      Crushing Blow = Enemy Current HP % Dmg
      Deadly Strike = Chance to deal bonus damage like a crit

      Piercing Attack = Ranged Attacks piece through monsters hitting multiples

      CB = works only with meele/ranged weapon attack, takes away 1/4 current HP, 1/8 on uniques and bosses (meele), ranged is 1/8 and 1/16, it's affected by positive physical res but not by negative one, doesn't scale with more /players so it goes weaker UNLIKE TOTALLY OP STATIC FIELD
      DS = same as CB, works only with melee/ranged weapon attack, doubles the damage, doubles only physical part of damage (works with skills that convert physical damage like Berserk or Fire Arrow), if you also have critical strike it doesn't stack, it's checked separately, if one check is succesful, the other is ignored, you can't get 4x damage with it

    I consider Cold Mastery a bug fix as opposed to a glitch. I don't know why it should be the exception. Consistency of the rules is important. The tooltip on Cold Mastery never said "Cannot break immunities". It reads exactly like other auras and curses do. By not breaking immunities, the cold mastery skill is strictly worse than fire or lightning mastery.

    • @andreidikranvasilescu6182
      @andreidikranvasilescu6182 3 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      Right, sounds like maybe that's why cold resistances are so much higher, anticipating cold mastery?

    • @sixmillionsilencedaccounts3517
      @sixmillionsilencedaccounts3517 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Masteries have nothing to do with immunities. CM was just an alternative way to compensate for lower damage of cold skills by giving you an ability to reduce enemy res to -100 => doing double damage. While fire and light mastery just give +%damage.

    • @askmedov
      @askmedov 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I hope they decrease some monsters’ cold overres so that cold mastery can break immunities through all hell acts, except for cold enchants

    • @Katie-hb8iq
      @Katie-hb8iq 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      @@sixmillionsilencedaccounts3517 Then conviction has nothing to do with immunities either. There is no tooltip that says "breaks immunities" or "does not break immunities". The rules need to be consistent.
      The reason I said cold mastery is strictly worse if it doesn't break immunities is lightning and fire mastery will deal a lot more than just double damage. I mean, you don't even need +skills gear and lightning mastery adds 278% and fire mastery adds 163%. Clearly if cold does not break immunities, you're getting a bad deal for your skill points, especially since +skills on gear widens the gulf between cold and the others even further. Capping this at double damage is nothing.

    • @AdhinJT
      @AdhinJT 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Ehh I think that's a tricky one. If you allow the mastery to break immunities then it doesn't put it on par with Fire/Lightning Masteries, it makes it the only passive that can break immunities. Not only will it break those immunities but with enough +skill it'll do so better then Lower Resist + Conviction combo. Which requires 25 in Conviction (so a player maxing it with some +skills or half investment with a lot of +Skills) and a hilariously 60 in Lower Resist to hit that 'max of 70'. Not even sure why they count that, at 40 it's 67 which I mean... close enough.
      Anyway my only point is Fire Mastery and Lightning Mastery don't let you break immunities, and if you could with cold it would literally just be the winning side. If they where to do anything In my opinion it would be to just unfuck cold immunities on monsters. There's literally no reason to have one set to 140, and 150 and 210 because anything past 140 is basically impossible to break anyway.
      Shit if it was up to me the whole 'all monster have immunities' would be out immediately. It's feels like a design choice around being able to diversify your damage output and 1.10 synergy directly contradict that entire idea. Which is ultimately what I would of done back in the day with my current druid. Just get into some random game and kill all the non-fire immune stuff while others handle the fire immune (so almost nothing when trying to get Radament). To bad MP on consoles is fucked atm.

    The Cold Mastery "Bug" was introduced in 1.07 and before then it worked like it does now. It is totally fair to have this get fixed as it doesn't break anything at all since the game isn't very well balanced to begin with among the classes. If many people find this unbalanced, then complain about Hammerdins having too many strengths by being "weak" to only 3 or so monsters in the entire game.
    I think the problem here is a lot of people are so used to something that it became the norm and when it was fixed to resolve an issue they raise a storm because it wasn't "normal" to them. Enjoy the fix and how it allows more fun by being able to pew pew more in this game.

    Based on the fact that hell cold resistances are higher than fire and lightning, it makes so much more sense to have cold mastery affect those immunities. It's like they intended to balance the higher cold resists around the cold mastery as a reward for players speccing deep into the cold tree. I think it was bugged before, and now it's not. It creates a choice between dual spec or just going deeper into cold.

    Perhaps there are so many monsters with very high cold resist because Cold Mastery is SUPPOSED to help towards breaking the immunity. Maybe it just wasn't working as intended before and they fixed it so Cold Sorceresses (the only real cold class) aren't as gimped. That would explain why Cold Mastery lowers resist rather than increasing damage like Lightning Mastery and Fire Mastery.

    It almost looks like cold resistances in Hell were balanced around Cold Mastery working to break resistences, when you compare it to the Fire and Light immune monsters.

    • @Metadaxe
      @Metadaxe 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it was balanced around Cold Mastery being able to dumpstertruck an enemy's resistance once its immunity is broken. Ordinarily if you break an immune monster, it still has like 90%+ resistance to the element it was immune to. Lowering that to a point where the monster takes a reasonable amount of damage requires gear like Griffon's, Facets, Crescent Moon, etc. which A) limits how much you can stack, and B) comes with all the caveats of gearing (opportunity cost of equipment slots, scarcity, etc.). Meanwhile if you break a monster's cold immunity, and it still has 99% cold resistance, CM will just immediately drop that into negative numbers.

    • @skychaos87
      @skychaos87 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope, cold sorc is already the most powerful sorc simply because it can reduce monsters resistance to negative, dealing way more damage than light or fire sorc. Being able to break immunities simply means cold sorc can now kill many cold immune monsters while light and fire sorc continues to struggle with their respective immunes.

    • @Metadaxe
      @Metadaxe 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@djryat4591 The way it works (or at least worked in D2 legacy), is that it does nothing if a monster is immune, but works at full power once a monster's immunity is broken (say, by conviction or lower resist). So if Cold Mastery says -200% and the monster is 100% resistant, CM has no effect. If the monster is 99% resistant, then it loses 200% resistance, resulting in it having -100% total cold res.
      The following is all speculation. AFAIK, nobody has figured out yet the exact way that CM or other resist pierces changed in D2R.
      In D2R, CM *seems* to just work the same way that conviction/lower res do. It's 1/5th as effective against monsters that are immune, *even if* their immunity is broken by the other. E.G. if conviction breaks a monster's immunity, and you cast lower res on it, lower res is still operating at 1/5th effectiveness.
      IF this is how CM is working, AND IF all resistance piercing effects work the same way, as MrLlama speculated in the video, this should be noticeable to D2R players. Geared lightning builds would be noticeably weaker, because stuff like facets, griffin's, etc. would only be working at 1/5th their effectiveness against broken immunities, whereas in D2L they worked at 100% effectiveness.

      @@sleek462 Well that depends. I don't know if anyone figured out already how the formula of it works. I don't think it is as simple as the tooltip says (for example lvl 25 Cold mastery: -145% cold resist). It works probably in the same way as the auras so it's 1/5th or whatever on immunes. So you will never get to 0 cold res, you will just make most of the monsters not immune, but still highly resistant. And you will not break immunities of the unique monsters with cold enxchanted affixes. Sooo... someone will have do some calculations of how much point is worth putting into it or if it's still better to just skip or run split cold/fire.

    The best way for Sorceress to survive Hell is to have 2 different elements for killing monster.
    My Sorceress is a Frozen Orb + Fire Wall build.
    If a monster that are both immune to fire and cold, just cast static field to reduce monster life to 50% then my mercs will kill it.

    I hate leaving a single enemy alive, that's why I always Build my character (and mercenary) with at least 3 damage types since there are so many elites with 2-3 immunities.
    If you combine this with poison dmg or "enemy don't regain HPs", you are usually good to go.
    My Summon Druid has poison charms and Fire mercenary, my Sorceress is Chain Lightning + Hydra and has physical mercenary, my Cold Paladin has high DEX (for physical dmg) and Fire Rogue, My Enchantress sorceress has Holy Freeze mercenary and hagh DEX for physical dmg, my physical Bowazon has lvl 20 Magic Arrow,...

    Everyone is saying cold mastery breaking immunity is a bug, but based on this, with most cold immunes having unbreakable resistances, it seems like the game was balanced to account for cold mastery working as it is now. For everyone complaining, take a fresh blizzard sorc into hell and try and complete the den of evil without top tier gear. Technically possible, but good luck with corpsefire.

    Wish I could make Tesladin work in Hell. Ended up respec to hammers without realizing the immunities were borderline, but you’d still need an infinity or lower resist wand if using holy shock.
