    Good idea, those quick connectors are a bane to humanity. They can last longer coated with hot glue but only in desperation. You know how bad they are when you can't use them under the dash.

    • @sixtyfiveford
      @sixtyfiveford  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +57WillysCJ Never thought about hot glue. About the only thing I've used to make them hold up is to coat them in dielectric grease.

      @sixtyfiveford  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Wes Shaw Yeah, those little buggers have been the culprit for failed wiring more than a handful of times. They're easy though and quick so people love them. If you coat them in dielectric grease they will last 10 fold but still no where as good as a solder joint.

    Magic power box ..hard wire your dash cam to your car without the use of a Cig lighter ..The perk is it is on a double timer ..If my volts run under 11.6v (still can start the car/truck) Or after 3, 6, 8, 10, 12, 24, hrs it shuts off depending on the setting you set it at on the box
    My phone i charge at home before getting in the car aswell i have a portable battery that also charges the phone which gives me power for 1.5 days of full use

    It was easy to change things in these old cars. But I'm driving a 2011 Chevy Spark nowadays and everything's custom fixed in the dash. I can't even get an off the shelf radio to fit in there 😢 Think I'm just going to take a lighter plug and use a thick wire to run to a couple of these double sockets.

    Talk more about why you run a dash cam and what model you run. I have been thinking about buying one as I drive a lot for work. Cool video. My old camper has a cigarette outlet in the camper and on the outside. They are very handy. The pervious owner did some great mods.

    Now if i had soldered that negative to the case of the socket, two things would of cause happen, a cold joint because the case isnt too easy to get really hot, and when i tryed to put the socket back in the dash hole the dam solder blob would get in the way some how.
    ive had annoying stuff like that happen lol :-D
    Isnt heatshrink wonderfull, i have the plain black stuff and it makes every bodged solder joint look smashing LOL, no no i can solder correctly :-D

      +Superiorpowerwash You can just run it straight from the battery or out of the fuse block from a fuse that retains power all the time(like the headlights).

    • @sixtyfiveford
      @sixtyfiveford  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      k6000 dash cam. They are $15-20 and even through claim 1080 are really only 720p. At the price it can't be beat. Being a cheap item there is going to be poor quality control so buy a model that is Prime so Amazon will take it back effortlessly if there is a problem. I bought my first one for Christmas last year for $22 and loved it so much I bought a second a few weeks later for $18(exact same). I have almost a year on both and have been immensely pleased. I wanted something cheap hanging for people to see and not a $200-300 piece of tempting car jewelry for thieves. Being cheap I even spray painted the entire thing flat black so it is less noticeable. I am going to buy 2 more and mount them rear facing. I haven't had any major issues and both are used on a daily basis.

    • @DAS-Videos
      @DAS-Videos 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +sixtyfiveford Thanks! I think I am going to get one. Can you make out license plate numbers on the video?

    • @sixtyfiveford
      @sixtyfiveford  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes and no. This was one of my concerns. If someone is close to you(4 car lengths+-) yes but definitely not if they're a dozen car lengths away. I figured the only person that I would need a license plate from would be a hit an run. They probably wouldn't hit me from the front where the camera is aiming but from the side or rear(no camera). And even if I did catch the plate, it is going to be more than likely a stolen vehicle so there's no recourse with the owner of the license plate/car. Even with the sharpest 1080p camera you have a lot of downfalls like the glare off the windshield that distort the image. If you have a cell phone camera you can get a good idea of the video/image quality by taking a picture out the windshield of your car. Adjust your camera to a lower resolution and compare:720p is going to be approx 1 mega pixels and 1080 roughly 2 mega pixels in the photo world.

I am no electrician, so this might sound like a silly question - I'm currently using cigarette lighter splitter in my single outlet, but I get this annoying buzzing sound whenever I use both bluetooth adapter for music and LED's at the same time. Also not an electrician but what you need is a ground loop isolator. Its a 1:1 transformer that isolate the ground noise from going into our bluetooth receivers. Its just a small box that plus in before the AUX socket. Give it a try if you still have the car!

    OK so I’m interested in running a auxiliary cigarette lighter to the rear part of my vehicle. What are some things I should look out for? My vehicle is also cursed with the one cigarette lighter also. Which makes it a pain in the butt when road trips are happening.

      Just buy an lighter with shape easiest for you to add on place u want, get 2 wires, connect them behind lighter u have already and find best way for wires to rear part of car, thats all..

    Great vid. Could you show how to keep the 12v cigarette lighter always on please?

      If You want it to always have power. You can just run a wire directly to the positive terminal on the battery. I would fuse it with an inline fuse.

    We actually put one of those in my dad's 1962 Willy's CJ3B jeep. Lol. It works very well. It is used for the beaten on the roof so everyone can see us when we snow plow at night in the winter. So glad we have it. Thanks for making the video. Really appreciate it 65FORD.

      sixtyfiveford No problem. It definitely is a fun vehicle. Sure is a head turner. Loads of low end torque too.

    Nice. You did the job. However I hope your wife or significant other, is not like mine as with those accessories pointing towards the passenger side, my wife will kick the hell out of them in no time. I liked your idea of placing the sockets pointing down, in mid, lower console. That would be least invasive and mostly invisible. I'm going to definitely follow your hint on shrink tapes and solder.

      You a little scared of electrical.... Everything is still fused and done exactly like an oem would do with multiple 12v outlets.

    Do a video where you hardwire all equipment to turn on when you turn the ignition on.

    • @sixtyfiveford
      @sixtyfiveford  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The cigarette lighter sockets all turn on with the ignition so whatever is plugged into them also turns on. This is the norm with most sockets in cars.

    • @Flipping_Assets
      @Flipping_Assets 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sixtyfiveford I mean hardwire without all the sockets. Straight hot ignition wire to each component.

    i had room on the back of my center console by the rear seats ,so i installed a socket but ran the positive through a fuse then to the front socket but with the negative i connected it to a bolt under my center console because there was continuity between it and the negative on the battery. it seems to go ok, would it hurt to have the negative on the bolt?
