like "you wanna be the cleaning expert, then go ahead and show your expertise while I relax". 😂

I feel like they'd start out as friends and get along real well. Then they'd start getting more comfortable with each other and start showing their true colors. They'd get in a fight and they'd end up being mortal enemies.

My favorite thing about this is that fact that everybody loves Raymond, the nanny and kings and queens are all in same universe.
Seinfeld, Mad About You and Friends are technically are in the same universe too. Many crossovers story. Kramer's apartment is actually Paul Buchman's old apartment. Ursula Buffay (Phoebe's twin sister) is in Mad About You.

I loved how Everybody Loves Raymond and The King Of Queens collabed a few times in the past. Both sitcom's were so good and still are. I'm glad most good sitcoms collabed a few times in the past. In my honest opinion carrie figured out debra better than Debra ever did but I still love these characters.

I really like the character Marie, Ray's mom. I wish I had a mother like her. My mother was an abusive monster so I can't understand why people dislike Ray's mom and his dad.
Because Marie was a narcissistic, manipulative, overbearing mother who was WAY TOO emotionally needy towards Robert and Raymond, treating them like babies even though they were grown men. She was also very emotionally abusive towards Debra, critizing and judging her, and trying to sabotage Raymond and Debra's marriage so that they can get divorced so that Marie can have Ray all to herself again.
Frank was also emotionally and verbally abusive
As a child of Marie you’d be mostly fine. But she’s a monster of a different kind to other people outside of her family. She’s passive aggressive and makes everything about her. In real life her kids would either be divorced or cut her off.

On Everybody Loves Raymond, there was an episode where Kevin James’ character was named Kevin. I’m trying to remember if they, later, decided to call him Doug or not. Either way, that’s probably why Carrie wasn’t mentioned on ELR.

The show is so sexist 🙄. Carrie is busting her ass cleaning the house while Doug plays with his friends.
Doug also has the more physically demanding job as a package delivery driver vs Carrie who works as a secretary in a law firm.

@@dietrichjoanne I was trying to be logical. Please don't downplay the work of people who work at UPS/Fedex/USPS, etc. I dont see people in law firms dying from heat strokes in the summer.
Here's a different scenario. What if a woman worked in a coal mine, and a man worked as an accountant? Wouldn't it be obvious that the female coal miner has a more physically demanding job? Wouldn't it be nice if the husband accountant did the house chores every once in a while?
I also understand that disregarding obvious gender roles, Carrie plays the "straight man" (straight woman in her case), and Doug plays the comedic relief in the show. So from the show's perspective, it makes sense to have Carrie be the responsible adult in the marriage, while Doug is the irresponsible, fun-loving half.
It may be sexist, but it makes sense from a character perspective. Do you get it now?
@spiidey1 , a UPS driver is different than a coal miner. Doug is extremely lazy. He does nothing around the house. Realistically, a woman like Carrie would never marry a man like Doug.
Or, maybe she likes a really clean house.
