How do you do the rocket jump?
Hey guys! Hope you enjoyed this run, was fun to showcase it for SGDQ. Couple of things to clear up:
1.) it says i have a commentator but I clearly do not, the person I wanted to invite for it actually goes by lekolega, hes the WR holder (check him out)
2.) The Remark about the Doom movie was not to be taken seriously, it was a joke. I am very aware that doom 3 came first (i cant believe i actuually am having to say that)
3.) The bridge jump on delta 3 is hard, but I gave some misinformation on the set up, you don't need to do a circle jump, my set up just happens to be similar to a circle jump set up

Ripchip did a good job commentating and explaining his strats. It's not easy to make your commentary interesting when you're alone and you're also the one running the game. He came across as a humble and well-spoken runner who knows his stuff.
I cant believe he hit every trick first try. What a champion.

i was playing doom 3 in VR, and I was going down stairs and got hit by a pinky and it made me instantly throw up and get all motion sick. never played it since lol
12:14 is a pick-up moment that prompted a spit-take from me! Holy moly! I can't believe that's actually possible in-game. Freakin' fantastic effort Rip!
I saw it earlier in another speedrun and being surprised it was possible. While I can’t speedrun the game, I was able to trigger the glitch myself after a few tries and get an early BFG. lol

That was the best speed run of a visual novel I've seen. Real talk though, that was a beautiful run of one of my personal favourites. Doom 3 gets a lot of justified criticisms but I just love this game so much. Thanks for the run ripchip and take care!
One of my all time favorite games, I got this for my 14th birthday! Special edition, coop was so fun and man did this game scare the hell outta me
Doom 3 is actually my favorite. So many memories. I have that special edition with the metal case for original Xbox. It came with doom 1 and 2 also

doom 3 E-3 Alpha was the most mind blowing thing I have ever downloaded in my life. I got that years before doom 3 came out. Was so much fun showing people it randomly and be like "I have no idea where it came from! my pc's possessed " lol
Man I was saying to myself, what E3 Alpha does he talking about? Hes exaggerating for sure. And then I searched for it and DAMN!!! Thats fucking intense!! From this demo are all those pictures in previews back then long time before the game was done. Those german-like soldiers with glowing eyse and so on. I must admit that this short piece of early state of game is really good and it feels even better and more intense than original game (yet its not finished and it still looks like alpha version). I cant imagine myself seeing this back then as a kid, I would shit to my pants straight away :D How is that you had access to this E3 Alpha?

I love this game. Played on my Pentium 4 at the time and i was so scared about how dark is this game. i had a great time playing Doom 3 and Fear back then.
Doom 3 is the scariest game I played, maybe because I was kid. But even now if you play Doom 3 alone in the darkness it gives you shiver.

i love doom 3, never felt it to be a terrible game, just not the same as the first 2 dooms and at the time doom 3 was made i doubt a similar old school style wouldnt have worked. I tried speedrunning the game this year and i got 3 hours on the hardest difficulty. Never thought it could be ran so fast tho, cool video!

fantastic run and great commentary on an awesome game, congrats! This game was ahead of its time IMO and is still very playable today, the two newer doom games(though great) are missing something compared to this one.

Fantastic speedrun! Hard to believe Doom 3 has never been showcased at GDQ before now. This was a lot of fun to watch, with no use of out-of-bounds, like many other speedruns.
Great run, don't worry about being nerves. It's always hard to perform and talk at the same time. Regardless of what you're doing.

Since Doom3 is not a very good Doom game and seems to be a visual novel, I suggest that we henceforth call this game Fate/Stay Hell.
I really like Doom 3 the first and only Doom horror game. I like all the Doom games tho lol but there all great in their own way.

Single best Doom visual novel speedrun I've ever seen.
It's never occurred to me to run from that very first Pinky before. I'm surprised Doom 3 never made use of pursuit to scare the player, like having an monster constantly chase you throughout a level
Even though I really didn't like Doom 3, watching you run it was great. You managed to add back the all the excitement and speed that they forgot to include when developing this game!

He keeps saying that Doom 3 is based on the movie Doom, which is false. Rather, it's the opposite. Doom 3 came out 2004, and the movie Doom came out 2005.
Exactly. And it is the movie that is somewhat based on doom3. Not the plot (and games plot is actually waay better strsnge to say it about doom game),, mind you, but some of the visual style.

doom eternal: "the only one they fear is you"
Not sure if it was a slip, but the Doom movie was based on Doom 3 and not vice versa.

In a run like this i would like to know more about the input at the beginning- like is this just m/k and are there weird keybinds? Anyway- really enjoyed it!
I probably couldve explained the movement a little more detailed, so heres some insight:
-I use Mouse + Keyboard as it is the most optimal for movement and combat
-strafe jumps done like quake strafe jumps, using diagonal jumps and turns
-In addition I have to make sure im not holding onto the run key (bound to shift) to reduce stamina use
-as far as keybinds I only have a few key weapons mapped to keys that are more accessible.
-the only other minor nuance is getting used to crouch jumping in certain areas that you can potentially bonk on
